I love an awesome single mom, sort-of second chance romance AND I love Emma Chase’s amazing brand of humor. If you’re looking for a fun, sexy romance with loads of feels, steam and swoon then this is perfect fall read!
It’s been a few years since I’ve read a book by Emma Chase and I had almost forgotten how beautifully charming her writing was. Almost. Getting Played was a delightfully hilarious story about how a one night stand turned into forever and I LOVED it!!
Lainey was a single mom of an incredible teenage boy. She was a lifestyle blogger and after landing a big deal, she was out celebrating. She couldn’t tear her eyes off of the drummer playing in the bar. And he couldn’t tear his eyes off of her. After an entertaining conversation, some more drinks, and a ton of exchanged lustful stares, they went on to have the night of their lives. The next morning didn’t go as either of them planned and they’re destined to never see each other again. But they can’t stop thinking about each other. And Lainey NEEDS to find him. Because their one night created the most beautiful of circumstances.
I loved that although Dean was a manwhore, he was completely gaga over Lainey. She wasn’t in it alone. There was no unrequited love because they were falling together. It was super sweet and I couldn’t get enough! It was also super dirty and I LOVED Dean’s filthy ways. There was a bit of angst with regards to Dean’s promiscuous past, but it only served to prove how hard he was working to make a better future with Lainey. She was it for him and there was absolutely no doubt.
I’m still relatively new to the audiobook scene, but these narrators did a great job of bringing these characters to life. I’m not a big fan of them trying to do opposite sex voices (it was a bit odd), but overall, they were awesome and I’d definitely listen to them again. This was a real feel-good romance that can turn you on just as well as it will warm your heart!
You can never go wrong with an Emma Chase romance! GETTING PLAYED was witty and charming! Listen now, read later!

I don’t even read the blurb when Emma Chase releases a book! I’ve loved everything she’s written, and Getting Played is no exception. (I also might have stalked her in a bathroom in Italy once to introduce myself. I’m that big of a fan.)

Lainey Burrows is a lifestyle blogger with a new assignment: redecorate and reinvigorate an old house in a new town. The new assignment means she and her genius son will be moving to a new town for a new start.
Dean Walker is living the single life. His band still tours in the summer, though the rest of the year he has settled into the life of an Honors Math teacher. His wild teenage years still life large through much of the summer as he travels with his band.
A one-night stand after Dean’s band plays in Lainey’s hometown leaves them both wishing they could have more than one night. But that isn’t the way they think things should work and they go their separate ways.
This was both a quick start and a slow burn. What starts as a one night stand shifts in a different direction, and Lainey holds all the cards. She lays down her rules and isn’t afraid to demand what she wants from Dean, leaving it up to him if he is willing to meet her terms or not. Dean has a lot to answer for from his past, and though he may be ready to try something new, he has to convince Lainey he is through with his player ways.
I haven’t read the previous book in the series for a few reasons, but I am so glad I jumped in at this point. Though I don’t know the story from the other couple, I was able to fit into this world seamlessly and without feeling like I was missing anything by not having the background. They do appear as support characters, but their story isn’t central to Dean and Lainey’s.
This kept me grinning from nearly page 1. I loved the surprise pregnancy, especially as Lainey is mid-move to the (unknown to her) hometown of her one-night stand. And then when Jason turned up in Dean’s class as well. Melt my heart. I think I was just jonesing for this type of book, though I wouldn’t have been able to articulate that before I was mid-read.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
What’s the difference between a tire and 365 used condoms?
One’s a Goodyear. The other’s a great year.
Hilariously funny and heartwarmingly sweet, ‘Getting Played’ was everything I’ve come to expect from Emma Chase. Witty, and full of banter, sexy and tender with enough tension to tie you up in knots, and enough sweet to melt even the blackest of hearts.
Dean is the uber-sexy Calculus teacher, assistant football coach, and drummer. The charming playboy lives for today, experiencing life to its fullest. At the end of the summer tour with his band, he has a one-night stand with the woman who would bring him to his knees, the one who would leave him wanting more. And without a means to contact her, he spends the rest of the summer and beginning of the new school year thinking about her.
There were two things single mother, and lifestyle blogger Lainey never expects to happen; getting knocked up after a one-night stand, and finding out that her son’s new math teacher is the man she’s been trying to find, the one who forever changed her life.
I laughed out loud while reading this book, where Emma Chase comes up with things she writes is beyond me. Her books are incredibly smart, funny, and sexy. Chase could teach a class in character development. Rarely do you find an author who consistently nails it, but Emma Chase does, and she does it brilliantly. She brings imaginary characters to life between the pages of her books; their dreams are vibrant, their pain is sharp, and their love is incontestable.
We’re worth waiting for, Lainey.
Now they’ve got skin in the game
One wild one-night stand was all it was supposed to be…dive into this sexy sweet rom-com today!!!
All the swoon and cuteness from Emma Chase!
Emma Chase can do no wrong. This book is an absolute delight! I highly recommend it.
5 star review Getting Played(Getting Some #2) by Emma Chase
Audio Review:
This may be hard to believe but this is the first time I have read/listened to Emma Chase and I have absolutely no idea why that is. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.
I was absolutely riveted from the first to the last chapter of Getting Played. The narrators Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a great job in bringing this story to life.
I fell hard and fast for Dean Walker, a talented drummer touring with his band during the summer months and a high school teacher the rest of the year. He lives his life without commitment and yet all it takes is a smoking hot one night stand with Lainey Burrows to have him second guessing his choices.
Lainey walks away the morning after but neither Dean or Lainey can forget that night. Fast forward several months and Lainey is shocked to find that her son’s new maths teacher is Dean. Dean of course is shattered to learn that Lainey is pregnant with his baby.
Dean is blown away by the news that he is going to be a father, initially terrified that he will be a failure, but as he slowly gets to know Lainey and her son Jason, he comes to realise that he has everything he never knew he wanted within his grasp.
The chemistry between Dean and Lainey is intense but there is so much more to their relationship than just the chemistry.
I love the relationship that Dean has with Jason as well as all his students; he truly cares about them all. Also the relationship that he has with his grandmother was beautiful to watch. It is these relationships that show what a deeply caring and considerate man Dean is.
Can Dean prove to not only the town but to himself that he has changed? Having been burnt in the past, will Lainey open herself up to the possibility of love and a future with Dean?
Getting Played is releasing in Audio first and I jumped at the chance to listen. This was a sweet, romantic, hot story about taking a chance on love that ticked all the boxes for me.
Love this series! Such an amazing story with wonderful characters. A great blend of humor and steam. Emma Chase is a fav!
Flipping heck! I don’t know what made this audio sooooo good. Was it the fab story and writing, the wonderful characters, or could it have been the truly perfect narration? Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber, thank you very much.Maybe it was all three together that made this one hella enjoyable experience, an audio to really get lost in. The story was so sweet, with such lovely characters, Dean is the ultimate book boyfriend (in my eyes), and Lainey is adorable, I loved her, as I’m sure any sane person would. I really do need to read more by this author.
