Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.
And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances – that she’d prefer to never speak of again – have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.
Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.
Just like old times…
When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.
Good friends are all they can ever be.
Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled – hard – by love.

A funny and sweet second chance romance that made my heart flutter.
The story is fun and the side characters were great. They added so much to this story for me. I liked Garrett and Callie’s chemistry but several moments were more of “telling” and not “showing” that kinda made those fall flat for me. This is the reason behind my rating.
I enjoy all of Emma’s books and stories. She always delivers stories that make my heart smile. They have everything I need when a lighter book is what I am looking for. This new series is going to be great, I can already tell. I can’t wait to read the next one from Emma.
‘Those that can, do; those what can’t, teach…’
I cannot tell you how many times throughout the course of my 18 years of teaching that I’ve heard this phrase, and each and every time I hear it, I want to trade places with the person who said it and have him/her experience what it’s like to day in and day out be responsible for a classroom full of impressionable teens – ones who are temperamental, arrogant, and immature on any given day – the same students who will potentially go home to an empty house or to one full of siblings that they are responsible for babysitting until bedtime.
Teachers play many roles in the lives of their students, and I love that Emma Chase illustrates that very idea in her latest release, Getting Schooled.
I can tell you unequivocally that if Garrett Daniels taught and coached at my high school, the female population would be crushing on him big time and they would do anything they had to in order to have him as their teacher. Mr. Daniels is definitely a ‘cool’ teacher – one who knows his stuff when it comes to the subject he teaches as well as the sport and players he coaches. He’s a very laid-back teacher but he has the respect of his students, and he teaches them a whole heck of a lot more than history facts and football plays.
I thoroughly enjoyed Garrett’s interactions with his kids and the effect he had on them but also the effect they had on him. There’s an established rapport between them, which proves how invested Garrett is in their lives and how willing he is to help his team and his students in any way he can.
Callie Carpenter’s reappearance in her hometown of Lakeside, New Jersey, is a game changer, not only for her but also for her high school sweetheart who just happens to be Garrett Daniels, and while it seems like Callie and Garrett have great separate lives with careers, friends, and homes, reunited, their chemistry, their attraction, their connection proves just how easy it has always been when they’re together, and all the heat and love that used to surround them has only intensified, which means that the only thing stopping their second chance at love is matters of the head and not the heart.
Both Garrett and Callie are easy-to-love characters; they’re relatable in who they are, how they view their lives, and what they want out of life. The reboot version of their relationship works seamlessly with the plot line of Getting Schooled; as they grow together in their feelings for each other, they teach one another valuable lessons about life and love and as they learn from their own lessons and from their students, Garrett and Callie realize what truly matters in their lives and at the top of that list is one another.
The secondary characters add a great dynamic to Garrett and Callie’s story. Garrett and Callie’s students, Garrett’s players, their friends, and their family give readers further insight into ‘Darpenter’/‘Carret’ and even the hard ass principal illustrates how easy it is to grow as a person, albeit in subdued ways, when it comes to working with kids and being responsible for so much more than just their education.
Getting Schooled is a fantastic second chance romance about two people who were always meant to be together, and while they went their separate ways after high school, they’re now back where they’ve always belonged, which means that Garrett and Callie have a number of years to make up for, and boy do they know just how to do that!!!
I’m already hooked on Emma Chase’s new series, and I can’t wait to see what and who she plans to school her readers on next!
4.5 Poison Apples
Getting Schooled is book 1 in the Getting Some Series and if this book is anything to go by Emma Chase has another hit on her hands. This is an easy to read funny sweet and sexy full of cuteness type of book. Garrett is the hot football coach that also doubles up as a history teacher in his hometown high school, he grew up in this town got educated at the school he now teaches in and he loves his job and his life. Callie was his high school sweetheart she was the one and when she wanted to follow her dream all those years ago he loved her enough to let her go and now she is back in town looking after her parents and teaching drama at his school the problem is will he be able to let her go for a second time….
This book has some very funny laugh out loud moments it’s easy to fall in love with Garrett the man who put the love of his life’s dreams first, the chemistry is sizzling and I loved the interaction with the kids. If you are looking for a book that will leave you smiling like a Cheshire Cat this is the book to read. Looking forward
This! This right here is my kind of read. A story that really makes me feel. Getting Schooled made me laugh (hysterically so!), it made me cry, it filled me up, and left me feeling unbelievably happy. This was perfect to me! 6 stars!
I’ve always loved anything written by Emma Chase because they never fail to leave a huge smile on my face and an entire squad of butterflies fluttering around my stomach the whole time. Getting Schooled is no different at all. It was every bit addicting and magical and just plain fantastic.
“You were always my girl, Callie, even after you weren’t anymore. Do you know what I mean?”
Garrett Daniels (aka Coach D) was dead-on swoon-worthy from head to toe. Every single thing he did, every single word he uttered would either have you trying so hard to hold onto your heart—because trust me, that stupid organ would betray you in a snap of a finger and leap over to Garrett like a sacrificial lamb—or just melt you completely into a puddle of goo. Just like any of Chase’s heroes, this guy will own you before you even reach the halfway mark of the book.
“I didn’t even know who I was without him. If I wasn’t Garrett Daniels’ girl… I wasn’t anyone.”
And don’t you count Callie Carpenter out just yet, because she’ll also win you over with her absolute sweetness and quirkiness. She has the perfect personality to complement Garrett’s and it’s only proven more when they gave that pure, passionate love they’ve always had all throughout the years the second chance it truly deserves.
“This is real and solid… and us. How did I breathe without this? How will I exist without it?”
I loved everything about this book, but most especially that it was about two teachers—about two beautiful souls who cared so much and truly wanted to make a difference. I loved the impact and significance it portrayed in dealing with the kids—their students. How Garrett and Callie won them over in their own special way and got inevitably attached to them. How they saw the goodness in every single one of them, even those who were nasty brats to them and the other kids in the beginning. It made my heart even fuller than it already is and my ovaries to near-exploding levels.
Getting Schooled was such a sweet, adorable and all-around heart-warming second chance romance that will give you heart eyes for days. There were definitely chuckles and giggles, even some sniffles and tears. And a whole lot of teenage googly-eyed swooning—especially over Coach D. This book is guaranteed to leave you floating in cloud nine, high on all things Garrett Daniels, even long after you’ve reached that last page. It’s one that isn’t only hilarious and entertaining to boot, but is also deliciously sexy and romantic and everything you’d expect from an Emma Chase novel.

Highly Recommended
OMG! I loved EVERYTHING about this book. It’s sweet, fun, sarcastic, sassy, and downright ADORABLE. This my friends is second chance romance at it’s finest and I was enamored in their story. In fact, I loved it so much that it has become my favorite Emma Chase book to date! And that’s saying a lot because I adored her previous books (especially the Legal Briefs series). Anyway, if you love second chance romances without the unnecessary drama this is the perfect book for you. It’s an easy, breezy read with down to earth and realistic characters that will quickly capture your heart. There is an emotional element to the story, but it isn’t what readers would expect (it actually has nothing to do with their relationship). I was BAWLING my eyes out. Sigh…
Getting Schooled is the first book in the Getting Some series. It features Garrett Daniels- history teacher and head football coach- and Callie Carpenter – the new theater teacher. This is NOT a forbidden romance (sometimes when readers see “school” in the headlines they immediately think that, but this is not that kind of book. Callie and Garrett dated each other in high school until Callie moved away to pursue her dreams in theater. 17 years later her parents are in an accident and she needs to come home to care for them (wait until you hear what caused this accident- I almost choked on my coffee). Knowing that she won’t be able to keep her apartment in California without income, she takes a job at the school where she attended many years before. But she doesn’t expect her ex boyfriend to be working there also… And soon, the two begin to spend time together and remember what made them fall in love so long ago.
Join Garrett and Callie as they teach the spawn of Satan at their old stomping ground and find reasons to fall in love despite it all, over again. Readers won’t be disappointed in the story and will likely find themselves grinning from ear to ear throughout the majority of the book.
I highly recommend it!

Getting Schooled by Emma Chase
Narrated by: Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt
Series: Getting Schooled #1
4.5 Stars. Right from the start this book had me chuckling. Garrett had a great sense of humour, and he was a super sweet guy. Callie was a wonderful match for him. The high school kids added some nice fullness to the story. I really enjoyed this sweet second chance story.
Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt created a wonderful performance as usual.
You guys!! Getting Schooled was such a fun and sexy romance. I was hooked from the very first page and loved Garrett and Callie. This story was equally sexy and sweet and the swoons were out of control. I could not get enough of the banter and the extended cast ofncharacters and hope we get more stories in this series soon!!
Anyone who knows me knows that second chance romance is always hit or miss for me because the chemistry and foundation of the couple’s relationship (past and present) has to be solid. And honestly? Emma Chase nailed it!! I love how this romance just felt natural. Callie and Garrett picked up right where they left off – High School sweethearts who broke up Freshman year in College due to long distance – and now it’s years later and their spark is still present and simmering under the surface. I loved that Garrett was a cocky alpha through and through but he was also so genuine, kind and his heart and feelings for Callie never changed. This was just a fantastic story that knocked the socks off me and had me laughing, teary eyed and ready for more.
I absolutely loved this and can’t wait for more from this author in the future! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
Who ever said you can’t go home again never met Garrett and Callie. Due to the unfortunate accident her parents were involved in Callie has to leave her newly appointed position with her theatre company and come home to take care of them with her sister. Coming home means running into her high school boyfriend Garrett. She takes a position in the high school as theatre teacher filling in for the teacher who is now on maternity leave. The same school Garrett teaches history and is the varsity football coach.
Its as though 17 years never went by. Garrett and Callie pick up right where they left off. Their feelings are now stronger. Both never married and for good reason. They both still never got over each other. The feelings and everything that went along with that are still there. A love story that held and survived through the years as well across the miles. Their story is such a true and pure love story. High school sweethearts, young and only finding themselves in what life is offering. Now mature they find their way back to one another and realize that they belong together and nothing is going to stop them from being together not even the miles across the country.
Once again Emma Chase delivers a story you cannot help but fall in love with. From her characters to Snoopy and everything in between. A must read on everyone’s list.
Garrett is a bit of a legend in his little New Jersey lake town. He used to be the high school superstar football player. Then he hurt his knee – and instead of making it big in the NFL – he’s back home as a history teacher and coach. And he loves every moment of it.
His life is good. His family is crazy. Everything is pretty perfect.
Enter Callie.
His high school sweetheart.
She’s back home. Her life in San Diego was pretty perfect too. She just landed her dream job at a theater when she had to come back home to help her sister take care of their parents.
And she’s working at the school with Garrett.
Old sparks and feelings are still very much there – even after 15 years.
But Callie’s life is on the west coast and Garrett loves being a bachelor….
What will happen with Callie & Garrett?
Will there be a HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
Such an adorable and fun and moving romance!
I love Emma’s male POV’s! Her guys are just so amazing!
This book is told from both Garrett’s and Callie’s POV.
Garrett is just so adorably cocky. I loved him!
Pretty much everybody in this town is amazing. The parents are hilarious, the siblings are fun. The dog is the best and the students are a menace!
I just loved how Callie and Garrett never stopped loving each other. Lots of wasted years where they could’ve have a life together – but they had to grow up. It was probably supposed to be this way. And this way was mega sweet and just perfect!
I really enjoyed reading this book!
You get everything you need in a great romance:
FUN, SPARKS, LOVE.
CUTE & FRUSTRATING SCHOOL MOMENTS. CUDDLY DOGGIE MOMENTS.
SEXY MOMENTS, MOVING MOMENTS, ADORABLE MOMENTS.
I laughed and cried and awwed.
I wouldn’t mind seeing this as a cute Made-For-TV-Movie one day. Maybe a Christmas movie – even though there wasn’t much of a holiday feeling in it. And it took place over almost a whole year, but still. A Christmas movie with Garrett and Callie and Snoopy would be soooo adorable!
GETTING SCHOOLED was such an amazing second chance love story !
FUNNY, SEXY, ADORABLE & MOVING!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Garrett, because this one is so MINE!!
And P.S. where the hell where those amazing teachers when we were kids decades ago??? Ugh!
And now I’m ready for Dean’s story!! GIMMEEEE!!!
Getting Schooled is one of those good feeling, second chance romances that take’s hold of your heart.
Callie and Garett have been away from each other for a long time. But the love they had all those years never disappeared. It was still powerful. Something happens, don’t worry nothing tragic but it brings Callie back to her small town. And fives that chance for their love to spark again.
I love how Chase can weave the humor and the love together. Bringing moments that stick with you as a reader. I teared up in some parts and laughed in others. The narrators were excellent and they brought these characters to life.
Overall, Five Boundless Stars
Callie just loves her students, “little effnutters don’t know who the h**l they’re dealing with,” I growl.” Garrett is learning that kids like to over share things, “I can sprint home in ten, do the deed, and be back here in fifteen.” Apparently, DJ s***s as fast as he runs— there’s something I could’ve gone my whole da*n life without knowing.” Garrett is crude at times, “I roll over. “Wait, let me check.” I slide my hand into my pants, cupping my junk. “Yeah, I still have a ***k. Why would shopping cheer me up?” Garrett always looks at the bright side of things, “Callie and I hit the grocery store together— because even something as boring as grocery shopping is better if I can look at Callie’s *** while doing it.” I loved this book, there was so much heart in it. Garrett was entertaining with his thoughts and Callie was just the ying to his yang.
My, oh my….I really enjoyed this audiobook! Getting Schooled was the PERFECT book to be released in audio first….the narration was fantastic and the storyline was incredibly unique; the entire experience was a joy and pleasure to listen to!
I caught myself laughing out loud so many times, I lost count! The humor was spot on – between the writing and the dialogue, it was highly entertaining. But what really sold me was Zachary Webber’s voice….. *SWOON* …..I could listen to him all day, every day! Don’t get me wrong, Andi Arndt was terrific as well, it’s just Zachary’s narration was AMAZING! The emotion and interpretation he put into the character of Garrett was superb….just, WOW!
I can’t wait to read the physical book, and I hope I get all swoony and lovestruck just like I did when listening to the audio version!
Well done, Emma Chase…..well done!
5 Stars!
Getting Schooled gets an A+ from me! From Emma’s writing to the audiobook dream team Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber, it was absolutely perfect. I usually find road trips boring and/or exhausting, but I had the best drive EVER across the mountains of western Maryland thanks to this book. I couldn’t love it more if I tried.
Man. This book. I laughed, swooned and smiled my way through Getting Schooled. No lie, I was “that person” in my car, laughing my head off while reading. (Until, of course, that one super sad thing near the end of the book that had me quite literally sobbing. Holy unexpected feels.) I freaking love second chance romance and Garrett and Callie’s is one of the best I’ve read in a very long time. I fell head over heels in love with both characters. They were fantastic and despite the time that’d passed, there was absolutely no doubt they were endgame. In fact, it was almost as though they’d never been separated at all. They were that perfect of a fit.
Anyone who reads Emma Chase’s books knows she excels at writing the male POV. She’s a freaking genius. Garrett is near the top of the list of my favorites of her guys so far. He was just … real. His romance with Callie was one thing, but the way he was with his students and players made him even better in my eyes. It was obvious how much he cared about those kids. He made me laugh and swoon and even cry. Feels for freaking days with this one. And, of course, Callie was also wonderful. I loved spending time in her head, too.
So yeah, I loved every little thing about this book. I could gush about it forever. It was a total delight. I was so in love with the story that I really wanted to buy the ebook so I could finish it sooner, because there were 3 days between my days in the car. Of course, that was a big womp womp because it’s not on ebook yet. It was a total lesson in self-restraint. It was all worth the wait, however, because Andi and Zachary were AMAZING. They really brought the characters and the story to life. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Getting Schooled series. And to, of course, buy the audio and a paperback because I need to listen to this again and again… And I really need Garrett and Callie on my shelves.

“You were always my girl, Callie. Even after you weren’t any more.”
