this story of Johnny and June lived up to that of the original ones.
Johnny ran away to get away from the smothering family that he was dealing with. now he is just doing his job as a police officer, and avoiding the calls fro his family. June is just seen as the child of the towns delinquents, that cant be anything else but like her parents in the eyes of the town. one traffic stop, and these two are brought face to face with one another.
these two dont have things easy for them. which would you expect anything less. not with Junes inability to be touched, and to Johnny’s anger and meddling ex. still these are just like their namesakes and fight for their love.
This book has become my new favorite. I just absolutely loved the story of Johnny and June. These two remind me so much of Johnnys parents Sebastian and Baylee, which is my favorite book.
Johnny and June meet when she gets pulled over by him and from there things just heat up between them. Johnny tries to stay away because he thinks he is broken but lucky for him June pushes his resistance to its breaking point. But there is an ex who is not happy seeing Johnny with someone new and starts popping up everywhere. There’s a twist in this story but you need to go read it to find out, sorry no spoilers here. But don’t worry it’s a great story so you won’t be disappointed!
Get You Some
Lani Lynn Vale
Simple man series #3
Tag line: complicated hot mess 2nd generation story
Lani continues with 2nd generation theme, this time from her Dixie Warden series, telling the story of Johnnie and June.
June was raised in Hostel, TX, is struggling to make a good life for herself in the small town that continues to turn their back on her, assuming she is no better than her parents.
Johnnie is a cop in the Hostel, not following his family’s desire for him to be fireman like his Dad in Kilgore, TX
He first meets June, pulling her over and issuing her not one but three tickets due to the attitude she throws.
June in desperate need for a job, randomly uses a phone number as a reference that happens to be Johnnie’s. She gets the job at the local salvage yard based on Johnnie’s ‘reference’ and thus begins a relationship that has features an attitude spewing heroine and hard working, take no prisoners cop.
Both June and Johnnie are young, in their 20’s and have some growing up to do. I do love reading about the 2nd generation, but miss the older characters that are more mature.
Pretty good book, started off a little slow. Had a few curve balls but ended out being a decent read.
Johnny a former military man and now a policeman, stops June who is speeding and gives her 3
tickets in the first minutes of meeting her. The story takes off with Johnny having issues with losing
his friend in combat and June having the worst jailbird, druggie parents. They are both in their 20s
and do not have a lot of goals or direction. the anti-heroine is the thorn in both June and Johnny’s
sides. It was too much drama made over issues that June had no control over and the fact that
she is a virgin has her first sex up against a wall outside a V A hall. Enough said that makes the
hero not a hero in my opinion.
Lani Lynn Vale certainly knows how to write an amazingly intriguing book, that takes a hold of you heart from the beginning and entertaining you till the end. I do not think Ms. Vale could write anything other than a fabulous book. Can you tell I’m a fan? She’s one of my go to authors, a definite one click when a new book comes out. If you are new to this author, take a chance, you will not be disappointed.
Johnny and June are spectacular together, they may have a bumpy and a little bit of a rocky road but it was fantastic to see them maneuver through it all. Two broken people finding one another and putting the broken pieces back together. I’m truly enjoying this series. Can’t wait for the next one.
So, I say this every review, but I feel it needs to be repeated, often it seems. This is a series, in fact this series is actually a spin-off. To really understand the characters and just get the whole warm fuzzy, loving these characters feeling, you should read from Boomtown on. Its just smarter to read it that way and way more fun. I fell in love with Johnny so many books ago, when he peed on the tomato plants and Sebastian had to yell at him not too. The story of Johnny and June, two people that really shouldn’t be together but somehow they are and they make it work. With some steamy sexy times, drama, danger, and of course the feeling of wanting to throat punch a character. I sat down to read, and when it ended I was not ready, I wanted more. I’m greedy like that! I give this 5 stars.
Johnny needed a break from his family, after coming home injured from the military they have been smothering him. Deciding to up and move to Hostel, Texas he is making the best of the situation. Then he meets June, well he pulls her over and gets her attitude. Johnny is not aware of June’s reputation, she is surly, mouthy, and the towns pariah. It wasn’t her doing, it was her useless parents but no one seems to get that. Johnny is interested, June is not sure what to make of Johnny but he is not going to relent when it comes to June because she is about to become his.
This was great. I like these stories that are a continuation of the characters children I enjoyed so much. Johnny is great, he is different then what I expected and I liked that. Loved June, she is a fighter and I admired her tenacity at being her. Can’t wait for what is next.
There is something about Reading a Lani Lynn Vale book all in one sitting. First off…the dialogue…is wicked funny and there is lots of it. Second….her characters are real. Like you would run into one of them when you are at the local diner or the grocery store. She whites characters what anyone can relate to. Johnny and June are no different.
Johnny is recently discharged from the Army due to an injury he received overseas. He’s loved by his family and community.
June is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She might be an angel but everyone knows how horrible her parents are so they lump her in with them too. No chances given to prove herself different .
To escape his overbearing and overly worried family Johnny moves to Hostel and gets a job on the police force.
June is just trying to get by. Nobody will give her a chance due to her families reputation and she’s at her wits end. Then she is pulled over by officer McHottie himself…..Johnny. And the rest….as they say….is history.
I read this book in one afternoon. Ms.Vale’s books are my guilty pleasure. As long as she keeps writing I’ll always keep reading them.

Johnny captured our hearts as a child in Sebastian & Baylee’s book, Lights to My Siren. Now, we have his HEA! Following a stint in the Army, from which he is sent home with an injury, Johnny is having some trouble finding his place. He is being smothered by his well meaning family. Just as it seems to be getting to be too much for him, a friend suggests that he makes a break for it, and move to her town, of Hostel, TX. He gets a job as a Police Officer in this small town. Then he meets her. The June to his Johnny!
June is a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Her childhood was horrible, the only bright spot being her grandfather. Her parents are of the worst kind, and their reputation follows her around town. Everyone thinks the worst of her, even if she did nothing to earn it.
These two are so great together. Despite all of the problems that they face, there doesn’t seem to be any going back for them. This story brings back some of our favorites from previous books, and has lots of twists and turns that I never saw coming! This is just another fabulous book by Lani Lynn Vale. I’m totally loving the kids stories, and just know they are going to keep getting better!
There is just something so special about Johnny and June
This is a difficult book for me to review, I should be complaining that it was too slow and not much happened, instead I really enjoyed this.
I totally adored both Johnny and June. Each of them has issues that they are working, or need to work, through. They make a fabulous couple and Johnny really is one of the best things to have ever happened to June. And boy does June need something good in her life.
There is a sub-plot involving Johnny and his ex Rosie, which was good and added several unexpected twists to the tale. I did feel the revelation/confrontation at the end was rushed, as was the story line for the Rosie/Roland character.
In some ways there wasn’t a great deal of plot. There is a chunk of book made of scenes between Johnny and June, which was fine as this really helped me believe in their relationship. This could have made the pace feel slow but the engaging writing style held my interest.
There are also scenes involving June and her parents. Whilst they were well written and allowed us to understand the type of people they were, I’m not sure how much they added to the overall story. In fact there were quite a few of these types of scenes, all of which were entertaining and gave depth to the characters but which didn’t really take the story anywhere.
The book had a very gentle feel to it, it has some wonderful touches of humour, excellent characters, a good pace and I read this in one day sitting. It didn’t batter my emotions but it did definitely stir them and very much left me with a warm feel-good glow.
Johnny and June….with these two names, you know the story is going to be good.
This was such a sweet story.
Johnny is struggling and trying to get back into everyday life after the war. He decided to move away from his overbearing parents and into Hostel to become a police officer. (if you have read Lani’s others books, this town will be familiar to you).
Then you have June. Poor June. She has a bad reputation because of her family. She is judged off things her parents did. I hate when people label other people based off their family. We don’t get to pick our family most of the time.
“That girl? She’s good as gold. She’s loyal. She’s beautiful. Smart and funny. But it’s hard for men to break in there with her. She’s been burned by every single man she’s met in her life but two—me and her pops, Tennessee. Trust me when I say, don’t go there unless you’re ready to stay there.”
Johnny and June don’t meet under the best circumstances and their second meeting isn’t any better. But for some reason Johnny automatically wants to protect June. He has this drawl to her.
“Mr. Good Intentions was gone. In his place was Mr. Get You Some.”
Neither one is ready for a relationship. Neither one wants a relationship. But sometimes you don’t get to choose what the heart wants.
Johnny stole my heart from the beginning and June broke my heart. They were two broken souls that needed each other.
“Like a goddamn breath of fresh air during a sandstorm in the middle of the Afghani desert.”
Of course in good Lani fashion, she had to throw something things in there to make your heart pound, but that’s what she does. She gets you invested into the story, scares you, makes you want to cry, and then smooths everything out…most of the time.
She know how to keep me on my toes.
Awesome job!!!
OMG. She’s back! Ok, so the author didn’t really go anywhere, but the last two books I read, in this series a matter of fact, well…they weren’t the best. I actually had a lot of issues with them. But this book was back on par. The secondary characters didn’t try and take over and the two minor scenes that Janie and Rafe were in, Janie was tolerable.
I loved watching June and Johnny become friends and then more than that. Johnny was so patient, making sure that June was comfortable with him and his touch.
I really hated the way June was treated by the townspeople. That town needs to be cleared out and done away with all the crappy people, and it’s FILLED with crappy people. I’m talking, a scene straight out of Carrie!
One thing that really bothered me in this book was June’s criminal past. Not that she had one, but that it was from when she was a minor and yet it was used against her. I get that it’s an uber small town, and people have long memories; and I don’t claim to be an expert on the law, but I would have thought that her juvenile record would be sealed and it couldn’t be used against her when it came to getting a job. Like I said, I’m not an expert.
Overall, I couldn’t put this book down. I found it much more enjoyable than the previous two books in this series and I can’t wait to read Coke’s book next!
“What did I do to deserve you?” she asked. I grinned and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “I think you’ve got it all wrong.” “Oh yeah?” she asked. I nodded. “Yeah, it’s not what you did to deserve me. It’s what I did to deserve you.”
There’s always something about Lani Lynn Vale’s stories that just click with me. It’s not that they’re always my favorite stories or the ones I gush and gush about, but I always always remember these stories and go back to them. In fact, I totally just bingeread Heroes of Dixie Warden MC, Dixie Warden Rejects MC, and Code 11-KPD SWAT, Kilgore Fire, Hail Raisers, and Uncertain Saints MC over my spring break! This story just gave me all the more reason to keep loving her writing.
It’s the characters that draw me in. They’re always flawed, make multiple mistakes, and in general just keep messing up. Sounds appealing, right? No, it sounds REAL. Beneath all these “flaws,” these characters have experienced life in a way that it has affected them for the future and it takes someone unique to break through and keep their heart safe. THESE are the stories I love to read.
This story gives us two characters who don’t seem meant for each other in any way — one that has been rejected by the town and another who can’t quite find their place in the community. Their first meeting is not a pleasant one, their second connection is not exactly pleasant, so why the heck would they see anything in each other?
I loved getting to know these two and I also truly enjoyed their story! Recommended!
Talk about Serendipity! An amazing love story just as epic as the original Johnny and June! The perfect pairing, there was no doubt they were meant to be, just look at their names! Awwww…
Can’t believe we are finally getting Johnny’s book! Can’t believe Sebastian’s little boy – from Lights to my Siren – is all grown up. And what grown up!
Johnny was never the same after his injury in the Army, so he thinks moving to Hostel, may be just what he needed. He just didn’t have any idea how much!
That is pretty clear though when the sassy and bit standoffish though innocent and sweet June falls, or better yet, speed into his lap. Her attitude and nature capture his attention immediately, and Fate then decides that can’t be the only encounter they can have.
June has a black cloud the size of Texas over her head, or should I say a lifetime of paying the consequences and being put in the same shoes of her horrible parents, like that wasn’t enough, a childhood of trauma caused by them, so she’s leery to let anyone close – literally and figuratively – but Johnny seems to be exception to that rule. Like it was truly fated in every way. They’re each others missing piece, really…
OMG… This man left me swooning and sighing so MANY times!!! Of course he had a couple of moments there I wanted to slap him upside his head – he’s a man, after all, lol – but overall I loved him, and the love and care he treated June from the get go. Johnny’s alpha protective nature (along with his possessiveness) were raised by tenfold around June, and oh boy was it panty and heart melting!
We could truly feel how captivated they were for one another. From the thoughts to the actions, their attraction, chemistry and growing love was palpable from the start and the way it organically developed along with the subplots, just proof of Ms. Vale’s brilliant writing. I specially like their devotion to each other from the get go, because all that build up, that sizzling touches they managed to seems slow burn, but so overcharged, made for one hell of explosive sexy times! Johnny expresses it perfectly! LOL
These two were so insanely HOT together, it’s a wonder my kindle didn’t overheat with them. Not only those times were incredible but also their down times, their developing complicity and friendship, true partnership.
June was such a complex and strong character! I ADORED her to no end and want to be be her BFF, along with Amanda! For someone that passed through hell already at such young age, she manages to overcome her fears and let Johnny – along with his family and friends – break her walls, and see just how worth it is to take the risk. She found love in more ways than one by opening herself up. And I couldn’t be happier for her!
If there is one book where the meaning and importance of true family is in this one. Having been really alone – apart from her gramps, Amanda and Tiny – all her life and never having a ‘real’ family, June saw for the first time the true meaning of family. Johnny as well and Sebastian, Baylee and Silas – it was SO GOOD to see them all again!!! – showed her just how important the ones that love you and stand by you truly are. Family is who our heart commands not the ones we are into.
These small life lessons are yet another reasons I love Lani Lynn Vale so much. She Lani Lynn Vale really is knocking it out of the park with this series! There is nothing simple about these SIMPLE MEN!!! They are the most deliciously complex there is and guaranteed to hook you from the start. Get You Some is another perfect example of it. Johnny and June’s love story was so beautifully written, so emotional, but yet so funny, and overall heart touching, it truly was just up to par with the ‘original’ Johnny and June. I couldn’t get enough of this two, and sincerely hope we get more of them in the upcoming book. That’s right, because with all the Coke teasing and part in this book, I’m now yet again COUNTING down the days until July 6th for Ain’t Doin’ It! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Another amazing read by Lani Lynn Vale I’m such a huge fan if she is new to you you definitely need to one click all of her stories and just binge read you wont regret it . I love series that lead to next gen was excited to see that the next one in the simple man series was going to be about Johnny he was first introduced as a little boy in Lights To My Siren book one from The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC series , really liked him as a hero and plus seeing little snippets of his fam just made me giddy plus I’m wondering if the author will write more about his fellow soldiers side note can’t wait to see what Lani does about his sister . Again like all of the authors characters I fell for the heroine June she is a spit fire , funny , sweet , and would do anything for the ones she holds dear . Ok June and Johnny LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE that the author put those names together it totally had me listing to some of their songs / wanting to re watch walk the line , the chemistry was electric they shared a funny banter while also sharing some off the charts sexy times scenes . There are many things I adore about the authors books the writing , story lines , characters , refreshing , seeing how some of the past characters are doing and future characters will be in upcoming stories .

Absolutely love this series. Love June and Johnny! June had a hard way to go with her parents and the town of judgy stuck ups. But she made the best of it for her grandpa. Johnny needed out from under his family and their meddling ways. A few tickets and a random phone number later and they can’t shake each other. And Rosie is insane!
Johnny: ex-military that gets a medical discharge when he is too close to an IED. June: parents are in and out of jail and drug addicts in a small town and she is guilty by association. These two couldn’t be more different, but they are perfect for each other. He has a temper and a tendency to fly off the handles, she just wants to blend into the background. Johnny is so careful and sweet with June it made my heart melt. He went at her pace with the relationship.
This book deals with heartache and tragedy. Both of them are just trying to survive the best way that they can. Another smashing success by Lani Lynn Vale. I can’t wait for her next book!!
With names like Johnny and June you know it’s gonna be good.
Johnny was the kid we all loved in Lights to My Siren; the kid who rode his dirt bike naked in yet another Dixie Wardens book. This kid was destined to be one hell of a Mackenzie and I was happy to read his book.
June had one hell of a crappy childhood and the people of Hostel are not very kind. She is smart determined and I gotta say is the perfect woman for Johnny.
The usual crazy ex is present to liven things up and we get to meet an interesting secondary character in Coke. Flowed well, interesting storyline and we get Sebastian and Silas fixes.
Johnny found his June
This is the third book in the Simple Man series. It is a stand alone, but we did first meet Johnny as a kid in the Freebirds series.
Johnny is Sebastian’s son. He is all grown up now.
He is trying to find himself after being discharged because of an injury. Sebastian and Bailey are hoovering. That’s why he ends up moving to Hostel. He’s now a cop.
June is basically hated by the entire town because of her parents. She is nothing like them. At all!
You’ll get a great story, some laughs, some steamy scenes, and a psycho ex with this read. You really can’t go wrong.
Lani is a must read for me.
I loved seeing Silas and Sebastian. I can’t wait for Coke’s book and I hope Roland gets a story too!
“It is not nice to bait traps with donut. Cops are needed to keep this city safe. So, if you happen to catch one, please remember that they need to be promptly released.” ~Hostel PD facebook page
“Look, we gotta stop acting like it’s not okay to call kids assholes. Sometimes, there’s nothing else to call them.” ~Sebastian to Johnny
