Originally published as part of the USA Today bestselling anthology Eye Candy, Getting Down is a hilarious and hot short story set in the Shacking Up world. Now contains a never before published bonus scene! Ruby Scott’s favorite holiday is here, all she needs is a moderately good excuse to throw a party. With the help of her best friend Amalie–and Amalie’s fiance’s budget–the two of them throw … fiance’s budget–the two of them throw a Halloween-inspired fundraiser. But no event goes off without a couple hitches…

Snappy dialogue and antics of the sexual kind, keep the party going as the characters from SHACKING UP get together for a fund raiser….a Halloween fund raiser. A prick fiance, malfunctioning costumes due to a quickie in the closet and the bachelor auction with a bachelor exposing himself, keep the snickers and laughs going non-stop.
3.5 stars
Wow … reading this little novella is like experience a hot and cold shower. While Ruby’s and Bane’s chapters will leave you all hot and bothered, whereas Amalie’s and Amstrong’s chapters are like balloon loosing its air.
Getting Down is the perfect book to bridge between Shacking Up (Ruby’s story) and Hooking Up (Amalie’s story). It’s nice to be back again with Ruby and Bane and getting some heads up and hints on what to expect with Amalie’s story.
Be prepared to read mostly some very hot and steamy scenes from Ruby’s POV and get really frustrated by reading Amalie’s POV. You start to question, why she really is going to marry this guy, there is no chemistry at all. But hey, don’t get me wrong, there is some really hot and sparkling chemistry popping up, but not where you expect them. 😉
Now I’m looking forward reading Hooking Up!
OMG, this novella is so funny, hot and sexy! This novella comes after Shacking Up (Ruby and Bancroft) and before Hooking Up (Amelia and Lexington) and it is great to finally read about the infamous Halloween party that Lexington participated in the bachelor auction and what everyone got to see!
Ruby and Amelia ends up planning a benefit Halloween party funded by Armstrong, Amelia’s fiance. We get to find out what’s been happening with Ruby and Bancroft after Shacking Up and what they have been up to. It sounds like their sex live is still going hot and heavy and sexy. We get to read about Amelia and her relationship with Armstrong and what is going through her mind with the lack of an adventurous sex life with Armstrong. We also get to read a little bit about Lexington and what he is like. All this leads up to the Halloween party and the craziness that ensues at the party (some of Amelia’s ex boyfirends shows up for the party, zipper malfunction with Ruby and Bane’s costumes and the reasons behind the mail function, and Lexington’s walk down the aisle for the bachelor’s auction and what he shows the audience).
I’ve read the Shacking Up and Hooking Up before this one and I really enjoy reading about the infamous Halloween party. Hoping for more about these characters!
I absolutely LOVE the characters in Helena Hunting books.. Well except for one! I hate Armstrong more and more with each book he is in.
Regarding this book though. Once again I love your books I think these are just amazing. I love how this book was from Amie and Ruby’s perspective only though. Ruby is super funny and Amie just won my heart again, because I feel so bad the way she is treated. After knowing how Bane is described in appearance I was very shocked how he was insecure, but it made him seem more genuine.
I love Bane & Ruby and especially Halloween time with how much Ruby loves dressing up and Bane loves undressing her. This short story was sexy and hot and I absolutely can’t get enough of Bane & Ruby. I’m intrigued by Lex and so hoping that Amie drops Armstrong and hooks up with Lex because their seems to be a connection there. Always love reading about my fav characters and what they have been up too.
Who wouldn’t want more Ruby and Bane? Ferret, socks, and all.
Bane could be a whiner at times, “well, they need to go. They’re obstructing my ability to rub my huge, hard ***k against your ***,” he complains.” I loved seeing Bane and the gang again.
This was a great add to this wonderful series. I truly enjoyed it. It was funny, sexy and witty. I definitely recommend this book, this author and this series.
Audio review from 2018
Helena Hunting never dissapoints for sure!
This was a short story set between Shaking Up and Hooking up.
The premise is a charity party and all he shenanigans that happen.
I LOVED THIS!! It’s so funny! Ruby and Bane being their silly selves! We get to see more of Amelie and her current man.
Worth every minute spent on this one!
This novella takes place between the end of the first book and the beginning of the second, making it book 1.5 in the series. It’s not critical to have read these in order but I promise this is a fantastic primer that should definitely be read before Hooking Up. This novella sets it up perfectly and although I enjoyed the book very much, I think I would’ve enjoyed it even more had I read this one first.
We get to see how Ruby and Bane are doing in the near future and get to enjoy the shenanigans as Ruby and Amalie throw a big party for a charity event. We get to know Lexington, Armstrong and Amalie better which helps set up future books. There were also some jokes in Amalie’s story that were funny enough, but having read Getting Down, they’re now much funnier and have a bigger impact on her story. One thing that really stands out here is that the dual POV is Ruby and Amy, not a heroine and a hero as usual, but it works very well here.
Ruby and Bane are happy and hot as ever. Amalie’s preparing to marry Armstrong and gain a monster-in-law. There are a couple of incidents that take place here make her story a lot more fun to read. We also get more of Lexington, Bane’s seemingly irresponsible brother who caused him a lot of headaches on their last business trip and that was fun because his story is next. It’s a funny story with a lot of heat in some parts and buckets of cold water in others, but it’s a fantastic lead in to the second book so worth every minute.
The was a fun and steamy novella of Ruby, Bane and Amie. I loved seeing more of these characters (minis Armstrong who I still hate) especially planning a fun Halloween party. There were many laugh out load moments and a lot of steamy, sexy scenes. Great short story.
this is such a fun little novella. I laughed so hard, especially when Amalie’s ex showed up. The craziness he spewed was priceless. Being able to see inside of Amelie and Ruby’s friendship was so fun. They are like sisters that actually get along, and that just understand each other. This was short, sweet, sexy and funny.
Loved this book by Helena Hunting!! I’ve already read Ruby & Amalie’s full books so of course I had to read this. It was a funny, entertaining short story with wonderful characters except for Armstrong. I recommend it along with the other books in the series.
I liked the Halloween extravaganza party, and getting to read about Ruby, Bane and Amie (with a little of Lex and Armstrong thrown in there). It was fun to be able to read a little bit more of their stories. This timeframe is between book 1 and 2… But it still could be read as a stand-alone if you wanted something cute and sexy.
More Bane & Ruby? Yes, please! Getting Down revisits Bane & Ruby, but also sets up what is about to go down in Hooking Up. This is a tasty little treat to wet your appetite for the next book in the series. Hunting never disappoints or cheats us with her words and I thank her for that!
This was a great Halloween romance! Ruby is dying to have a Halloween fundraiser since it’s her favorite holiday of the year and with the help of her best friend, Amalie, and her fiancé’s bank account they throw the perfect one. Nothing ever seems to go smooth for Ruby, and the fundraiser has many shenanigans and steamy scenes. This was my first book in the Shaking Up world and I really enjoyed it and the characters! I loved Ruby and Bane’s personalities and the chemistry that they have. I also really liked Amalie and Ruby’s friendship. This book had a great balance of mystery, romance, humor, and wonderful characters!
I first read this novella in the Eye Candy anthology. It’s a nice peek into Ruby and Bane’s life after Shacking up and Amelia and Lex before Hooking Up. These two couples are my fave even though Amelia and Lex haven’t gotten together yet. This book is in true Helena fashion as their are plenty of laugh out loud moments and still has the sexiness we expect. If you’ve read both Ruby and Amelia’s story this novella is a must read. You see into the infamous Halloween party that will have you smiling throughout the book!!
I loved that we get Amalie’s POV here. This is a great bridge between Shacking Up and Hooking Up! The foreshadowing is delicious and as much as I anticipate a bit of heartbreak and drama in Amalie’s future, I know it’ll be worth it for her HEA. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
So Freakin Funny and OMG so so Hot such a Fun Read..
