Loved this sexy romance! Hot hot hot
Elijah is the absolute PERFECT hero–honorable, sexy, and completely clueless when it comes to affairs of the heart. Watching him fall head-over-heels for Addison was such fun!
This book absolutely wrecked me, in the best possible way. It moves between being a light, fun, sexy AF romp, into a black moment that had me reaching for the tissue box, before it brings the reader back to a more-than-satisfying HEA.
Awesome read!!! Love Tessa Bailey!!
I love ALL of Tessa’s books, and this one is no different. A sassy heroine with a chip on her shoulder and kind-hearted mayor/jilted groom with a glorious badonk was just what the doctor ordered!
Wonderful romance!
These days, I needed a more lighthearted election story so I thought I’d give this one a try. It’s a wonderful story with delightful characters and plenty of the distracting escapism that I was looking for. I loved Elijah’s dirty side coming out, and I really enjoyed Addison’s sense of humor.
I love Tessa Bailey ALWAYS, but I think this is one of my absolute favorites. I loved this opposites attract story. I loved both Addison and Elijah has to be one of the best book boyfriends ever. I adored the story and of course it was a steamy ready which the author always perfects.
Audiobook Review
Overall 3.5-4 stars
Performance 3 stars
Story 4 stars
This was a funny and REALLY sexy friends to lovers romance. I both read and listened to this one (more on that later) and I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author.
The instalust is pretty strong in this one, but I liked that even with the unconventional meet cute, the characters then had time to get to know each other. Addison and Elijah were so sweet together and I loved seeing their friendship grow. They could just be themselves without worrying about their pasts or obligations. I do wish there had been more communication overall, but I understand that their hesitation mainly came from a good place. I had been told that Tessa Bailey was the queen of dirty talk, but I was not prepared for the heat in this one! Elijah and Addison nearly melted my earbuds/kindle. I’m a big fan of the dirty boyscout and Elijah definitely delivered.
I actually think I would have enjoyed this one more if I had only read it. Joe Hempel and Lori Prince were ok, but I think the casting could have been better. Elijah sounded too mild mannered and I think I needed a more gruff voice to make his dirty talk more believable. Addison’s baby talk and “sexy” voice during the steamy scenes was off putting and I actually ended up reading those scenes because it was so cringey listening to the audio. The overacting and emphatic narration was just too much. Overall, I liked this one, but I think it’s better to skip the audio.
I completely enjoyed this story! I was laughing, I was squirming, and every once in a while, I teared up. It had it all and was an awesome opposites attract. Addison and Elijah are not meant to interact, they aren’t even meant to meet, but once they do, and the circumstances under which it occurs, connects them in a way that cannot be severed. Not that they want to be apart, but they easily fall into being the others best friend, denying and ignoring, the passion between them. It all explodes in a wonderful moment, but they aren’t being honest. Being comfortable takes precedence over communicating, and we all know that doesn’t end well. The implosive had me sobbing, but the climax to get it all back had me cheering. These two finally get their well deserved HEA!
Having read the series backwards, I knew Naomi’s motivation and reasoning, and I actually loved her even more after reading this story. Elijah was used to just going with the flow and good things happened to him. Addison, like Naomi, had to take charge of her life to make things happen. Naomi was the catalyst, the reason for all of this, she was the first one to step up and say “I deserve to be loved for me”. If you read this series is order, you’ll see what I mean when you read Runaway Girl.
I listened to the audiobook version of this, and let me tell you, the sexy talk from Addison is so spot on, you need to get the audiobook to hear it. The narrator nailed it and it is most definitely sex in your ears!!!
I really enjoyed this book. The audiobook however is not one I would recommend. The male narrators voice is fine (not great, but it did the job) but the female narration was whiny and did a baby voice which totally took me out the story and made me cringe.
That said, this was still a great friends to lover story and it was funny, steamy and everything I want and need from someone who’s quickly becoming a favourite author.
Addison is back in Charleston. She left a few years ago and hasn’t been back. Her cousin is getting married though and Addison is bold enough to drop by the wedding – just to see the reaction from her estranged relatives.
Elijah is set to be the future mayor of Charleston. His father occupied the seat and now he is a natural shoo in. He’s planned the perfect wedding with his perfect fiancee. Only his fiancee stands him up at the alter. When he gets a chance to getaway from his failed nuptials Addison is in the car waiting to go.
What starts off as two people who hardly know each other turns in to so much more. I loved the easiness that Elijah and Addison have one another. They give each other shit, but also look out for one another. That kind of easy chemistry was evident from the moment these two met each other.
In typical Tessa Bailey fashion – she brought the heat and had the pages sizzling! The intimacy between Elijah and Addison was so real. I felt every push and pull of their relationship. They weren’t always perfect and didn’t always see eye to eye, but the love between them was so evident. Bailey sure does know how to write the sweetest heroes who are part alpha and part cinnamon roll and Elijah was all of those thing. I loved the sweet nicknames Elijah had for Addison and Addison’s obsession with Elijah’s butt was hilarious.
I can’t believe it took me so long to pick up Getaway Girl. If you have this book on your shelf or are even remotely thinking of reading it – grab your copy now! I can’t wait to read Naomi’s story next.
Why did I wait so long to read this? I adored this book and couldn’t get enough of Addison and Elijah. It takes place in the south and I was living for all southern sayings from Elijah. These two had amazing chemistry and their romance made me smile so damn much! My cheeks are still hurting while I’m typing this review.
The next book is about Naomi and I’m curious to see what her story will entail.
Getaway Girl is a spectacular story.
It’s the very best of the smutty romance genre, and it’s something as unusual as a read that literally has you enthralled by the very first pages.
This read is a perfect combination of angsty romance, wit, smut and familial conflict. There’s the snarky heroine, the super-hung heart-throb and the meddling, nasty people trying to separate the two lovers.
One aspect of this story that really spoke to me, was the fact that Addison and Elijah are friends first. They don’t jump each others bones at the first opportunity. The genuinely like each other and crave the other’s company. Their friendship is beautifully rendered which makes for a natural – and more plausible – maturation of their feelings.
Also. Getaway Girl is funny. So funny. A twitter account for Elijah’s badonk! Awesome! And that the descriptions of said bodypart was delicious didn’t hurt any either. They were so very… graphic. If I had to rate the juicy, smutty bits in this story, they would get a solid eight. On a five-star scale. They were that good.
So basically, Getaway Girl is the ultimate contemporary romance. Once I started in on it, I couldn’t put it down. I’ve read Bailey’s work before, but this is by far the best one!

One of my favourite books! It has everything you’re looking for — humour, chemistry, angst, passion, and especially a bold female lead! You can read this book from cover to cover without stopping. It’s just that good.
Summary: After living away for 6 years, Addison Potts lands up back in Charleston at her estranged cousin’s wedding where the bride doesn’t show. Having an instant connection with the groom, she ends up sensing that he needs a getaway girl. And voila! that’s what she becomes. Falling deep and hard for each other Addison and the town’s favourite, Elijah Du Pont end up living together, helping each other grow. Elijah facing an upcoming election, while Addison faces her insecurities, they try to fight for each other not willing to give each other up, despite of the hurdles. Making up to be one of the sweetest loves stories I have come across.
What I loved about this book:
I absolutely loved the budding friendship turned romance angle for Elijah and Addison! I think their chemistry was highlighted even more as the author @tessabaileyisanauthor chose to complete their relationship arc, taking us on the journey with the two characters. And boy, do we fall in love.
I absolutely loved the humour. I cannot believe how much I smirked at Addison’s quirky responses and resilient attititude. She did not let me down.
I also loved that there was a certain level of angst in this book to balance out the humour. Despite of showing confidence, Addison was a very vulnerable person, and I loved how through Elijah, we got to see her insecurities, and how he adored them. I think the two characters completed each other.
Lastly, I LOVED Elijah and the way he took care of Addison but also, how he wanted to abandon all the norms just to be with Addison, despite of having worked hard all his life.
Their chemistry in this book was ON FIRE.
What I wished there could have been more of:
There were parts in this book where I thought that the hurdles were a little redundant. ie; when Addison chooses to live in Elijah’s house without him, that part left me confused. But that’s it. I wouldn’t change another thing about this book. It was truly one of my favourites.
I love the lead change up with the female being the alpha talker. The narrator Lori Prince was somewhat annoying (especially at the baby talk lines). But I loved how unique this story was with the characters.
wow …. THIS story!
So I read Runaway Girl the other day and realized that I had this book on my kindle but never got to it so I *ran* to read as soon as I could!
Two thing:
1. The story of these two people is one of the most beautiful love at first sight – best friends to lovers story I have read in a very long time!
2. I read these out of order and it felt right. It was like reading a #duetbutnotreally LOL and I think if there are any of you out there who have not read this book, wait and read Runaway Girl first #TRUST (do with that info as you please).
Okay, three things …. 3. Tessa Bailey writes phenomenal sex script #JESUS
I’m feeling giddy…and it’s not just the wine talking
Tick all my boxes and call me a happy camper, I friggin LOVED Getaway Girl.
Sorry peoples, this is not going to be a long review because…WINE!!! Yes, it’s Saturday night, and I’m treating myself to a glass of wine.
So, this is the kind of book where I get everything I want when I read a contemporary romance. There are highs and lows that took me from giddy grins to tears pouring out of my eyes. These characters, this storyline and the emotions I felt were everything.
I absolutely loved that Elijah and Addison had to work for their happy ever after. We meet Addison straight after losing her Grandmother and Elijah waiting at the altar for a bride who never shows. This bride also happens to be Addison’s cousin. When Elijah’s realises that his plans have gone awry, he jumps at the chance to escape the circus of his near-nuptials. Addison becomes his Getaway Girl…
Holy Friggin Shamoly…Tessa Bailey really knows how to bring out the HEAT!! I think even poor Elijah didn’t realise he could be this HOT!! Seriously, you could buy this book for the sexy talk alone. I’m HOT just thinking about it.
Ok, plenty of highs but there are some lows. Poor Addison has “issues”. Poor Addison is the daughter of a homewrecker and tainted by the sins of her mother. With Elijah being the squeaky-clean Captain, becoming Mayor, Addison is definitely not good for his image. Unfortunately, one of the saddest parts of the story was at the hands of Elijah’s mother thinking she was doing the right thing for his campaign. I SERIOUSLY wanted to reach into my book and slap the woman senseless. Shouldn’t her son’s happiness be more important? Anyways, all good in the end, but I was two seconds away from calling in for reinforcements (hugs from hubby) because I didn’t like where things were heading.
Seriously, I think this is one of my favourite contemporary romances this year. Who knows maybe it’s hormones, or WINE, but honestly, I think it’s just Tessa Bailey getting it RIGHT.
If you love LOVE, and you haven’t read this book yet…DO IT!!
Getaway Girl was a fun, sweet, (super) sexy friends to lovers story. A fun twist on the runaway bride story where we get the POV of the groom who was left standing at the altar.
“When he’s around me, I don’t seem capable of anything but praying he can’t hear my heartbeat.”
Getaway Girl had not only a dirty talking hero (my kryptonite) but also a heroine who could hold her own in a dirty talk throw down!! Addison is sassy and snarky. I definitely wanted the best for her and rooted for her to get her HEA.
“I understand Mama now. I’m not mad at her anymore, but I’m… I want to be better than her. I don’t want to be someone’s regret.”
A light angst, really enjoyable story. I listened to some of it on audiobook and it helped make my commute enjoyable!
-5 Stars!-
I’ve been a huge Tessa Bailey fun from the very beginning. She’s an auto buy author for me. Getaway Girl is another hit for Tessa.
Addison and Elijah’s chemistry is off the charts from the very beginning. Addison is my favorite kind of heroine. She’s strong, a little mean and a dirty talker. I loved how Elijah had a sort of sexual awakening when he realized that before Addison, his sex life was boring. Addison allowed him to dump the polite gentleman in the bedroom and bring out his inner beast. It was HOT! Another great addition to my Tessa Bailey collection. And that cover?? AMAZING!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the third major character in the book: @DuPontBadonk. Trust me. Read it. You won’t regret it.
First time reading Tessa Bailey’s work. The storyline is not only political power, family struggles, father-son, mother inferences, sibling rivalry, it’s love at first sight. Who doesn’t love a good love story?
