A magnificent new romance by New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase.Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and … hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.
Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.
One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. 4.5 stars I decided on a whim to finally listen to the second book in the Getting Some series today and I’m so glad I did because it was cute as heck and I needed it after some pretty dark and heavy books. There’s only a little bit of angst in this and I think that some people might find Dean a little immature, especially at first, but I’m really glad I picked this up because this series is just sweet, saucy, funny and refreshing.

Dean and Lainey have a one-night stand. A steamy encounter that leaves Dean pining after Lainey months later. Lainey is a lifestyle blogger/ single mother raising a teenage son. Things get interesting when she decides to dig her roots in Lakeside, NJ. Dean is a player by nature who’s had his share of women. Taking a hiatus from his band, the sexy-as-sin AP Math teacher gets the surprise of his life at Parent night. Lainey’s there and he’s excited. But will that excitement remain once Lainey shares a little secret she’s been keeping? Find out yourself with this awesome read. It’s fun, sexy and one of my top reads.
This book was so overwhelmingly delightful! This book caught my attention when it was first released but I never got around to reading it back then. I’ve been in a fervent audiobook-listening-mood lately and saw this title on Audible Plus so I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I am so glad that I did!
Emma Chase is a new author for me and I was so impressed with her storytelling. The writing had impeccable quality and the plot was structured excellently. The pacing of the story was spot on. I was so sucked into this story right from the beginning and I was entranced until the very last word.
Gah! These characters spoke to me so thoroughly. I instantly fell in love with them. And not just Dean and Lainey, the two main characters, but all of the characters. This book has a boisterous cast of amazing characters that I fell so hard for. The secondary characters added so much depth and value to the story. I really loved Dean and Lainey’s personalities. They were such well-rounded characters with so much individuality that jumped off the page. I loved how distinct all of the characters were.
Dean and Lainey’s romance was blazing hot! And not just steamy hot either. Their romance was so genuine and heartfelt. You could feel their love in all that they said and did for and with each other. Their chemistry was immediate and significant from the moment they met and it only got stronger the more they got to know each other. I loved every moment of their love story.
Overall, this story rocked my ever-loving socks off! I am on board for this book all day long and I will recommend it to all that will listen. If you are a fan of accidental pregnancy stories or books with exceptional characters that capture your heart then you’ll want to read this one. This story is a true gem.

Whether she’s writing about lawyers, princes or teachers, Emma Chases characters are always fun to read. In Getting Played, I loved Lainey’s bright outlook on life & Dean’s playful yet parental rapport with his students. The sublime narration by Andi Arndt & Zachary Webber make this already great story a must listen
I listened to this series on audio (Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber!) and I loved it. Such a great escape. I hope there will be more books!
Loved, Loved, Loved. Dean is hottttt. And I loved this story & how protective he was of Lainey. When Chet was saying that stuff & Dean says, What the fuck did you just say? I was a goner. It also helped that we share the same name, but my spelling is Lainie. 🙂
This book was so great! I think I loved it even more than book 1. The dialogue was the best. I loved the chemistry between Dean and Lainey. Great read!
I normally don’t care for audiobooks, but I got sick and tired of waiting for this bad boy to come out. Since I have the Audible Escape package I decided to give this book a try, and oh hot damn am I glad I tried it.
Lainey is a single parent who is raising a 14 year old boy while running her lifestyle blog. Getting the job of a lifetime to blog for FB about redecorating a house in another town, Lainey decides to let loose one night. Who knew that one night would turn into a box worth of used condoms and an end to her 5 year dry spell. While she hoped she would be able to have somewhat of a repeat with Drummer boy, she undoubtedly knew that either he wouldn’t call or kindly kick her out awkwardly.
Dean spent his summer touring with his band. Coming back home to Lakeside to get back to teaching and coaching football during the rest of the year. Dean has been in a mood, after ending the summer without the number of the gorgeous blonde he can’t get out of his head and coming back to his grandmother. He moves on with teaching his AP Calculus class. Filled with mostly juniors, but there is a Jason Burrow who is 14 years old.
When teacher conference with the parents happens, who else walks in, none other than his one-night stand Lainey. Will Dean be able to put his old ways to rest and be the man Lainey needs? Will Lainey be left to take care of another child by herself?
I loved this book. It may have been an audiobook, but I loved it. I loved the comedy so much and hearing it in audio was that funnier! **giggle** I highly recommend this book and it can be read as a standalone. I will however, recommend that you also read Getting Schooled. It is just as funny, sweet and is about Garret and Callie.
I’m not leaving. There’s only you. I promise, I swear, it’s only you.
Emma Chase’s writing is like a soft, warm blanket on a cold day. It wraps abounds your body, letting you feel content and just happy. Add to this a cup of hot tea and we have a recipe for a great afternoon. That is how I felt after reading Getting Played. The author transported me to Lainey and Dean’s world and I wish I could stay with them a little longer. Funny, addictive from the very first page and very fast read. I am totally in love and awe!
Lainey is a single mother and a lifestyle blogger. She did not expect her wild, one night stand with a sexy drummer will leave her with a surprise. But with no information about hot baby daddy, she decided to raise the baby on her own. With her teenage son, she moves to a new town to start a blog project. Feeling content Lainey did not realize that she will meet Dean again, in her son’s school. The sparks flew and the connection they still felt months after seeing each other was even stronger and fiercer. Will they decide to give themselves a chance?
I simply loved Lainey and Dean’s story. I loved how Dean fought for Lainey and her son. How he cared about his grandma, friends, and students. I loved how Lainey decided to trust Dean knowing his past player’s reputation. And how rewarding and blessings their love was.
Getting Player is a swoon-worthy, sweet, sexy and heartwarming story. A story about two mature people who don’t make reckless decisions and decide to run. Lainey and Dean had their flaws and fears but they did not stop them from admitting their feelings and trusting each other. It was very rewarding and left me with the biggest, goofiest smile ever. I really recommend Getting Played!
I loved this book. The humor, story, and characters are all delightful.
There was only one big issue I had with the book. I don’t want to go into specifics because I’d rather not reveal too much about the story, but unfortunately, it was a detail that told me that Emma did not do research on this particular topic. Or her research only involved what she’s seen on TV and in movies, and this resulted in her getting things wrong. For most readers, it won’t impact the enjoyment of the story because they won’t know any better. But for those of us who have gone through it in real life, her errors just make us cringe (and also wish her version of what happens in this particular situation is indeed true, because we would have been really happy if that were the case!).
Have I enticed you to read the book and find out what I’m talking about? lol
Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple, until he meets Lainey Burrows. This was such a wonderful story between the sweetest characters that had such a lovely chemistry, the story line was a simple one of a one night stand with consequences that were unforeseen but the story line was much more focused on building a not only a relationship but a family bond and the sex was steamy. There were some times when Dean sounded a little dickish in his attitude towards dating but deep down he was a sweetheart. This was a really great read.
Such a fun and sweet read. Just what I needed. I havent read the first book in this series, but you can bet your ass I will go back and fix that grave error.
I laughed my ass off reading this one and I think Lainey and Dean were absolutely perfect together. Not to mention Jason…what an awesome kid.
This book was all kinds of fluffy goodness and I can’t wait for more. I am gonna keep a close eye on this author. I just have one important question….which I hope someone will be able to answer for me. Does Jack (and Erin) have his own story…or will he be getting one, because I think I fell a little bit in love with him.
Definitely a 4,5 star read for me !!
Getting Played is a sexy, funny, low-angst, heartfelt romantic comedy about a one-night stand that turns into the sweetest forever, when single-mom, Lainey Burrows, discovers that her steamy summer fling – Dean Walker – is also her son’s new math teacher. It’s a swoony, feel good story that focuses on a small town, family, and the amazing surprises life throws our way.
Getting Played is a one-night stand you won’t forget! A funny and charming tale of making the most out of an unexpected life-changing event.
Well this book sure hooks you from the start with what I’d consider an ultimate fantasy if it were to come true. If I were single, I’d totally want a sexy drummer to eye fuck me all night while his band plays and then seek me out the moment their set is done and THEN fuck me all night long. Yeah, I’d so be down with that happening. Lainey Burrows however is the lucky recipient of this hot night with Dean Walker in Getting Played.
After this initial meeting, the story proceeds as you’d anticipate when Lainey finds out that she’s accidentally knocked up from her one night stand- the man who now just happens to be her teenage son’s new math teacher. While I loved how Lainey and Dean ultimately claimed their HEA, there didn’t seem to be much depth to the story. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of unwarranted drama but I felt like it just sweetly travelled along to the HEA when maybe there could have been even more to this story or maybe more to the feelings they were struggling with.
Overall, I’d say it was a sweet love story where the town hottie who never settled down falls hard for the single mom/blogger who’s the momma of his baby to be. I really liked Dean because he was just a great guy! We already know he’s a hot drummer who can dish out the orgasms but we come to see what a great teacher he is and how he really cares for his students. Plus, he shows what a great father he will be in his interactions with Lainey’s son, and he steps up time and time again for Lainey. Overall, he’s just plain awesome.
While I absolutely love Emma Chase and all of her books, I’d say that I enjoyed this book but it didn’t overall wow me. I’m just used to her giving me all the feels (from her Tangled series and The Royally series) but this one was just a sweet, quick read that perhaps didn’t strike me as a 5 star book only because it wasn’t very original in the plot line. That being said, I adore her writing and her character development and always wait with bated breath for her next book debut!
I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for a sweet love story that features an “oops” pregnancy after a one night stand.
You can never go wrong with an Emma Chase book. Hot guy, great heroine, sexy plot. She always delivers!

~~ 4 WINSOME STARS! ~~
“I’m all in.”
I have been a fan of Emma Chase for ages. However, when I read GETTING SCHOOLED last year (book one in her Getting Some series), I was on cloud nine because I knew she’d hit upon something extra special. There’s something about the high school setting that makes this series so unique and wondrous. So, it was a no brainer that she would totally charm my socks off with GETTING PLAYED!
THE PREMISE:
This second standalone installment revolves around Lainey Burrows, a beautiful and hardworking lifestyle blogger/single mom, and Dean Walker, a roguishly sexy drummer/math teacher, who find themselves magnetically drawn together one night at a bar on the Jersey Shore where he’s playing with his band. So, what’s this instantly smitten duo to do? Why throw caution to the wind and succumb to a wild and sizzling hot summer hookup that rocks both their worlds of course! Alas, the next morning comes much too soon and they regretfully go their separate ways.
But ooops! Two months later, shortly after Lainey and her son Jason move to Lakeside, she discovers she’s preggers!
Once the shock wears off reality sets in. Since Lainey never got Dean’s last name and has no way to contact her “Mr. Hot-Baby-Daddy,” she’s fully prepared to raise their precious bambino all by her lonesome (just like she was doing with her son). But eeep there’s one more huuuuuge surprise in store. Because when she discovers that Jay’s AP calculus math teacher is also the same “Sexy-Drummer-Guy” who fulfilled all her secret fantasies–and put a bun in her oven–things are about to get mighty interesting! Neither is looking for complications but fate has other plans in store for them both, and truth be told neither could forget about the other during their time apart. They agree to team up to co-parent their baby but before long real feelings arise and in Dean her boy finds the male role model he’s been seeking all his life. Can this crazy in love couple make beautiful music together…as a bona fide family… forever?
MY MUSINGS:
Sighhh! GETTING PLAYED was a pure unadulterated deliciousness! This wildly addicting, sweet and seductive romance was unputdownable and it stole my heart from page one!
And it was UBER SEXY too!
Emma Chase is a master at her craft and as always her funny, kind and lovable characters are beyond divine! For starters, Lainey is strong and independent, sweet and soulful, loving and loyal, and puts her beloved “Jaybird’s” needs first above all else. When she discovers she’s pregnant, she’s fully prepared to do things on her own, as she’s used to, but then she unexpectedly crosses paths with Dean again and it’s a total game changer! But she’s been let down before so trust does NOT come easy for her.
And gah Dean? Holy moly did I love that man to pieces! He has this “wild drummer boy, sexy professor” vibe going that’s so hot! And this former player, who had a difficult upbringing and whose MO is being footloose and fancy free, has a heart of PURE GOLD. So, when Coach Walker finds what he’s been looking for in not only Lainey but in her son we all know his bachelor days are about to be numbered! Granted, he has a little freak out moment when he discovers he’s about to be a daddy but it does not take him long to decide he’s “all in!” I enjoyed how hard and fast he fell for Lainey and she for him!
These two were just so darn adorable and sexy and utterly MAGICAL together! Their chemistry is combustible and off the charts hot, and their reunion steamy and sweet with a tinge of angst, and ultimately their connection is impossible resist. Sure, they have some issues to work through and new games plans need to be drawn up, but they are in it together every step of the way! They are just so perfect for each other and watching this big, handsome former “player” dote on a pregnant Lainey was just the most endearing thing ever!!
“There’s this punch of emotion that hits me right in the gut as I watch her. Because her smile, her long-lashed, innocent eyes, her laugh, her mind, her heart—they’re all so beautiful—precious, to me. And it’s not until this moment that I realize I can’t remember what my life looked like before her. And now, I can’t imagine my life without her in it. I don’t even want to try.“
Blissful romance aside, one of my FAVORITE things about this novel is the bond that Dean forged with Lainey’s fatherless son, Jay. The way he looked up to Dean really tugged at my heartstrings big time and even when they hit a rough patch I knew these two would make it through. Plus seeing Dean interact with his students aka “the little band of misfit kids” as well as the other faculty members was a huge highlight. The entire secondary cast was seamlessly woven into the fabric of the story and infused it with warmth, wit, charm and humor up the wazoo! And for readers familiar with the first book, Dean and Coach D, the hero of GETTING SCHOOLED, are best buds and their camaraderie was just so enjoyable!
Ultimately, I found myself laughing out loud and swooning many times throughout and while there are a few bumps in the road it goes without saying that the HEA will have you clutching your chest and blinking back tears of joy!
BOTTOM LINE:
GETTING PLAYED was ah-maz-ing!! This enchanting, highly entertaining, delightfully satisfying romance, which was chock full of love, laughter, heartwarming emotion and scorching hot sexy times, just hit all the high notes and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that sometimes life’s unexpected surprises can be the sweetest of all. I cannot wait for more books in this winsome series!
A MUST READ!
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this one. Dean at first makes you iffy of him because of his playboy ways, but trust me hang in there with him because he’s going to make you swoon. He’s a glasses wearing teacher during the school year and then a drummer in the summer. He’s a bad boy nerd. A sexy combination in my opinion. I loved all the characters in this one. Lainey’s family is awesome. Dean’s friends and Grams are funny. I loved the small town vibe of this book as well. Laniey’s one night sand left her with a little lasting surprise. Another surprise when her one night stand turns out to be her son’s teacher. Lainey and Dean are so great together. I loved how Dean is with her. It makes him a better man that really the whole town has been waiting for. Another thing I loved about this book is the humor. It had me chuckling through out the book. I loved that Lainey is a crafter because I am too. The characters really pull you in and you look up from reading to see it’s almost 2 AM. It’s a book I would highly recommend!
You know those times when you just want to relax and get lost in a good romance? Well, add GETTING PLAYED by Emma Chase to that list of books.
Once again, Chase has written an entertaining romance that’s equally sweet as it is sexy. The writing flows well, and I was quickly immersed in Dean and Hailey’s story. The one-night-stand and unplanned pregnancy tropes are common in romance-land but I very much appreciated the down-to-earth attitude of the characters and how they handled themselves; I found them relatable.
Like the first book in the ‘Getting Some’ series, there’s a great cast of secondary characters that really add to the overall storyline without overshadowing our couple. I like this town and I like the people that live there. There’s an ordinariness to the characters that makes them feel familiar. They do the same things we do: hold down jobs, pay bills, have the odd nutty relative and try to carve out a live they enjoy living.
I hope there are more books planned for this series. Lots of laughter, lots of love and lots of steamy goodness is a great recipe for a romance book.
