It was a one-night stand five years ago. As much as I hated myself for thinking about Emelia, I couldn’t help it. But she left town and life went on. I married someone else and started living. I thought we were both happy. I was wrong. My ex-wife walked out on me and our son, not wanting domestic anything. So I did the only thing I could. I started over. A single dad with my focus on my boy and …
I started over.
A single dad with my focus on my boy and my job teaching kiddos.
Until Emelia came back to town and got a job teaching at my school.
Then everything changed.
All those memories came rushing back in.
What we were supposed to be if that one night had turned into more.
Beautiful. Clever. Funny. With a body made for loving and a heart of gold.
I didn’t know what had been missing from my life until I kissed her again.
Her.
But she has a secret from our night together that threatens to change everything.
Seems I don’t have just one son.
I have two.

Getting Schooled
5 stars
I received a free copy of the full-length novel Getting Schooled by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
A steamy and ironic well-balanced story of fate, coincidence, and a second chance at love. This is an emotional story containing realistic characters, a secret unplanned pregnancy, the brokenness resulting when a parent leaves, scenes from the high school, and a steamy romance with a happy ending. Annapolis high school teacher and single dad Jace reunites with the woman from a steamy one-night stand, the new history teacher, single mom Emelia who just happens to be his best friends’ wife’s best friend.
Cute story.
Great book again by Ali.
Loved the characters. Loved the storyline between Em and Jace. I was so happy that she went back to Annapolis for her job and that Jace got to meet his Son. Wonderful to see them all come together as a whole a d happy family.
Adored Paxton and Linden.
Ms. Ali Parker Is a pure genius and I couldn’t recommend reading her latest release, Getting Schooled, more. This incredibly crafted storyline broke my heart and mended it together again seamlessly.
School Teacher, Jace, is also a single Father to the adorable Paxton, his Son, and his pride and joy. After his Wife walked away from them both, Jace didn’t really think he’d find love again. However, when he is reunited with a beautiful woman from his past, Emelia, everything just makes sense again. Emelia is a School Teacher as well as a single Mother to Linden. Starting over in a new place is always hard, yet seeing Jace again makes her heart even more full. Chemistry is so thick between these two, however, secrets are threatening everything that they could have. Will he ever forgive her? Or has she finally broken him? My goodness, this is a book you need to read. Superb.
I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader’s copy of Getting Schooled in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion.
This storyline is filled with so much emotional turmoil and keeps you riveted throughout.
Emelia and Jace hooked up 6 years ago at the wedding of their best friends! But they lived so far apart it was a one time thing neither forgot. Now they are living in the same town and teaching in the same school. Both are single so what’s to stop them from reigniting that spark? Everyone has secrets, right? Loved this book! A definite must read!!!
Now as most of you know all writes some of the best romance books out there and this one takes the cake. It was so sweet yet maddening but the end result was what we were aiming for. Emilia and Jace have this history and it sparks again when they reunite. But that burning secret is what gets them. But all in all it was so worth the read and I hope that we see more in the way of this setting. Keep them coming. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.
This is now my favourite Ali Parker book. I loved the storyline and the six main characters [Jace, Emelia, Pax, Linden, Mary and John] are all wonderful people that, in real life, I’m sure most of us would like to call friends. Emelia and Jace meet at their best friends, Mary and John’s wedding and really hit it off as they say. Jace is a high school English teacher and Emelia is a teacher to be in training and is encouraged by Jace. They spend one very passionate night together then she returns home many states away and gets on with her life. As does Jace whom she encounters nearly six years later when she has just secured a full time teaching job at the same high school where he and John both teach. Needless to say, there are some very interesting developments that I am not going to divulge here as spoilers. This is just so well written and the people were just so 3-dimensional and ‘real’ as Ali is just such a fantastic writer. Secrets are kept until they cannot be kept any longer, but what will the fall out be? Be fully prepared to fall in love with Paxton and Linden as they are just so very cute and Pax may break your heart as his’thoughts’ are revealed. I think Emelia is the type of woman we’d all like as our best friend as she will speak up for those she loves and do all that she can to make a little boy’s heart be whole again.I received a reader’s copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!!! Simply wonderful. P.S. have your fans/air con at the ready as there are some hot and heavy scenes!
They had a one night stand.
Emelia got pregnant and left.
He moved on and had another child.
Now, they’re teaching at the same school.
Another great read from Ali Parker. This proves second chances do happen even of its years later. Emelia and Jace are such a great couple. The way their story unfolds keeps you interested the whole way through
This was an enjoyable read. Emelia and Jace hooked up one night at a wedding. Six years later she moves to town with her son. Jace already has a child but Emelia has one too. The problem is that her son is Jace’s but he doesn’t know it. Of course there is some drama but in the end it all works out.
I found the plot of this book was a tad slow at the beginning
but was it took off it really grab my attention and kept it.
Strong plot and well developed characters .
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This has wonderful characters, an amazing storyline and was well written. These characters go through emotions, mistakes, secrets and so much more. They met at their best friends wedding, a hot steaming night and several years later they are in the same state. Both are single parents putting their boys first. Emelia moved from Atlanta to Annapolis, Washington with her son. She is the new history teacher at the high school and is nervous about moving so far from her parents. Jace is the English teacher at the high school and the students and faculty adore him. He is raising his son Paxton and trying to maneuver since his ex-wife Gwen left them. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
An awesome read
I highly recommend this book. Great characters. Great plot. Couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed it.
As a mother, I could relate to the struggles of parents. Although I’m not a single mom, I imagine it must be a lot harder for single parents. Jace and Emelia have their own issues. Jace and his son was left by his ex wife. Emelia was a single mom and has a secret about his son. But fate brought them together after a long time has passed after a one chance encounter.

This is a beautiful second chance romance between Jace and Emilia, single parents who once had a one night stand which produced a secret she never revealed to anyone. Six years later the chemistry and passion is still there .. so is the secret. It’s a well written book with detailed scenes , moves quickly and smoothly and had me hooked from start to finish reading. I loved and highly recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I enjoyed Emelia and Jace’s second chance story. It’s nicely developed and well written. Both are single parents but one harbors a secret. Overall, a good solid story that is interesting and captivating.
I love the characters. So in love in such a short time. They met six years ago at a wedding and had a one night stand. Now they’re teaching at the same school. Is the attraction still there? You betcha! Is it something they should’ve pursued six years ago or is it worth pursuing now? Absolutely. At times your heart will break and you will think there’s no way for a happy ending. Can Amelia and Jace forgive each other or is it too late? Heartbreakingly romantic. Captivating personalities of the characters. You can’t help but just love them. Wonderful love story. Just love a true gentleman.
This is a beautifully written second chance romance. The characters are awesome and so well developed. It’s easy to fall in love with this book!
Wickedly awesome story of two soulmates. Em and Jace both sexy hot singles meet at the wedding of their best friends. The couple have a one night stand and go their separate ways. Em gets home to find out she pregnant and chooses to keep it a secret. Jace falls for another women and marries. After the birth of this son His wife leaves and Jace is a single father. Em has a son. Eventually Em graduates from college and secures her first teaching job and it’s here she comes face to face with Jace it’s here the story begins as these two star crossed lovers face the reality of attraction, lies, truth, love, lust and unconditional love. Ali once again takes you on a high as these two learn to live. A five star read that pulls every heartstring.
I was provided an arc for an honest review.
I love this second chance story of Emelia and Jace. The characters were really well written and the chemistry showed. The story line about the boys had me just as hooked. I loved not only the romance in the book, but also the story of forgiveness. I would recommend this heartwarming story to anyone.
Jace and Emelia met at their friend’s wedding and had a wonderful night together. Emelia left and Jace moved on and got married. This marriage was not meant to last and when his wife and his son Paxton is left with him. He focuses on taking care of his son and his teaching job. When Emelia shows up at his school, also a teacher, the sparks reignite. She is wonderful with Paxton and Jace learns she also has a son, Linden. What happens when he discovers that Linden is also his son? Can these two overcome their past and forge a future together as a family? This is a wonderfully developed story that will grab your heartstrings! I received an advanced readers copy of this book and am gladly leaving this review.
