“Absolutely charming… a flawless balance of humor, heat, sweetness, and depth, and I loved every page.” – Helen Hoang, USA Today bestselling author of The Bride TestUSA TODAY BESTSELLERA witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and … to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang!
Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle.
- Go camping.
- Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And… do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

I don’t often come across a romance with truly likeable characters, a heavy dose of emotional content, plenty of breezy banter, and a relationship displaying exactly how consent is supposed to be applied–and work–in building said relationship. Red is the perfect antidote to the traditional alpha male: he’s a big, strong, tattooed motorcycle-riding fix-it man who thinks in colors, feels people’s emotions, and takes care of people as well as the building he is superintendent of. Chloe, despite her many physical issues, is smart and determined and self-deprecating as she fends off her hovering family and tries to make an independent life. Their relationship is a delight to read as they strike a bargain to each use his/her skills to help the other with life goals. Steamy, yes; adult language, yes; laugh-out-loud funny, you bet, and oh so sweet.
Steamy and sweet, with complex characters that are so delightfully imperfect. Chloe and Redford clash their way to happy ever after. I love that this is own-voices, that Chloe struggles with fibromyalgia, that he’s an artist, and all the quirky side characters. No-one does sensual, sexy romantic comedy better than Talia Hibbert. Bring on the rest of the Brown Sisters! Can’t wait.
I’m on a serious binge reading ….um…binge of novels that were recommended to me when I put out a request for more books with plus sized heroines. And this book is one of my favs so far. It combines so much of what I love about England and the English dry humor/stiff upper lip thatI recall from living there for a few years, with the the raw sexiness of a guy who is both handyman and artist—it practically left me speechless with happiness
But what it actually did is make me believe in the power of love as something that heals. It’s a beautiful, funny, VERY sexy story that reads as part fairy tale, party reality check with its lively, more than a little dysfunctional family members and I cannot recommend it highly enough. What I seek in books like this is the acceptance of women who are not model slim or perfectly perfect in every way—not a fetish-ization of it either. And while some of the books I’ve read lately don’t measure up, this one does and throws in the extra reality of living with chronic pain and how that in no way should stop anyone from having sexual fantasies that lead directly to a most pleasant reality.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is an entertaining romance with, not so much quirky characters as, a quirky author with an entertaining way of telling a story. Chloe is in her mid-twenties, lives with her family, has a small trust fund, is a tech guru, and has fibromyalgia, which makes her totally miserable. After a close call with a careening automobile, Chloe decides it is time for her to grow up and get her own life. She starts, the way she always starts, by making a list. Next she accomplishes the next thing on her list, which is to move out. As it happens she selects an apartment house with a superintendent, Redford Morgan, who annoyed her. To be truthful, most everything annoyed her as her disease left her very short tempered. Red was annoyed by Chloe as well, but intrigued. Chloe looked out her living room window only to discover Red painting, on a canvas, with not shirt on. This view soon became one of her favorite pastimes, until he noticed her. One thing led to another and soon they were “seeing” each other.
Not to disparage fibromyalgia, but when Chloe got involved, with from having something else to focus on, or seeing herself through someone else’s eyes, the symptoms seemed to lessen. The Same for Red, whose “disease” had been misplaced guilt and a lack of self-confidence. Both seemed to dissipate as he spent time with Chloe. This was really a pretty average story with pretty average people, but the way it was told made it extraordinary. It is truly difficult to describe why. When I began reading I thought is was just another author trying to write a quirky character, which is difficult. It took a while for me to realize that it was the writing that was quirky, not the character. It was fun to read, fun to grow with Chloe and Red, fun to explore the growth of each of them within the relationship. I loved it. I want you to read it and love it, too.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Netgalley. All opinions contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #getalifechloebrown
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is an excellent contemporary romance that is the first book in a new series: The Brown Sisters.
I really enjoyed this novel. It was witty, romance, banter, and definitely chemistry. The author did a great job balancing between light-heartened humor and dialogue and serious undertones. I really enjoyed the main characters: Chloe Brown and Redford Morgan. Both were imperfect but that makes them both realistic, likable, and relatable. There was clearly chemistry and heat radiating off the pages at times. I also enjoyed their respective transformations as the novel unfolded.
I really liked this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book that focusses on Dani.
5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and Avon/William Morrow and Custom for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR, Bookbub, Amazon, and B&N accounts immediately.
Loved this book so much. I love how Chloe wasn’t perfect and Red loved her regardless — no excuses, he just loved her for who she was. Made my heart happy. And omg, I actually laughed out loud reading this, it was so funny. Clever, funny, sweet and hot! Can’t wait to read more by Talia!
I thought this book was pretty good. I have it 4 stars because parts were slow and the language. It was fun to see Chloe expand her horizons and start getting out more. I loved the characters in this book. I would recommend this book but be warned of the language.
I’ve been sitting on Get a Life, Chloe Brown for a while, saving it for the perfect “break glass in case of emergency” situation. I had high, high hopes for it, since I’d previously read “Merry Inkmas” and “Mating the Huntress” by Talia Hibbert, and could 100% tell from those titles that I would love everything this author wrote. (Still eagerly hoping for that huntress series btw!)
Well, my book emergency moment came up a couple of weeks ago, so I dove into Get a Life without an ounce of regret. I’d read all the rave reviews – and I thought I was ready. I thought I knew what to expect. Escape was mine!
I wasn’t ready, guys. I wasn’t. In Chloe Brown, Ms. Hibbert’s incredible voice is exactly as I remembered it – wry and dry and so, so witty. Her character development is as terrific as always, with lots of emotional heft and really believable personal evolution for Chloe and Red, both separately and together. You’ll love both of them from the very beginning, and you’ll love them together.
The writing is tight, the scenes flow, the steam is perfection, and the pages seem to turn themselves. I hated for this book to end.
Here’s the part that I did not expect, though. I’d known going in that Chloe has a chronic illness, but I had no idea how the treatment of her fibromyalgia would impact me. Everything Ms. Hibbert wrote — from the way Chloe copes with her symptoms, to the way other people deal with her, to the defense mechanisms she develops to avoid being hurt — resonated with me on a deep and personal level. While I do not have the same illness that Chloe suffers from, I have other “invisible” conditions that manifest in similar ways…and when I tell you I felt seen, and represented, in a way I never have before, it’s the truth. Ms. Hibbert doesn’t flinch away from the realities, but she handles them with a gentle, sensitive touch that hits me right in the feels. *That* is the beautiful magic the author worked with this book, that is the part that rocked my world, and that is the part I will carry with me long after I’ve finished this series.
Highly recommend.
Get a Life, Chloe Beown by Talia Hibbert
Contemporary romantic comedy.
Chloe wants to live her life instead of acting as if she is dying. So she makes a list of goals such as moving out, riding a motorcycle and having meaningless sex. Chloe moves into an apartment on her own and soon focuses on the building handyman to help her with her list.
Quite a bit of good humor through the first half of the book. Lots of lusty behavior in the second part of the book.
“grumpiness was high on her list of hobbies”
It’s not often you hear about Imposter Syndrome in a romance novel.
I liked the hero for his observation skills and his intuitive reactions to Chloe in pain.
Entertaining, amusing and a successful story of a woman living with the pain of Fibromyalgia.
I enjoyed this story. It’s not often you read a contemporary, interacial romance novel, set in the UK with a heroine who struggles with chronic health issues. Hibbert’s writing stlye is creative and unique. The story puilled me.
Get a Life Chloe Brown was everything I needed and more! It was so refreshing, witty, sexy, funny, and just hot, hot, hotttttttt. The writing was amazing and I could feel the words wrap around me, and I couldn’t stop laughing or smiling. Taliais simply wonderful and the way she weaved in both Red and Chloe’s pain was just genius! I did feel a little angsty in the end but I held on knowing it would all resolve and it did just as quirky, and witty as their entire relationship. I simply loved this book, OMG!
It was tedious with the same story line repeating itself over and over. The insecurities on both of their parts was aggravating.
This is just way too cute. Chloe Brown asks Redford Morgan to help her with a list of things she wants to accomplish. Nothing could go wrong, right?
For Chloe, her “Get a Life” list contains tasks that require small moments of bravery. The tasks would add up eventually and then she’d feel like she’d have stories to tell — she’d have a life. Red is dealing with baggage of his own but helping Chloe in exchange for a website for his art would jumpstart back his career, something he loved but stopped doing.
Red is so gentle and tender to Chloe, but not in the way that makes her feel fragile or anything. He never made her feel any less or like she isn’t capable of anything. He’s fully supportive of her trying to gain back some bravery by helping her with her “Get a Life” list.
Every time he did something for Chloe, it’s always with extra thought and consideration for her and her condition. It’s all so fucking sweet I swear, the things he does for her just melts my heart.
Their banter and Chloe’s adorableness got me grinning, I swooned at their moments, and my heart hurt for both Chloe and Red and what they had gone through before. I loved seeing them overcoming their struggles and finding their happy place with each other.
THE BEST DIALOGUE EVER! Chloe Brown is a handful, but Red is up to the challenge. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
P.S. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was amazing.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown might be one of the sweetest books I have read this year.
Chloe is so different from the typical heroines we tend to see in romance. She is quirky and sassy, but she is also so strong. I adored how well her chronic pains were handled in the book and how she is never depicted as a victim, but a fighter. Red’s reaction to her situation is also a big part to why I loved this story as much. Even though he is there to care for her when in needs, he never coddles her and lets her live the experiences she wants to while still being considerate of her pains.
At first, I really did not like Chloe and almost stopped reading because I felt like she was way too posh to be loveable, but then we understand that it is just her humour and that she is actually mocking that side of her life. While she comes from a wealthy background, she is self-sufficient and has a stable job in which she flourishes. Another part of Chloe that is so well portrayed in the book is her body. It is made clear from the beginning that she is curvy, but it is never put in a way that it could be an obstacle to her well-being or her relationship with Red. He loves her like she is, not even noting her curves other than when he explains how sexy she is. The love story was very smooth and low drama, I just loved how they gradually became more and more important for each other.
This book is super funny and sweet, but I’m still not giving it five stars because I think the book could have been even better, while it was already pretty amazing. I felt like there was some key moments in the romance missing (him painting her naked would have been nice, says the little perverse demon in my head), while others had an importance greater than it should have been. Moreover, I didn’t really like the audiobook and might have enjoyed it more if I had read it physically. Nonetheless, this is one of my favourite book of June and I can’t wait to read the second one!
The characters were fun, unpredictable, and the plot kept me guessing. It’s a little steamy so you may not want to share this one with your mom, but it is a fun read.
Reading this book felt like eating a delicious and decadent slice of cake. Chloe and Red are real characters with real problems, squishy hearts that desperately want to be loved, and a charming, flirtatious chemistry that hooked me from page one. Add in Chloe’s hilarious family, the hot sex, and the swooooony romnace, and I promise-promise-promise you’ll love this book. I can’t wait to read Dani’s story next!
I loved this book and found it to be positively charming with beautiful, relatable characters. There wasn’t ever a time when I thought, “why on earth are they doing that?” It was well-written and flowed smoothly. And the romance! Yum! I also can’t recall reading any book where the characters have kissed so well and for so long! I actually felt the hearts and flowers fluttering all around Chloe & Red.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading sister Dani’s book!
Because of chronic illness and a near death experience, Chloe Brown has made a “get a life” bucket list. But she’s not sure how to accomplish most of them. Enter building superintendent Red Morgan. Too sexy for anyone’s good.
I really liked this book. It dealt with physical disabilities in a clear, upfront way, and both characters had issues in the past that made them distrustful of relationships. They gradually fall in love, but then their pasts rear up and require dealing with. The problems aren’t all immediately solved, but they commit to helping each other work thru them and support them. Like real life.
I listened to the audio book, and really liked the narrator, Adjoa Andoh. I see Dani’s book has a different narrator.
I will read sister Dani’s book soon, and sister Eve’s book comes out in March 2021.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown was a charming sweet read. Talia Hibbert is a new author to me. I look forward to reading more of this series!!
