“Absolutely charming… a flawless balance of humor, heat, sweetness, and depth, and I loved every page.” – Helen Hoang, USA Today bestselling author of The Bride TestUSA TODAY BESTSELLERA witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and … to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang!
Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle.
- Go camping.
- Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And… do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

Love love love love! Highly recommend I was laughing until I had tears prickle my eyes and the steamy scenes did not disappoint. The whole book did not disappoint!
If you like a good romance, this whole series is wonderful. I’ve read quite a few of Talia’s books now and they’re all great!
Humor and feelings for the soul. Buy the audio.
The most delicious book I have ever heard. Love it with a passion, it is so good in every way. First off, that author is a miracle. A true talent with words, sentences and the whole story. Can not wait to read more by her. Secondly, I want that narrator to adopt me. Love that voice. To the author, thank you for that humor, thank you for that vulnerability, thank you for this story and thank you for choosing that narrator. You are an absolute perfection! My first book by this author and now I have a new “go-to” book for my dream shelf.. Can not tolerate the thought of missing out on this gift that is above perfection.. To all the other readers, just give her a try. You won´t be disappointed. This story is everything you didn´t know you needed for your soul. You can not ask the narrator to adopt you however, she is mine.
I thought it was boring .
I listened to this audiobook and loved this sweet and authentic story. Chloe lives with fibromyalgia and is challenging herself to truly live and “get a life” as the title suggests. I loved her direct manner #nofilter even though she really is trying her best to do and say the right thing. Red is a hot reclusive artist hiding, not in a castle or even in a posh apartment, but as a handyman of an apartment complex Chloe happens to be living in.
.
They help each other learn how to feel again, coming out of their own versions of solitude to find an entire world blossoming around them.
Thank you to author who obviously understands chronic illness. It meant the world to be seen and understood.
It’s a testament to Hibbert’s great character development to note how quickly I was invested in both Chloe and Red. I listened to the audiobook (fantastic narration) while walking and probably had a silly smile stuck on my face as I experienced these two fumble their way toward love. Some incredibly tender moments, as well as an enjoyable measure of steam – the book was a delightful experience and I am already downloading the audiobook of the next Brown sister book to listen to as well!
3/5 Steam Rating
There’s nothing that I enjoy more than seeing character representation in books, that we often don’t get to see. This is one of those books!
What I Enjoyed:
I think a lot of people can connect with Chloe’s character. She has some major RBF but deep down, she does care
Not only is Chloe a black woman, she’s also plus sized and lives with an unseen chronic illness.
I loved the portrayal of an interracial couple; this is something I don’t see often in books but see often in life! It’s about time that love is shown in all forms.
I love that both characters overcome their obstacles once they learn to lean on one another
The steam level was fun, it was just enough to keep the storyline interesting but it wasn’t too raunchy (for those that don’t like full steam)
If you’re looking for a romance with some unique representation, the Brown Sisters series is a great place to start!
Loved this book so hard! You root and feel for both main characters! I absolutely devoured it!
Love the series. I am waiting to read the last book but love all the Brown sisters
I adore this book. Talia Hibbert’s playful writing style is always a delight and her characters so easy to fall in love with. Charmingly grumpy Chloe and absolute sweetheart Red had fabulous chemistry, and Chloe’s off-beat family made this book an absolute page-turner for me. I’ll be immediately grabbing Dani and Eve’s books. LOVE.
I adored this book. The characters are amazing, and the story was something very fresh and new. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a rom com, but there is much more to it than something fluffy and light. Difficult topics like chronic illness and anxiety are handled perfectly by this very talented author, and the hero is one all of us could instantly fall in love with. We all need a little Chloe Brown in our lives! Get your copy of this lovely book and jump into her world right now.
Laugh out loud fun, finely-wrought emotions, complex, likeable characters, and hot (hot…SO HOT) sexy scenes…reading this book felt like winning the lottery. I loved every single page. I was especially appreciative of a main character with a chronic, life-changing condition, and watching her journey toward not just falling in love, but learning to navigate her life and emotions. One of my favorite reads of the year!
I’m so glad I read this. I loved the banter, the cute characters, the sweetness of Red Morgan. Can I please have a Red Morgan?
A lot of the reviews docked Talia Hibbert for the steamy sex scenes and crude words. I say, bring it on! The prose was delightful, and the hot sex scenes between Red and Chloe were perfect.
This was sweet and spicy—the perfect combination.
This is a sweet love story about two people with trust issues. While I loved Red from the start, despite having problems believing he was as good as he was, I had a hard time warming up to Chloe. I did come to like her a bit better as the book progressed, but I can’t say that she’s my favorite.
Chloe Brown, a Black woman, has issues: health, physical, social, trust, self-confidence, and others. She comes to the realization that she doesn’t have much of a life, that she needs to find one. That inspires her to leave her family’s home and move to her own flat, on her own. Given her health issues, that’s a major decision, but move she does. Her sisters, Eve and Dani, keep an eye on her and make sure she has food and support. Her grandmother is willing to offer advice whenever needed.
Red, the superintendent of the building where Chloe lives, a Caucasian man, is also an artist. His former girlfriend left him wounded and wary. But he’s a good man, a caring man, who makes sure that his diabetic mother is doing well. That caring and concern also draws him to Chloe.
Chloe is incredibly sarcastic; it’s a defense mechanism. But Red sees through it. Once the two of them get past the basic trust issues, Red agrees to help Chloe find that life she’s looking for. He agrees to help her tick items off of her bucket list. Along the way, they fall in love. Of course, there will be rocky spots in that relationship, but they persevere.
”Life hurts,” he said fiercely. “It’s unavoidable. But I know the difference between torture and growing pains.”
Red and Chloe, with help from family and friends, work through the growing pains. In the process, the find each other, and Red finds his way back to his career.
A nice book. I enjoyed it; although, I wasn’t very fond of Chloe and had a hard time believing that Red was all that he was. I liked Chloe’s sisters and grandmother very much.
This is the first book in a series. It’s followed by Take a Hint, Dani Brown and Act Your Age, Eve Brown. I don’t know that I’m excited to read these two books, but I’m not saying I won’t.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. I thank them for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
I usually don’t read romance books*, but as soon as I heard the third book in this series has autism rep, I started reading immediately! And honestly, I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Both the main character and the love interest are such well developed characters, there is so much more to both of them than just their relationship and I really love that.
I could also relate so much to Chloe, the way her disability has affected her social life and mental health really reminds me of how my disability has affected me. Even though Chloe and I don’t have the disabilities, it felt good to see the social and mental aspect represented. A lot of books with disability rep only focus on only the struggle the disability itself gives, like fatigue or needing a cane to walk, but not on the struggles outside that. It felt amazing to it on page as it made me feel a little less alone.
I would really recommend this book and this series, even if you are not the biggest fan of romance. The representation and depth of the characters is super enjoyable and very well written and really drives this story. I really love it.
*As I am aspec, I don’t always relate fully or at all to romantic/sexual plots, taking away from my enjoyment. I am usually fine when it’s a subplot and there is more happening around it, but just romance often doesn’t work for me. The reason I decided to try out this series is because I want to read the third book for the autism rep, and I heard great things about this series from others as it has other types of rep, including disabilities, which I don’t see too often.
Eye-opening!
I knew nothing about the invisible chronic disease Chloe Brown suffers from, so I loved the education I received by reading this book!
Chloe is determined to get a life. To live a life that matters. And Red is just the man to help her out! Super steamy, super emotional, wonderfully written and narrated. Loved it!
5 STARS
I was apparently the LAST person on Goodreads to read GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN by Talia Hibbert, despite the fact that approximately 1000 of my reader friends recommended it. All I can tell you is I WISH I HAD READ IT EARLIER because it was so awesome.
When things go badly in her life, Chloe makes a list, and a plan to get her life back on track. This was what hooked me from page one, because as you guys know, my superpower and my kryptonite both are my un-shaking belief that there is no problem, challenge, or crappy life situation that can’t be handled with a well thought out to-do list and enough colored markers. (#boozyplannerorama)
Chloe’s plan, as many good ones do, includes having meaningless, spectacular sex; getting drunk; and doing something “bad” with the help of a hot, tattooed, handyman-slash-artist named Red. This seems like a good plan to me.
This story was hilarious, it was steamy, and it had some really delightful jump-off-the-page-and-hang-out-in-your-living-room characters. Highly recommended.
I will be burning through the rest of the series as fast as my little fingers can turn those pages. READ THIS BOOK, it’s fantastic.
this book is really good it helped me get back to romance genre
This is a soft porn book parading as a romantic novel. Awful. Had to stop reading 1/3 of the way in.
