Head of the class…Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy – he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle. Then…Callie Carpenter … beagle.
Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.
Back to school…
Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances – that she’d prefer to never speak of again – have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.
Just like old times…
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled – hard – by love.

I loved everything about this book… EVERYTHING! The story, the characters, the narrators, the humor, the steamy scenes, the secondary characters, etc., etc. So many happy moments, so many feels, I didn’t want to stop listening to this. SO GOOD!
Definitely one of my top audiobooks of 2018!
Emma Chase has been on my TBR FOREVER but for whatever reason, I never got around to the books. I heard that Getting Schooled was too good to put off so I dove in.
This book is HILARIOUS!!!! I loved everything about the characters and the town and the school. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this new series!!
Coach D is a dreamboat. He’s also a player…I don’t just mean football. He is adorable and cute but don’t tell him I said so. With his Clark Kent wingman, I can’t believe that these two haven’t slayed all the available honeys in town. (That’s the extent of my trying to be a cool kid for this review!)
She is the one who got away. THE ONE. Callie was his everything. First of many things but most importantly his everything. Things happened and now they are back in the same town. Same feelings and same looks…
Its hard not to pick up where their hearts left off.
To say it’s easy would be a lie. To say this feel good “perfect” relationship isn’t going to make you jealous, would also be a lie. The fears, feels, and “friction” will have you enjoying every minute of this story. And if that isnt enough between Callie’s parents and the highschoolers, there will be plenty of laughs.
“Accidents” happen, even in Lakeside.
P.S. The Jersey girl in me loves how awesome, homey, and legit Jersey this book feels.
This is a sweet story about a second chance romance. When Callie Carpenter has to return to her hometown to help care for her parents the last thing she expects is to rekindle her relationship with her HS sweetheart, Garrett Daniels, but when she takes a temporary job at the school he’ll be her best chance to learn to navigate this new venture.
This book was sexy, fun and easy to read, but I felt the story was somewhat overshadowed by the physical relationship of the characters. I still managed to find it enjoyable and will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
What can I say? I absolutely loved this book. Fantastic narration combined with a wonderfully written story. Emma Chase has done it again!
This book was fabulous and funny. I enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot wait for more from this series
What an incredible second chance love story! Fun, romantic & full of heart, this wonderful story had me experiencing the full range of emotions from laughing out loud to ugly crying.
In the audiobook, Zachary Webber & Andi Arndt did a spectacular job bringing these witty & flawed characters to life. Highly recommend this book!!
I really loved listening to this on Audiobook! Andi Arnt and Zachary Webber did an amazing job bringing Garrett and Callie to life.
This was a true second chance romance if I’ve ever read one.
Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts and thought they would always stay together. Then life happened and things started to pull them apart. Callie moved to California to pursue her theater dreams and Garrett ended back in their hometown after his football career ended. When Callie’s parents are injured in a minor, hilarious, accident, Callie has to come back home. This puts her back in Garrett’s sight and they rekindle their romance.
Garrett is now the high school football coach and a teacher at their old high school… and boy does coaching do a body good! He is all for having a second chance at having a relationship with Callie for as long as she will allow or until she goes back to California. Callie comes back as the theater teacher for the year and falls in love with her students and teaching. This leaves her with a dilemma on what to do once her parents are healed up.
This story really made walking through the halls of high school fun and enjoyable.
Frankly, I’m amazed by how much I’ve enjoyed every single Emma Chase book I’ve read—and by now I believe I’ve gone through her entire body of work. The winning streak continues with Getting Schooled. I brought this book with me on vacation, and I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect beach read. It’s pure hilarity and romance, without an ounce of silly conflicts to spoil the good times.
Callie and Garrett finally get a second chance at love decades after being high school sweethearts. This time around, they’re teachers at their alma matter. It’s a tender, funny, and sweet reunion. I love their familiarity and chemistry.
The story is told from dual points of view. While I enjoyed Callie’s perspective immensely, it is Garrett’s take on his everyday life that steals the show. I especially loved his observations about high school students and their frequently ridiculous behavior.
I found the story to be laugh-out-loud, tears-rolling-down-my-face funny. The teachers’ staff meeting scene is epic. I must have re-read it four times and laughed just as hard each time.
From Callie’s randy hippie parents to the school principal who loves to hate everyone, the book is overflowing with characters that will tickle your funny bone. This story is guaranteed to bring joy to your heart.
Getting Schooled is book one in a new series, and I’m so glad because I need more! I’d love to see Garrett’s divorced brother, Connor, get his own story. Single father stories are my Kryptonite! It would also be fun to see Jake’s best friend and assistant coach, Dean, find love. Whoever is next, I’ll be ready and waiting with open arms.
Quick, easy read that held my attention from first page until last. Have never read an Emma Chase that I did not like.
Getting Schooled is Emma Chase’s new epic second chance love story. I have read all of Emma’s books and I have to say this is my favorite! I realize that is a bold statement, but it’s true. It’s hard to articulate how I feel about this book without just saying “I love it so much.”Emma is just one of those writers who makes you feel so much with her words. She brings up memories, thoughts, feelings, desires. I can smell the trees. Hear the crowds. See the faces. Getting Schooled gave me all the feels. ALL! I laughed out loud, cried big fat tears, had to fan myself, cringed, smiled, and laughed more. These characters were everything! Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts who were truly in love. It was real, all-encompassing love. They didn’t fall out of love, they just wanted to follow their dreams. That took Callie to California and Garrett stayed close to home. When Callie needs to come home to help her parents, the minute she sees Garrett the sparks are flying. Callie takes a teaching job at the high school…with Garrett. She’s not prepared for the students to be, well…total jerks. She needs help and Garrett is just the man for the job. Along the way, Callie starts to care about her students and what’s she’s doing with her classes. And she starts to care about Garrett. More and more every day. They realize they never stopped loving each other. It was always them. But Callie is only there temporarily. What happens if they fall in love again only to have her leave? Would it be worth it? Garrett wants to go all in. He didn’t realize he was waiting for Callie to come home. He needs her in his life. Callie won’t let go of Garrett again. Will her life take her back across the country or will she realize she was always meant to come home. To this town. To this man. I loved every damn second of this book. It wasn’t only the rekindling of love between Garrett and Callie. It was the other teachers. The kids. Their families. It’s the start of a new series and I already love this town and the people in it so much. As a New York, Italian, I loved it even more. Give me my Bill Joel, the Jersey Shore and these crazy people! Coach D and Callie stole my heart. Bring on Dean!
First, the narrators are amazing. I’ve heard Andi Arndt narrate before so I knew what to expect. Zachary Webber was new to me but he was amazing. He had an astounding ability to really get the emotion across; I really really loved when he added a little laugh in some places or feigned shouting from farther away to his students. He really told the story beautifully and I felt his emotion. Having both Andi Arndt and Zacharty together- just perfect. Like a movie.
The story is also wonderful- a second chance romance where youth and circumstances drove the two apart. Callie moved to San Diego, Garrett stayed in NJ and became a HS history teacher/ football coach. Callie comes back to take care of her parents after a car accident and ends up teaching drama at the same HS as Garrett. Very low angst story, which is perfect for this story- I love it when an author doesn’t feel the need to introduce issues where there doesn’t need to be but to just showcase the beauty of a growing love.
One of my new favorite book plus narration combination.
4.5 Stars
I read this one a while back and loved it. It’s still one of my goto’s when I’m in a reading slump. Getting Schooled is something special. Maybe it’s the banter? Maybe it’s the small town charm? Maybe it’s the heart and soul Chase poured into these characters? I’d say it’s all of the above.
Garrett and Callie are amazing together. Their chemistry—straight fire and I rooted for their second chance. You will laugh, you’ll feel sadness, but most of all happiness with their amazing HEA. Such a great read.
I loved this book! I’m way into teacher romances (where the teachers fall for other adults, not students). I sure hope this series will continue to grow. These characters are great and the audio is stellar.
I really enjoyed this small town/second chance romance.
It was funny, sweet and sexy with a very all consuming romance between Garrett and Callie.
I couldn’t put it down.
Loved it and I am eager to read book 2.
5 Stars.
4.5**
I’ll definitely buy another Emma Chase book!
A fun small-town romance with loveable characters.
Amazingly adorable small town, second chance romance! High School sweethearts are our seal in the coffin!
Garrett, oh Garrett so much to say about this character. I loved him so much. He almost immediately went onto my favorite book boyfriend list way before I even finished the book. This book made me laugh and cry. I fell in love with all the characters from the students, to Dean, to Garrett’s family and Callie’s too. Emma Chase built such a rea feeling world. Very excited to move onto Dean’s story. I already started it and it seems to be just as good so far.
