Sexy, tattooed and inevitably dangerous. Memphis is all that and more…
I live for the pain; it’s what drives me to keep moving. But there comes a time when one has to push the demons aside in order to survive.
I thought I buried them deep. I thought I was ready to finally live. Until… my brother, Alex; he throws me into the fire—right into the place I could never control myself, the one place … myself, the one place I never want to be again.
When I put my hands on people, they get hurt. Things happen that bring me back to that night. The one that will forever torment me.
I’m doing fine, keeping to myself in order to ensure no one gets hurt by me. Then along comes Lyric, and all I want to do is touch her, to put my hands in places that I know will only lead to her being crushed by me.
She’s the rush that I crave. The darkest of poison running through my veins, killing me bit by bit; like a drug I can’t get enough of even though I’m almost down to my last breath.
And being around her only hurts more, but what she doesn’t understand is that I welcome the pain; I get off on it, which in the end leaves me with the hardest decision of my life—one that might get us all killed…
Author’s note Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. This is a stand-alone novel that will have more books with side characters that can all be read alone.

When Lyric see the man arrive next door, she’s exactly his type, but the next morning doesn’t go so well when he wakes her hammering his porch, and she decided that he woke her, and he can deal with her staying. The more she sees of him the more she knows he’s got something going on and he’s not going to push her away like he thinks, she wants to help him.
Then he meets Lyric who lives next door and pushes he’s buttons in the right way. Memphis warns her to stay away that all he does is hurt people, but Lyric keeps pushing and pushing.
Lyric pushes him and continues to push, until Memphis realises that he can be loved, and he does deserve love, and most of all he does deserve forgiveness and to be able to move on with his live free from the past and with the one he loves.
“I’m not scared of my feelings for you,” I whisper “What I’m scared of is not being close to you.” “This man has the most beautiful heart I know. I just wish he could see it . . .”
I’ve been wanting to read one of Ms Ashley’s books for some time, however it just hadn’t happened until now. This story’s message was a heartbreakingly beautiful reminder of the depth we will go to for our loved ones. Accepting and acknowledging that situations are not black and white, there are gray areas and often it takes looking at things from the perspective of others. I read this in one sitting because I needed to know the characters backstories. Memphis was easy to like and it was obvious that his guilt was eating away at him, whilst others didn’t blame him. Addicted to pain and scared he wouldn’t know when enough was enough. Lyric was a strong willed woman, who could hold her own and kept pushing him, but he pushed back and she knew her time with him was limited.
Whew! Memphis is HOT, dangerous, and mysterious! The perfect book boyfriend. Lyric was bada$$ and caring. I loved everything about this book. That twist at the end chills. Amazing read.

A little heartbroken at the sadness and struggles in Memphis and Lyric’s young lives. So glad for them to get a shot at a better life together.
Fairly well edited.
Memphis has had a tragic life. His father was abusive. His mother had breast cancer. And, in defending his younger brother, he found himself in prison for 6 years. He is left feeling as if everyone he lets close gets hurt. So, when he gets out of prison, he just wants to make sure his brother is safe and then go anywhere but his hometown. He doesn’t count on his feisty next door neighbor and her persistence in getting into his life. Lyric sees a young man in desperate need of a friend – even if he doesn’t admit it to himself. When Memphis finally catches up with his brother Alex, he finds that all is not well in Alex’s world. Alex has gotten mixed up with less than upstanding citizen, and is indebted to him. In order to pay off his debt, Alex has been participating in underground fights. Alex is in serious trouble, and Memphis is forced to step up in order to save his brother. Meanwhile, his relationship with Lyric has started to become more than friendship, despite his best efforts to remain distant. He tries to protect Lyric, refusing to tell her of the mess he has found himself in. Lyric has a few things she hasn’t been quite clear on. Eventually, what Memphis has held back collides with what Lyric hasn’t been clear about. Will they come out on the other side together? Will Memphis save his brother? Will Lyric save Mamphis? Will they take a chance on love?
This isn’t the first book I have read where the H finds himself behind bars for saving a life by accidentally taking a life. As before, I am left wondering where the adults were, and why more wasn’t done to help this young man. However, it is fiction, and the direction of the story was fed by the tragedy of Memphis’ youth, It was great to see Lyric not give up, no matter how many times Memphis tried to push her away. Finding the meaning behind him always sharing his coat was a really sweet moment. Enjoy!
