Head of the class…Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy – he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle. Then…Callie Carpenter … beagle.
Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.
Back to school…
Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances – that she’d prefer to never speak of again – have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.
Just like old times…
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled – hard – by love.

One of the best book from Emma Chase so far.
I loved all of her novels, but this one has something more, maybe the sweetness, the heart, or the fact that the main characters know each other from the start and love each other for all life, or maybe it’s just that I needed this book at this moment.
Second chance books are my favourite, and this one was perfection.
Can’t wait to dive in the next in the series!
Fun book. Enjoyed the writing and characters. Author makes this book FUN
Getting schooled was a GREAT book, Great story and just an amazing all around second chance at love kind of book. This is the second book I have read from Emma Chase, the first being Tangled, and I have to say this was way better than Tangled.
The book starts off slow with setting up the character’s storyline but once you have that cover the book just goes from this calm every body loves their life to a what the hell I didn’t see that happening. The moment you read why Callie had to return back to her home town in Jersey you are dying laughing, this book is so cute, from the moment Callie and Garrett run into each other you are rooting for them to work through their past and just have a happy ending.
Callie and Garrett’s characters are so well written, their story is so beautiful, and since I am a sucker for second chance romance I was eating up every last word in this book. What I liked most were the stories of their students, the bond that both Garrett and Callie had with their students was something that made you nostalgic thinking about the teachers who went above and beyond to make sure you succeeded not only in class but in life.
Of course Emma wrote some sexy steamy sex scenes that were tastefully written for people who are truly in love with each other. I really enjoyed how Garrett and Callie reconnected not only as friends but as lovers. You see that true love never dies and when you are meant to be with someone nothing can stop it from happening, not time or distance.
Another thing I loved was not 1 epilogue but 3!!! I love a happy ever after but I really love reading what happens after the ever after.
I would definitely recommend this book to all my fellow hopeless romantics.

I thoroughly enjoyed Getting Schooled. Two school teachers. A second chance romance. A nosy principal. And countless students with opinions and attitudes. Add in drama students and a bunch of football players and you’ve got a funny, sweet, real-life romance.
What a wonderfully smart, sexy and funny read. I highly recommend it.

Fun, lighthearted, sweet and sexy with a touch of angst second chance romance. They were high school sweethearts. Then life happens & they went their separate ways. Sixteen years later, something happens that brings Callie back to her home town where Garrett still lives. She takes a job as he drama teacher at her old high school. Garrett was once the golden boy, the star quarterback. He’s still the golden boy but now he is the high school coach at that very same school, and everyone loves him.
I loved the chemistry between the main characters. Their witty banter was entertaining and funny. They click back into each others lives easily as if no time has passed. This time around they are friends. Can they remain friends, or will they be able to resist the chemistry they’ve always had? Life isn’t as easy or as simple as it once was. Can they overcome these obstacles to try and make it work this time around?
Emma Chase did a wonderful job of writing this sweet, lighthearted, sometimes teary but fun & totally swoon-worthy romance. The characters will capture your heart and give you the HEA you’re looking for. This one is a winner ladies! I highly recommend reading it!
Ever since I learned that this story was being releases as an audible exclusive back in February I have wanted to get my hands on it, but of course I am someone who prefers to read rather than listen, so I have been patiently (okay maybe not so patiently) waiting and waiting…and now the time has finally come! Let me just say that it was certainly worth the wait!
Getting Schooled by Emma Chase is a sweet and steamy second chance romance filled with a load of laughs! Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways after graduation. When Callie returns to town due to unexpected circumstances their spark reunites and old feelings resurface. Suddenly, it feels as though they are back in high school and their 18 years old all over again. As their love begins to blossom once again they’ve got to reevaluate why it ended and decide if they can make it work this time.
This story was a great read and I loved every second of it! I strongly recommend one-clicking yourself a copy today so that you can discover the story of Garrett and Callie!
Like Garrett and Callie, my reunion with Getting Schooled by Emma Chase was sweeter the second time around. I listened to the audiobook a few months ago and loved it, so it’s not really a surprise that I loved the book just as much. It’s smart, witty, addictive, and full of wonderful characters, humor, emotion, and depth.
An incident brings Callie Carpenter back to her hometown, and back to her high school sweetheart’s path. While in town, she takes a temporary job at her old high school where Garrett Daniels, golden boy and former star athlete of their school, is now the football coach of the team. They finally get their second chance more than a decade later at the very same place where it all began.
It was such a joy to read this book! Second chance romances, when done right, make my heart go a-flutter. This one definitely did. I liked that the angst wasn’t too heavy (don’t get me wrong, it had its moments) and I love love loved the maturity between Callie and Garrett. They know what they want, how they feel, and they’re not afraid to talk about it. No unnecessary drama here, thank you very much. As amicable a break up can be, there can be lingering hurts waiting to surface, and honestly, that’s what I enjoy the most in stories like this.
These two are perfect for each other, and I believed every second of reading this that they were meant to be. It was in the way they interacted with each other—like a decade of being apart didn’t pass at all—looked at each other, and leaned on each other. Cue lovesick sighing.
This story does not just highlight the beauty of second chances, but the colorful life of being a teacher, mentor, and guardian as well. It was interesting to see their train of thought, the efforts they did to reach their students, their frustrations and hurt, and the joy of seeing their students grow and learn. It added so much to the story without stealing the spotlight from the romance.
I can’t recommend this story enough! Getting Schooled has characters you’ll fall in love with, great chemistry and banter, equal shares of sweet, funny, steamy and tear-jerking moments, and a romance that will warm your heart.

Getting Schooled by Emma Chase
I always have high expectations of Emma Chase: her books are always filled with warmth, humor, and great characters. Getting Schooled was no exception and I enjoyed this second-chance romance so very much.
This isn’t your somewhat typical second-chance romance though. Garrett and Callie didn’t break up in anger. They didn’t have a huge fight and call things off. There wasn’t even another party involved in the demise of their relationship. Instead, they’d made a wise yet heartbreaking decision to call things off when they went to different colleges. Callie rarely returned home for visits, going on to eventually obtain a much-worked for position as Executive Producer of the Fountain Theater Company while Garrett stayed home to become a high-school history teacher and the football coach.
When hilarious circumstances force Callie to return home and look after her parents, she takes up a temporary position -at the same high school as Garrett- as the new theater teacher. Watching these two reconnect was so nice. Things weren’t overly rushed but the feelings they had for each other had never really died so that meant that they didn’t have to work past anger and hurt which was great. The book wasn’t riddled with angst so that was a plus in my opinion. Overall, I thought it was great book that had me smiling and swooning throughout.
*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Emma Chase has taken us to offices, to courts, to palaces… And now, she takes us back to school.
Garrett Daniels and Callie Anderson were the perfect high school couple. The one you dreamed about having as you walked on your school hallways. But things happened and they just had to give up what they thought was their “forever”. Getting Schooled is a really cute take on the “second chance” romance we all love. Knowing Emma, I was ready for all the hilarity this book has, but what I wasn’t ready for was how some of the chapters speak to its readers’ heart
This wordsmith didn’t jus write about romantic love. She wrote about the side of the teachers’ lives that we usually don’t see: their genuine care for their students, their silent laugh for their stupidity, and most of all, how they want to see them soar. This, this here is another kind of love that will surely touch your heart.
Emma Chase has always been the best in “delivering feel-good, super funny but never short of scorching heat” kind of romance. If you’re looking for something that can help you shoo your stress away, grab this book and good meet the Lakeside gang!
Getting Schooled by Emma Chase hits everything I love about second chance romances, and yet made it light and fun with a dash of sexy. It is entirely captivating.
I love Garrett, probably because his personality is so close to my husband (who is also ex quarterback & current coach). The inappropriate and often cocky comments had me laughing. The dirty talk and fun is on point. I absolutely love every single thing about this man, from the way he loves his students to the way he loves Callie. He is book boyfriend material.
Callie is the newbie teacher, and I love seeing the profession through her eyes. I got to relive my first teaching experiences and see the joy and the hardships of the profession. I adore her.
Emma Chase bailed the teaching profession, the challenges and the rewards, and she is incredibly accurate when it comes to how she depicts teens and the struggles they face. I was just as engaged with this aspect of the novel as I was with the romance between Garrett and Callie.
The pacing of Getting Schooled is just as fabulous as everything else. We got to see these two reconnect and grow back together, but we also felt the chemistry that buzzed between them. The conflict wasn’t exactly what is expecting, and I love when I get a bit of a surprise. The Who journey felt ache tic and real. Plus, those epilogues are just too much! I wanted them to keep on coming for all the joy they brought me.
Emma Chase has created another cast of characters I love, and shown the light in a profession that is hard work and challenging. Every character and moment is pure romantic joy. I never wanted it to end
5 ‘Mr & Mrs Coach D’ Stars!

I am a sucker for second chance romances. I am sucker of funny and sexy love stories. I am a sucker for a great list of characters. And I definitely am a sucker for all things Emma Chase. Her Royally series is one of my absolute favorites and I knew she would not disappoint with whatever was coming next. Getting Schooled was EVERYTHING. Yes, this is how to write a gripping second chance love story, people. Emma continues to surprise me and she did a fantastic job with this one.
So, Getting Schooled is Emma’s newest release and it belongs to the brand new Getting Some series. This one is a second chance love story between two people who loved each other deeply when they were young, but circumstances separated them. Garrett Daniels is the teacher everybody loves. He is a former star quarterback, a history teacher and the beloved football coach. Garrett loves his life the way it is. However, what happens when his high school sweetheart comes back? Callie Carpenter took off to built a career but now she is back in her hometown for a while. She is the new theatre teacher and all her senses tingle when she is near Garrett. Their connection is unstoppable, their past and their relationship left a huge mark on both of them. With all that chemistry, is it now the time to give it a second go? Oh yes!
She was the love of my life, before I had any fucking idea what love was… and then, still, even after I did.
I loved every word on this book. Every freaking second of reading this love story. The couple is wonderful, their relationship adorable and oh-so-sexy, the group of secondary characters amazing (including that super cute dog called Snoopy!), the chemistry mind-blowing and the emotions all over the place! Can’t you tell how much I loved this? Emma Chase has such a unique touch with everything she writes and the characters she creates. I find them so charismatic, funny, with lots of layers and just outstanding. I loved Garrett and Callie. Their story melted my heart. Garrett is so swoony, funny and romantic and Callie is sassy, full of life and love for the people around her. It’s impossible not to love these two!
“You were always my girl, Callie, even after you weren’t anymore. Do you know what I mean?”
I nod. “Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.”
There’s no awkwardness, or hesitation. We’ve been here before. Our lips, our hands, and our hearts remember.
Of course, it’s impossible not to love them. Not only because how they are as individuals but because how they are as a team and as a couple. I loved their interactions with the whole school (teachers, students..), their moments with their friends and families and, obviously, all the amazing and super-hot scenes between them. Holy moly, that is some chemistry, that is for sure! Your Kindles will burn with the sexual tension between these two and you’ll love to see how they fall in love all over again. It’s so clear that Garrett and Callie belong together and I am so glad they found their happy ending. And what an epic ending!
They say you can’t go home again… but they’re wrong.
I did.
I came home and found the love I never really lost.
Therefore, my rating for Getting Schooled is 5 STARS because I loved everything about it. Emma Chase continues to pleasantly surprise me everytime. Oh yeah, she did a fantastic job with this one. I adored Garrett and Callie, their past and their present and the amazing chemistry they have from the very beginning. I also love a good list of secondary characters and now that we know this is becoming a series, I can’t wait to read the next story! Congrats to Emma Chase for another swoony, adorable and sexy love story. Highly recommend!
Highschool sweethearts Garrett Daniels and Callie Carpenter went their separate ways 16 years ago when they ended up at colleges on opposite ends of the country. Since then, Callie’s gotten her dream job as executive director of the Fountain Theater Company in San Diego and Garrett is the epitome of cool in his hometown as the former star quarterback turned coach and a favorite teacher at the highschool. Both are successful and happy living their lives until fate brings Callie back to their small town and changes everything between them making them both feel 16 again.
Callie’s only supposed to be back for a year, yet she and Garrett are drawn to one another like moths to a flame. They are supposed to be friends as Garrett helps Callie figure out how to survive as a yearlong substitute teacher, but their relationship quickly bursts back into flames pulling them back to their youth . . . but with all the experience that adulthood brings. How will they ever go their separate ways again now that they both remember what they are missing?
Getting Schooled was my first Emma Chase book and I was enchanted! First, as a former teacher, I totally identified with every character in this book from the teachers, to the highschool students and even the tough as nails school principal. Emma’s humor with life in a highschool from both adult and kid perspective was spot on and laugh out loud funny throughout the entire book. It made me want to be back in the classroom again!
Callie and Garrett’s love is sweet as can be while also being super hot and sexy. Their relationship started in highschool and gets a fantastic second chance at the same school 16 years later. Watching them flirt and dance around one another was really fun . . . especially when the students pick up on things and the principal catches them making out in the janitor’s closet!
The interactions with their students is what really makes this book special, however. The life lessons (often from 80s movies) Garrett shares with his team and students and Callie’s perseverance in winning over her class is endearing. While not the main focus, these highschool characters add so much depth and humor to this book that you’ll be remembering your own days back in school. 5 stars for this second chance romance!
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
Garrett and Callie are high school sweethearts – it’s been ten years since they were together though. Thanks to Callie’s crazy parents they are reunited when Callie returns back home to teach for a year while helping her parents recuperate from broken legs.
Callie was just promoted to her dream job – Executive Director of a theater in San Diego, California. Who would have thought, low and behold, a leave of absence would change her life. Teaching was definitely not something she thought she’d ever do – to high school students in a classroom anyway.
Garrett is the sweetest guy. I loved his character. He’s the perfect fictional guy. Of course he has a few flaws but for the most part Garrett is *the guy.* It’s easy to see why he has women falling at his feet though Callie is the only woman he’s ever loved and wanted.
The lessons these two learn in this book are pretty true to life lessons. Stuff happens it’s how you react and get over the issues that can set yourself apart. Garrett and Callie definitely show their strengths in this book. I think you will enjoy this great book from Emma Chase!
“You were always my girl, Callie. Even after you weren’t any more.”
And Emma Chase does it again. There isn’t an Emma Chase book I’ve read that I haven’t loved.
“Getting Schooled” is a beautiful second chance romance that made me laugh and swoon and even cry a little bit. Garrett Daniels and Callie Carpenter were high school sweethearts, the forever kind of high school sweethearts. But when it came time for college, Garrett stayed in New Jersey and Callie moved to California and pretty much never looked back. Now, more than a decade later, Garrett is loving his life in their small hometown. He’s everyone’s favorite history teacher and coaches a fantastic football team. He’s perfectly content with his house and his dog and his bachelor lifestyle. Until a family emergency brings Callie back to New Jersey and straight back into his life.
Callie wasn’t ever expecting to move back home, even temporarily. But when an accident leaves both of her parents with a broken leg apiece, Callie finds herself her alma mater’s new drama teacher during the day and her parents’ nurse at night for the next year. She’s used to working with adults at her theater company in California and these teenagers are NOTHING like what she’s used to. So Garrett offers to help her out with some lessons on being a teacher. And if he plans on trying to get her back too, well, she’s not entirely opposed to that.
I think my absolute favorite thing about “Getting Schooled” was that Garrett and Callie didn’t hate each other at the start. So often with second chance romances, the main characters had some sort of massive falling out or disastrous breakup and they have to get over their history to fall for each other again. But instead Chase took a standard trope and gave it a refreshing spin. Callie and Garrett instantly dove right back into friendship which eventually led to diving back into their relationship. I loved that instead of focusing so much on forgiveness, this gave us an opportunity to watch their relationship grow into the more grown up version of what they had as kids. I found it super sweet and heartwarming.
And oh how I loved both Callie and Garrett. Their chemistry was spot on, and I loved them as friends, and then also as a couple. They both had their faults, but they were also fun and charming and just a joy to read. And as always, Chase does not disappoint with her spectacular ability to write a male POV.
I adored that so much of the story took place at the high school. It made for a spectacular cast of secondary characters, both in the other teachers and with a wide variety of interestingly written students. Having so many important secondary characters meant that more of the conflict and drama could be about Callie and Garrett’s world rather than just their relationship, which helped keep me engaged and unable to put the book down.
This book perfectly encapsulated everything I love about Emma Chase and I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.
Getting Schooled by Emma Chase is a fun, small town high school based, romance. Garrett Daniels is the kind of guy who has always been the best. High on life and successful, when one door closes another opens and he has gone from star football player to stay football coach and teacher. Callie Carpenter was his other half in high school until college distance broke them apart. Callie is fresh of a great promotion when she is called back home to help her parents for a few months. The opportunity to teach drama at her old high school gives her a way to make some money to pay bills in the interim.
Once Garrett and Callie are near each other again the fuse is lit, and it’s a short one. The tone of this book is fun and sexy. Its a blend of the crazy of going back to high school as an adult and pulling back the curtain on the crazy lives the teachers have that the students never know about. Garrett and Callie are fun characters and only get more so together and they are the kind of sweethearts that second chance romances are for.
Overall Getting Schooled by Emma Chase was a fun, crazy, and passion filled book. The tone and the environment made it a blend of high school antics, of the adult variety, and sweet romance.
(I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
Very funny and no drama sweet sort of second chance romance. Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts that ended on a good note. They hadn’t seen each other in years until Callie returns to take care of her very funny and enjoying life parents.
When Garrett saw Callie at the school where he teaches and where she was going to teach for the year he made it his mission to pick up from where they left off and she was on board. These two were freaking cute together and had very sexy moments. It’s like time had never passed with these two and it was refreshing to read such a warm book.
The secondary characters had me laughing out loud and when you read the cause of Callie’s parents accident I was literally in tears. I really enjoyed this book and it’s three epilogues, lol. I can’t wait to see which couple is next.
I think second chance romances might be my fave and among them, Emma Chase’s Getting Schooled is one of my favorites. I’m particularly partial to ones featuring high school sweethearts and/or first loves. I listened to the audio of this when it was released a couple months ago – it was my first book by the author and I was bowled over by how much I loved her storytelling. I’ve been slowly adding her books to my library, including preordering Getting Schooled. I loved the story so much it even changed how I felt about Ed Sheeran’s Perfect (I didn’t care for it initially but within the context of this book, I learned to love it). Garrett and Callie’s story was absolutely swoon-worthy and sexy and full of engaging characters. Callie’s parents were HILARIOUS and I really appreciated the role that both Callie and Garrett played as teachers to their students. I can’t wait to read more from this author and I’m so happy that this is just the first book in a series! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.
I haven’t pulled an all nighter to read a book in awhile, but this book was impossible to put down! Page-turner til the very end. Seriously cute, summer read. It had me cracking up at the bits of humor in there. The teachers bickering back and forth, that scene cracked me up… and had me thinking, does all that really happen? Sounds… entertaining! Haha!
Garrett and Callie have this easy going relationship. I love that even after so many years, they still come together and it’s like nothing’s changed…well aside from the fact that they’ve gotten better at certain activities as they’ve aged! *wink wink* There were some pretty scorching scenes, and you could feel the passion between the two lovebirds, flying off the pages.
For me, this book had it all. The passion, the sarcasm, the heart, the tiny bit of heartbreak that had me tearing up, the growth, it was an all out whirlwind of emotions for me… in a good way. You get to experience all these feelings alongside Callie and Garrett and I think one of my favorite parts was when Callie finally realizes what she wants. It takes her a few minutes with Ollie to come to the realization, but I was so happy with the ending. It was sappy, adorable and totally perfect. The way this author writes, it’s so easy to get swept into the story and feel it. She even had me liking those a-hole teenagers after awhile and it’s “cool” that we get to see their growth. Loving this author and can’t wait to read more of her work!

Sadly, I haven’t read a whole lot of Emma Chase books, but they’re all sitting pretty on kindle. Once I heard she had a new series coming out, I wanted to get my grabby hands on Getting Schooled. I tend not to read many teacher romances because they’re usually a student/teacher romance, but I was pleasantly surprised when I read that it was more of a second chance. With that being my favorite trope, I was even more on board than before! Their story warmed my heart a lot more than I expected it to and it has been easily added to my #RSFaves list for 2018! But we shouldn’t be surprised, with the whatever Emma Chase writes, it’s flawless and a story that we’ll always remember.
High school is brutal and definitely not my favorite time while growing up. And reading this made me realize how different high school is now, it seems like it has just gotten worse. But we all have those memorable teachers that stick with us past graduation, I know that I have a couple. And Garrett and Callie are just those teachers their students will absolutely love and remember. They keep things fun and real, but constantly sharing life lessons with their students, which I hope so hard stick with them as they grow up into their adulthood.
I absolutely adored watching Garrett and Callie smoothly transition into being together again. It was evident that their love for one another has surpassed all the time they were apart, but they definitely have some secrets to work through before they can truly give this shot. And hopefully being together forever.
Another thing that worked so well with this book was the hilarious and witty banter. Is this truly how teachers are because I’m all for it, so dang funny! Even though it’s low-angst, Emma is still able to pull the emotions out of us right where you least expect it.
Getting Schooled was such a heartwarming story that I’ll definitely be re-reading over and over again. There were so many things to enjoy and lessons to be learned! An amazing second chance romance with the best male POV that I’ve read in a very long time!
