A magnificent new romance by New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase.Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and … hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.
Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.
One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. But that’s nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all—their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked up, and now they’re about to become parents. Together.

I listened to the audio, first off, I absolutely ADORE Andi Arndt, she could read the tax code and I’d listen. I do really enjoy Zachary Webber as a narrator too, but not as much as Andi Arndt. This book was so sweet, and honestly had me laughing out loud several times. I absolutely did not want to turn it off, or for it to end. It was so so good, I can not recommend it enough.
Audiobook review:
Getting Played was the most entertaining story to listen to and the narratars were brilliant!!! I loved both their voices so much and the way they narrated this book made it incredibly fun to listen to.
I think the author has written this story so well that its one of the best books I’ve heard this year!! What made it so good was the way both Andi and Zachary spoke. Their voices are heaven to the ears and they brought the characters to life so well. Definitely an audiobook must have!!! I laughed alot ad that makes the story even better when that happens. Emma has certainly outdone herself with the book and I cannot wait for more from her.
Audiobook review
Another wonderful story by Emma Chase. I had listened to Getting Schooled last year and really enjoyed it so when I saw Dean’s story available in audio, I knew I had to snap it up. The narrators, Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did an amazing job as usual.
A one night stand ended up being so much more. Dean is a player, not a relationship type of guy, but with Lainey, Jason and the surprise baby in his life, that definitely changes. Living in a small town, everyone knows everything about everyone and Dean’s ways with the females are well known (this was the only part that I wasn’t too fond of). So all eyes are on him and waiting to see him fall. As for Lainey herself, I absolutely adored her, I loved her way of looking at life, it was so refreshing. She is also a wonderful mother to 14-year old Jason, who is just the sweetest. This whole story was just great, I loved Dean and Lainey’s relationship, it was low angst and just plain fun.
It’s time to head back to Lakeside. This time it is for Dean, Garrett’s best friend.
Dean’s a drummer, he is a math teacher and the assistant football coach. Lainey is a single mom and a lifestyle blogger. Her and Dean have a one night stand while he is on tour over the summer and of course, with a one night stand they don’t exchange any information other than first names because there is no chance there will be a repeat……..or so they think.
This is a perfect summer story. I listened to the audiobook and it was amazing. I was completely hooked on Dean and Lainey’s story from the beginning. I couldn’t stop listening. I’m also a sucker for a surprise baby story and this one may be one of my favorites ever! Dean is super super super swoon-worthy. The man is a Rockstar drummer and he has the hot teacher thing going on. Plus, with how he is with Lainey. Super sweet. Lainey is amazing. She is a single mother and just takes life by the horns. I love how she is with her son and how loving she is towards him. I would totally hire her to decorate my home, her ideas are completely fantastic and I love how resourceful she is!
If you’ve read the first book, there is some more Garrett and Callie and you get to see how their relationship has progressed. Dean’s Grams is totally amazing and hilarious. She had me cracking up so many times throughout the story. Lainey’s sisters were also amazing side characters, I loved how different each sister was from one another. Plus, her son, Jason, and all of Dean’s students added so much to the story.
This story is fantastic. It is super sweet, steamy, laugh out loud funny and a MUST READ/MUST LISTEN. Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did an AMAZING job and bring Lainey and Dean alive.
A- rating…Both of the books in this series have been amazing audiobooks. The narration is perfect and getting to see these characters viewpoints on high school kept me laughing out loud. Another great addition to this series.
Oh baby!! This audio was fantastic!! I laughed so much that I was embarrassed driving around listening. Dean and Laney are so perfect that I couldn’t stop listening.
A fantastic audiobook! The narration by Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber is PERFECTION! Absolutely FLOVED this storyline! Hooked from beginning to end. The chemistry between Dean and Laney is instantaneous and sizzling hot. Their banter will either have you rolling on the ground laughing or swooning. A definite must listen!
I really had a great time listening to this book. The narrators were great. They truly kept me engaged. The story itself was entertaining. It was sweet, funny, sexy, and full of emotion.
I loved Getting Schooled (the previous book). I didn’t think it could get better than Garrett and Emma, but Dean and Lainey have jumped to the front of the line. They had such great chemistry. The liked each other as well as being attracted to each other. I was cheering them on to find each other, then to get together, then to stay together, survive the hiccup, and move to their HEA. I loved the interaction between Dean and Lainey’s son, Jason. I also enjoyed the way he was with his students. Dean really stepped up his game in this book.
The secondary characters were awesome. Lainey’s sisters, Garrett’s brothers, the high school principal, and Dean’s Gram to name a few.
Zachary Weber and Andi Arndt gave each character their own personality and made them come alive. This Audiobook was fast paced, lighthearted, slightly irreverent, not only witty, but downright funny. When the last word was spoken, I was left with a smile on my face.
I am looking forward to other books in the series. At least I hope so with all the brothers and sisters Garrett and Lainey have that have been introduced to us.
Audiobook Review:
I haven’t read the first book of the Getting Some series, but have enjoyed this author’s work in the past; so when I got the opportunity to listen to her newest audiobook Getting Played- which featured two of my favorite narrators- I jumped on it. Although there’s clearly character overlap, this book can easily stand on its own. I loved the fun, flirty vibe throughout the story and thought it made a great summer listen that’s sure to warm your heart and put a smile on your face.
I really enjoyed both the main and secondary characters in Getting Played. The small town setting was nice and I loved the sense of a close knit community that came through. I also really liked that Lainey was a single mom who was successful and confident. I love strong heroines, and while she certainly struggled with some things, Lainey definitely fit the bill, especially as she prepared to enter new chapters in her life. The romance between Dane and Lainey was sweet and sexy. I did find myself missing out on a building chemistry between these two, but it worked here given the nature of their one night stand turning into forever- helped along by an unexpected pregnancy. Overall I really enjoyed this story and the narration was excellent. Both Mr. Webber and Ms. Arndt brought the characters and scenes to life using clear diction, a smooth cadence, and inserting the appropriate amount of emotion into every moment. If you’re looking for a fun listen with an easy, sweet vibe and good characters, I’d definitely recommend Getting Played.
I’ve been a fan of Emma Chase from the moment I read Tanged in 2013. She never disappoints always writing these amazing characters who are funny, sarcastic and reliable.
I listened to the audio version of this book and loved everything about the story. I love the crazy family dynamics and the small town unity. Laney’s relationship with Jay was great to experience because their openness created such an amazing mother/son relationship. Dean…oh Dean, there is something so damn hot about a man who can throw on a suit and glasses showing his intellectual side and then switch gears and be someone else completely different. He was so drawn to Laney and even from the beginning it was more physical.
I was drawn from the beginning. I laughed, I cried, I awwwwwwhhhed, I got mad – I had all the feels and of course it’s all because of Emma’s amazing writing and the narrators talent in brining the characters to life.
I want more Lakeside. I can’t get enough of this small town and the people who live there. while it can get invasive with everyone knowing everyone else’s business, small town folks are loyal to one another and always come together in times of need.
Loved the audiobook version of this book! Feel hard for Dean!!!! Great read!
Audio Review:
Emma Chase doesn’t push the envelope, she rewrites the whole script. Getting Played is an addictive romance in a sensual package. Dean and Lainey turn up the heat by breaking all the rules. Lust is instant, but love is everlasting. Can a surprise twist turn lust into a happy ending? Chase, Arndt and Webber are a seductive combination. A match made in audio heaven.
Getting Played is a downright panty melting, sweep you off your feet dynamo of an audiobook! Get ready to have your audio dreams come to life!
Ok, as you can tell I’m may have been a little enthusiastic about Getting Played audiobook here! Ok, I screamed with excitement when the audiobook hit my account! I may have done a little happy dance for good measure!
But it was worth the utter embarrassed it cost me!
Since that meant I could devour my new audiobook!
Only to be instantly captured from the very start! I’m an audio snob so this is not the norm for me. So, when I find my self instantly transported to audiobook heaven of sorts. Where the storyline is so intriguing, witty, and absolutely swooning over my heels!!
Then throw in the dynamic narration of Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber, that just brought the storyline to a whole new level bliss!!
You can now cue in the baby singing!
Since this is what true audio dreams are made out of!
Now if I could only get a hottie like Dean Walker all would be perfect in the world!!
5 fantastic stars!
Getting Schooled was my #1 favourite read last year, and ever since I heard that Emma Chase was going to make it into a series, Getting Played was my most anticipated read of this year. I dropped everything the moment this audiobook dropped onto my phone, and it did not disappoint!
We are taken back to the town of Lakeside, this time for the story of Dean – best friend of Garrett from book #1. Dean is the math teacher and assistant football coach at the same high school that he and Garrett attended as kids. He spends his summers touring with his band and playing his beloved drums, and it’s while performing one night that he becomes smitten with a woman in the crowd.
Lainey is a single mother to a teenage son and runs a successful lifestyle blog. She’s celebrating a new career opportunity out at a bar when she meets Dean. After staring lustfully at each other through his whole set, they share a fun and easy night together which ends with multiple rounds of the best sex either of them have had. They both consider it a hook-up and say goodbyes in the morning, but neither of them are able to forget each other or the amazing time they had together.
Months later, and Lainey’s job has moved her to Lakeside, and she and Dean get the surprise of their lives when they run in to each other again. The surprises continue when they then discover that Dean is the teacher that Lainey’s son can’t stop gushing about, and not only that… but Lainey is pregnant from their night together.
Squeeeee! I love a surprise pregnancy storyline, and this one is just gorgeous!
Dean is a simple guy. He loves his job, his friends, and his music, and he’s happy with his commitment-free lifestyle and his frequent hook-ups with no desire for anything more. But then there is Lainey. Not only was he unable to forget about her, but she makes him feel things he hasn’t felt before. The idea of a relationship is completely new to him, but she’s a total gamechanger for him. And the fact that she’s having his baby changes brings them together in a way he never would have anticipated.
Lainey is a ‘take life as it comes’ kind of girl. She’s smart and sensible, and I love how no-nonsense she is. She’s a wonderful mother and she’s prepared to go it alone, but as Dean declares himself all in, she finds her whole world flipped upside down.
Everybody in town new that when Dean the player fell, he would fall hard, and we get to see that in glorious detail as Dean throws himself into life as an expectant father, and allows everything he is feeling for Lainey to shine. It’s absolutely effortless and so, so beautiful, and while it’s not exactly conventional, and they do have some drama to sort through, it’s angst free, super sexy and so freaking sweet. I absolutely love these two together, and their journey to their HEA is lots of fun.
Lovers of the first book will be thrilled that we get to spend time with Garret and Callie, and there’s some great story progression for them, and once again there’s a fantastic bunch of side characters that bring so much to the story. The teachers at work, Dean’s Grandmother, Lainey’s family, her son, and the rest of Dean’s students absolutely shine whenever they appear, and this book had me laughing out loud so many times at the fantastic dynamics and banter.
Emma Chase has delivered another fantastic rom-com with characters that you can’t help but love and a love story that will have you laughing, swooning, fanning yourself and grinning like a fool.
The audiobook is once again narrated by Andie Arndt and Zachary Webber, and they are perfection!
I loved everything about this one!
