I love a secret baby romance and I downright ADORE second-chance romance, however, Getting Her Back was both a hit and miss for me.
I liked the concept and I liked how it was set up but I wanted more, especially towards the end when Audrey questioned Christian about their past and he up and left. Again. And when the time came when Christian gave the reason behind his absence, it just didn’t feel convincing enough but I know it has to with me and how my mind and thoughts work in situations like this.
Overall, it is an okay read but not something I would be jumping at the chance to recommend or going back for a re-read.
2.5 Stars!

Getting Her Back was a stand-alone by Penny Wylder.
Audrey wanted a baby. Her relationships hadn’t work out and it was time to move forward on her own. She couldn’t afford a clinic, but she could afford a company that vetted and paired partners just for her purpose. Enter Christian. Except Christian wasn’t a stranger, he was her ex.
I liked the premise but I didn’t particularly care for the characters. I wanted to like Christian and at times I did, but in the end, I hated his aloofness and silence. His refusal to answer the big question, not once but twice, was just too much. I didn’t feel their connection and he didn’t deserve a second chance. It was told from a single POV, Audrey’s. It’s possible if I had Christian’s perspective as well, I might have felt the connection between the two.
Additionally, there were numerous editing errors, which started immediately and continued to the end. It was as if I had an unedited copy. I believe the story had potential, but as written, it just didn’t work for me. With that said, I’ve enjoyed other books by Wylder and I look forward to reading more.
This was was my first read by Penny Wylder and what a bang to start with. Her writing and story telling is mesmerising and totally addictive. It’s an absolute start to an amazing journey now that the seal is broken. I have alot to catch up on and I’m damned thrilled.
This book is so fucking good… So good that it’s a damn travesty that it’s not a little longer….
It’s a second chance love story.
Chritian was scared and made a complete dickhead move. He then lost the love of his life Audrey.
Fast forward 3 years later and she wants a baby. I love that she wanted to do this on her own. Cos in this day and age Women have the ability to make a baby and raise them on our own. When Mr C learns this he goes about getting back what he lost. At the same time giving Audrey what she wants.
Watching these two learn to trust and fall in love again was beautiful. This book is something that definitely should not be missed.
Hope y’all love these two hot and swoony characters as much as I did…
Enjoy!!!

This story has me on a bubble. I really really wanted to love this book. I enjoy Penny as a writer and I love secret baby stories, however, I am not big on second chance stories but I knew that was what this story was going in. But I wanted to give this book a chance.
I liked the concept of the story and I liked how Penny set this story up, however, I wasn’t too thrilled on how these two interacted with each other towards the end of the book. When Audrey FINALLY asks Christian why he walked away from her the first time and he walks away from her AGAIN about threw my kindle.
Yes, Christian does redeem himself to a point and does explain himself, for me it was too little too late. But hey that is just me.
So… about a quarter of the way in to Getting Her Back I had a feeling that I just was not going to vibe with it and I was not wrong. It’s not that the book was bad, I generally enjoy Penny Wylder, but I think that I prefer her novellas verses her full length novels. I think the story would have progressed better and been more well rounded if it had been told in dual first person POV instead of solely from Audrey’s POV. I know that that was done purposefully so that we wouldn’t know how Christian really felt about Audrey and why he actually walked away from their relationship the way that he did, but it only served to frustrate me – a) because what the heck, Christian?!?! and b) why the heck would Audrey go into this situation given their past. So I found myself compelled to finish the book because I just wanted to know why he left and what excuse he was going to offer that would make it okay for her to take him back (because obviously that was end game). I hung in for all of that and when we finally get it (in the last chapter of the book) it was largely unsatisfying. So meh. 2.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
Getting Her Back is a very sexy, sweet second chance romance described accurately in the book blurb. Christian and Audrey were the perfect couple three years ago and then he broke her heart. Tired of waiting for Mr. Right, Audrey decides hooking up with a stranger is her only option. Of course, the stranger turns out to be Christian. I think the book title gives a fair idea of Christian’s feelings but I felt really sorry for Audrey and didn’t blame her for trying to protect her heart by insisting they keep it business like. This steamy story is another very enjoyable read by Penny Wylder.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
Simple and predictable, but pleasant to read
I found that the story was predictable, but very well written with characters for whom I had empathy: Audrey, because she wants something and she does everything to have it, even if she have to see her former boyfriend whom she hates ; and him, Christian, who does everything to win back Audrey, the one he should not have left 3 years ago.
The beginning is a little surprising because Audrey decides to register on an application to find a sperm donor and have a child … when she finds the description of someone who interests her, she discovers, when the time comes, that is his ex who would be gone because he didn’t want a child, or get married. She refuses to let herself go with her feelings, but she still accepts relations (damn well described) to go to the end of her project. On the other hand, for Christian, it’s the way to maintain contact with Audrey and win her back despite what has happened before and for which he has never been able to explain himself.
The whole problem is, are they really ready to face this past?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
One of the best Penny Wylder books I’ve read so far. Loved the characters, they practically jump off the page and into your heart, along with this second chance romance that will heat up your kindle and set it on fire!
Christian and Audrey’s story is well written, sometimes touching, always sexy, with a full range of emotions and a few surprises tucked in that will keep you hooked until the last yummy image is turned. Who doesn’t love a satisfying ending which is what you’ll get when you read this book. It’s a nice length so you can actually read it in one night and go off to dreamland with a smile or two. Read and enjoy this new book. Recommend.
