Skillful hands. A talented tongue. Meet Mr. May.Fate’s been messing with veteran Tyree Johnson. It took his buddies in combat and his wife in a fatal car accident. But he’ll be damned if he’ll let Fate take his beloved bar, The Fix on Sixth. For years, he’s avoided being Fate’s whipping boy through sheer force of will, and now every bit of his focus is centered on saving his business. Until, that … focus is centered on saving his business. Until, that is, the first woman who ever touched his heart walks back into his life—along with a daughter he never knew.
After years of loneliness, Tyree’s not prepared for the way Eva’s sensual curves and sharp wit still capture his heart and rekindle his senses. All he knows is that for the first time in forever, he’s found a passion other than his bar. But one final twist arrives when Fate pits the bar he can’t bear to lose against the woman who’s stolen his heart.
He’s a master at red-hot ecstasy.

I love on how Tyree and Eva relationship… Tyree had a full speed life and falling inlove wasnt in the agenda.. it is an easy read and J Kenner brought it with charm… sassy..sexy and fun 😉
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the steamy short novel Get It On: A Man Of The Month Novel book 5 by J. Kenner and this review was given freely.
A Poignant moving past grief and second chance at love story with wonderful characters, some steam, some humor and a happy ending. Starting two days prior to the Mr. April contest, Ex-Marine and The Fix on Sixth’s owner Tyree’s story involves the return of his first love and meeting the 23 year old daughter he never knew they had.
I love reading this book. It reminds me of unrequited love and the Parent Trap too. I love how Ava and Elena fits into Tyree and Eli’s lives. It’s like they belonged together. It’s just sad that’s it’s taken over Twenty Years and the lost of a loved one to bring it home. As we all know everything happens for a reason.
I enjoyed this series
In the fifth book in the Man of the Month series we meet Mr. May Tyree Johnson. Tyree has lost so much in his life and he is bound and determined not to lose his bar, The Fix on Sixth. With his mind being on his bar and newly found daughter and Eva a woman who is the one that got past his walls. A woman he never thought he would see again. Will Tyree choose the bar he loves or the woman that has captured his heart again. I love this series and every book shows me a new man of the month and the woman that capture their hearts. Great story about overcoming loss to find love. GREAT STORY!!!
The Man of the Month series wouldn’t be complete without including the man that started it all. Tyree is the owner of The Fix on Sixth and just as hot in his forties as any of his younger counterparts. His second chance romance with Eva just goes to show that time can’t erase what the heart really feels. Love these two!
Love Tyrees story!! Quick fun romantic story. This whole series is great!!
Tyree has had it tough he has lost friends and his wife but not willing to give up he stands up to fate, but is fate messing with him in another way? Not willing to lose his bar The Fix on Sixth he is determined to keep the one thing that means so much to him but fate throws another curve ball his way when a blast from his past shows up and that’s not all she has a kid vut is there something that Eva has been keeping from him?
Tyree and Eva’s second chance
I love second-chance romances because there’s always a history involving are main characters. Though Tyree Johnson and Eva Anderson’s chance for a future together was derailed, I love the fact these two mature individuals finally find their chance and the love is still as strong. Get It On is the fifth book in the Man of the month series, and I’m really enjoying how all the characters from the previous books mingle into the current stories and get a glimpse of how they are doing together. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Mr. May is all about The Fix on Sixth’s bar owner, Tyree. Several years after his wife’s death, Tyree still grieves for the love of his life, Teiko. Rather than just write a story about a man who finds a woman to help him move forward with his life, J Kenner goes much deeper with showing us more of the emotional issues Tyree struggles with in his romantic relationships. In a sense, I’m not sure if the romantic trope in this story is about second chance love or a love triangle of sorts. As a reader, I appreciated the author exploring how tough it is to deal with losing your spouse, finding a balance to honor the memory while also trying to move forward. Can’t wait to glimpse how Tyree and Eva’s renewed relationship grows as the series progresses!
Another great book… I think I love the current Man of the Month… then BOOM here comes another amazing man… Tyree just spoke to me… he’s had a long journey… it was great to read he is going to have a happy ending! Keep them coming Ms Kenner!
I was provided a copy of this book so that I could leave an honest review.
Man of the month continues. Another great read. This series leaves me wanting more. I love how each book is a standalone, but to get the full feel of the series, one should read them all. I love seeing bits and pieces of past and future men of the month. Can’t wait for Mr June.
Great job!!!
Each month these books get better and better. This is book 5 and it was simply so heartwarming, touching me to my core. Such a sweet, emotional story. Truly loved it. As always, I cant pin point which I like because every month each book out does the last.
This Tyree and Eva story. A 2nd chance love story. After spending years apart, Tyree and Eva find themselves back to where it ll began. Both were separated and never given the chance at their love. A bond kept them together even if one of them didn’t know of this bond.
This story blew me away. it was so sweet. so touching. But I found it to be soft for a J Kenner book, but man it was perfect. everything. they story line, the characters.
A sweet and beautifully written contemporary romance…
First off, I need to say that I have loved every single book in the Man of the Month series so far. I was really looking forward to Tyree’s story and to seeing more of his son Elijah. I liked the little peek we had at their relationship in Down On Me, book #1. Personally I feel like this story didn’t quite do it for me. The writing was brilliant as always, but in terms of the exacting and passionate follow through there was just something missing. At first I thought it was just my expectations, but after a second read I realised that considering the whole series so far has had an erotic element to it Get It On lacked on that front. I mean, it was kind of there but but just as the thread was about to go through the eye of the needle it got jolted and missed the target. I don’t believe that a story needs sex in order to be great, or even good, but in this case because of how the others in the series used the sexual chemistry element to build on the physical attraction and pull between the characters I felt like it was needed. Older people have sex. It’s life.
As far as the plot goes I thought it was good, but again there was always that hold back—mainly due to Tyree’s reluctance to move on. At times it felt awkward because he is still so clearly in love with his deceased wife, and in those moments I actually feel that you understand the lack of physical involvement. However, this is a romance and for someone that wants to start something with Eva, his first sweetheart, I feel that he is actually not ready to get it on (pun intended). He feels somewhat emotionally unavailable when it comes to getting himself back out there and starting a relationship with another woman. So, personally this rendered the romance somewhat lack lustre for me. I liked that the save the bar plot weaved flawlessly through the “romance”, in fact it seems that if anything Julie has proved that her writing is exceptional.
As for the characters, they just didn’t do it for me. Like I said before Tyree didn’t seem ready to let go of the past and move forwards. I thought he dealt brilliantly with Elena, the daughter he never knew he had. In all honesty, it was satisfying that that whole thing didn’t get blown up to epic proportions. I wished we saw a lot more of Elijah and got a better inkling as to how he felt about his half-sister. In some ways for me the lack of Tyree and Eva’s intimacy could have been eclipsed by a deeper insight into the kids relationship. Eva was very sweet and soft. I wanted her to have more grit and more pushing power so that there was umph in terms of her making Tyree realise that the guilt he was feeling, although normal, was unfounded. I sound heartless, but the guilt was just too much for me. It was a constant throughout the story and it actually got in the way of getting to know Tyree better. I don’t feel like I know the real man beneath all the scars and hurt. I didn’t see much more to him than the small nibbles we’ve had in the other books.
I feel like Get It On is a dip in the series, however, I feel like it will suit a more reserved reader that doesn’t particularly care for the erotic element in the other books. The story itself is sweet and beautifully written and I would still say this book’s worth a read. It’s short and it is enjoyable, even if not memorable. The ending felt a little fast and sudden and there wasn’t a sense of closure on the grief or really the guilt front. Would I read this book again? No, I wouldn’t. But if you’re going to get the most out of the series I’d recommend you read it since there is development on the bar plot side of things and that story was very well executed.
All in all, despite my belligerence, it wasn’t a bad read. It is one of those that may not hit the spot for everyone but the majority will love. It’s on the shorter side, so you don’t have anything to lose by going into this book. I’d also say that if you have read the books leading up to it don’t go in with sky high expectations. I feel like that was part of the problem for me. I also cannot wait for the next book in the series, In Your Eyes, so I can’t have disliked Get It On that much. If it had been all that bad, I can guarantee that I would not be waiting for book #6 on tenterhooks like I am.
Book five is about Tyree the bar owner of The Fix. As he deals with saving his business from closing down . He also struggles every day with losing his beloved wife to a car accident. It has been seven years since her death. Will he ever find closure and finally decide to move on with his love life? Will his past love come back to save him?
I voluntarily received a ARC for an honest review.
Another amazing story by J. Kenner with book#5 in the Man of the Month series, “Get It On”. A true page turner….I was so enthralled… In Get It On, Tyree Johnson, the owner of the Fix on 6th bar is put to the test when he has a unexpected visitor show up to give him news that throws his world upside down…..Without a shadow of a doubt he embraces the news. Tyree so in love with his beloved wife cant seem to move on…..no matter how much desire and want he has to rekindle what he once had and move on. Little did he expect his past love to find her way back into his life. This story is filled with remorse, lust, desire, and love like no otherd & a trip down memory lane. .
Together with the chanting of his friends he is coerce into entering the May Man of the Month contest only to strut that well built upper body & win. While dealing with letting go of his past and wanting to rekindle a new romance with his former Eva…. Tyree is swept up with emotional feelings that take him through a roller coaster ride… You’ll have to read this one to fall in love with the totally sexy, ex military, hunk Tyree Johnson. He will not disappoint ladies.
Five stars for GET IT ON!
Get It On is book five in this series, but can be read as a standalone. Each book is about a particular couple, but if you want to get the whole feeling and follow the underlying story (saving The Fix on Sixth), then read them in order.
Get It on is Tyree’s book. He’s the owner of Fix on Sixth and is now relying on his friends and community to save the bar. As a man who’s been fate’s punching bag, dealing with the loss of something is nothing to Tyree. However, he’s not about to let this one go without a fight and he is putting his all into saving his bar. Then in walks Eva and his focus becomes shifted.
Eva and Tyree’s story could so easily have been one of those perfect slow burns, but alas, that was not the case with this one (in part because it’s told as part of short novella series). It was still enjoyable, but I just felt things were too rushed at times.
Julie, as always, writes amazing third person POV’s stories – she is one of the few authors that I do read who write in 3rd person. It’s extremely hard to right characters in 3rd person POV and allow the reader to still connect to the characters and the story but Julie does it flawlessly.
Eva had always thought that Tyree died in war and when these two are face to face again, the chemistry has changed on bit. But it’s Tyree’s war between his head and heart that cause a lot of problems in the moving forward. This is where I wished we had more to the story and the results played out in a slower motion – I just felt things were wrapped up to quickly and perfectly. As much as he was confused on things, he was able to sort them all out quickly with no problems.
Overall, it’s not my favorite in the series, but it was still a good read.
Get It On by J. Kenner is the fifth book in her new 12 book Man of the Month series. Told in dual POV this is where the owner of The Fix himself, Tyree, comes face to face with a past love and learns to open his heart again, not just with Eva but with their grown daughter that he only just found out existed.
Tyree is blindsided by the knowledge that he has a daughter with Eva – the woman who broke his heart before he met his wife. With Teiko gone the past few years he has never really moved past losing her and he and his son, Elijah, have grown closer and gone through so much together since her death. Learning about his daughter, Elena, was a shock, but a pleasant surprise. Seeing Eva after all these years, however, left him speechless.
Eva thought she had lost Tyree all those years ago and now that she knows the truth about the situation she is hesitant to make a move. Good thing for her and Tyree that their daughter, Elena, doesn’t mind putting wither of them in the hot seat at all. Showing up in Austin felt like a mistake until it didn’t and now she is willing to give his thing with them a chance. But is Tyree ready?
Well-written and well-paced, this was another great read and I’m excited with how each of the upcoming characters are gently weaved into the plots in earlier stories without being obtrusive to the current story. Enjoy!
So far there is not a single word to describe this series as each book just becomes more fun loving and engaging that makes a person just want to sit down and read it from cover to cover. This is Tyree’s story and boy is it a doozie. Tyree is a man who has been tested by the world. His wife was killed seven years ago and he is on the verge of losing his bar, “The Fix on Sixth,” if he is unable to come up with the funds to pay off the mortgage. While working at the bar, a woman enters that bears a striking resemblance to the woman he loved as a young man. As he cannot be sure, he puts it out of his mind until the woman shows up again and claims that she is his daughter. As if needing confirmation, the woman of his past comes barreling in to stop the big reveal only to realize she is too late. How will Tyree react when he sees his former love Eva, the mother of his child? Can he move past the memories of his late wife? How will Tyree’s son deal with the information that he has a sister? Will Eva be able to have the life that she was denied so long ago? This is one book to one click and start reading asap and readers have the next man of the month book to look forward to.
I volunteered to read an advanced copy of this book.
4 Getting That Second Chance Stars!
I’m really loving this series by Ms. Kenner. Their quick reads. But they’re definitely NOT lacking in steam and story. This is Tyree’s story and I’ve been itching for it since the beginning of the series. Tyree and Eva are getting a second chance when they never thought it would happen.
These two have been through so much that I was so happy when Eva showed up because this is a man that needs to find love again with everything that’s happening with his bar. And oh my goodness their heat is still burning on high flames!!!
What it all comes down to is that Ms. Kenner is writing stories that just keep building on each other and with each new book I fall more and more in love with The Fix and the strength of the friendship between all the guys and their ladies!
