A well written great flow of characters and story line. Keep it up Erik Carter!
Special Agent Dale Conley and Deputy Marshal Hanna Yorke are on a case to apprehend the elusive Jonathan Fair through the streets of San Francisco. There are twists, turns, adventures, additional suspects and victims. Fast chases through the streets. The dark past of the families that still exist. Is Jonathan the bad guy or is he a victim of circumstances. Read this great thriller!
Good book and I enjoyed reading it. I got a free copy of the book and I will be reading another one by this author. Good story and well told. Thank you for allowing me to read it for free!
Erik Carter yields another great read with his main character Dale Conley! Action packed is an understatement. Twists and turns and definitely was a page turner. When El Vacio, assassin literally pops up, I was diving to the floor with the characters in the book as he goes off with his MAC10 fast speeding bullets leaving many many dead bodies on the floor, as Dale once again charges protects others and charges out the door to go chase yet another assassin. Really a good read and I HIGHLY recommend this book!! Well done Mr. Carter!!!
As I hadn’t read any of this series, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I needn’t have worried, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, although I suspect that I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read the previous books in the series as there wasn’t a lot of background on the main character, Dale Conley.
So, what did I like? Well the location descriptions were terrific, the characters were well written and developed (apart from Dale’s) and their interactions were believable; the plot was complex without being being completely opaque; the beginning of the book was very exciting and the dialogue was well handled.
However, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more about Dale, as there was a hint that he has a rather special talent for puzzle solving, which would have been fascinating and also there was reference to the ‘Bureau of Esoteric Investigations’ without any real explanation of what this is.
But I am nit-picking here, and I read the book in just two sessions as I was intrigued to see where the story was going to go.
I received an advance copy of the book from the author, but have voluntarily written this review.
“Where or where is Johnathan Fair?” Is on everyone’s lips. Johnathan Fair, an escaped mental hospital patient, with known multiple personality disorder, is free. Free as the wind, and about as destructive as an unbridled hurricane. He strikes various businesses, blowing up bank vaults and robbing establishments, and always leaving behind cryptic messages…..
It’s up to undercover federal agent Dale Comely and his partner Hanna Yorke to find and apprehend Johnathan. But even the best laid plans can go awry, as Dale and Hanna find themselves facing unexpected and perilous situations, with the assassin “El Vacio” peering from the darkness, waiting to make his move. Dale and Hana must meet all threats head on to win this deadly game of cat and mouse. Find Johnathan Fair, apprehend him, end his reign of destruction. Sounds reasonable, right? If only it were that easy….
Is Johnathan Fair the mastermind behind this rampage, or is he being used as a pawn by another; a malevolent presence that is barely sensed, but not clearly seen? Who is stalking whom in this tense, riveting thriller? Fast paced and action packed, your head will be spinning with the hair pin twists and convoluted turns of this book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review of same.
Erik Carter has a winning character in Dale Conley. Dale is a good investigator who works for Bureau of Esoteric Investigations. I know, it’s the first time you’ve ever heard of this organization. Dale is really good at research and history and he gets a gun and a badge to use when he’s chasing down the bad guys. As a protagonist he’s perfect. He’s charming, good looking, drives a Pantera and is self deprecating enough to fit in any where he goes.
I enjoyed the mystery and learning a bit of the history of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Being a psych nurse, I can say the author did a pretty good job portraying the character who has Multiple Personalit Disorder. There was just enough humor to keep the book from being too serious. I give the book a solid 4 star rating.
