“Absolutely charming… a flawless balance of humor, heat, sweetness, and depth, and I loved every page.” – Helen Hoang, USA Today bestselling author of The Bride TestUSA TODAY BESTSELLERA witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and … to help her experience new things—perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang!
Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle.
- Go camping.
- Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And… do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

Absolutely charming. Get a Life, Chloe Brown is a flawless balance of humor, heat, sweetness, and depth, and I loved every page.
THIS BOOK.
It’s been so long since I’ve spent an entire book giggling. The banter between Chloe and Red is some of the best I’ve ever read. This book is equal parts funny, steamy and liable to pull on all your heartstrings. Red is that premier book boyfriend material, and Chloe is so strong and witty and reclaiming her life bit by bit. I love love LOVED this romance!
I received an ARC of GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN, and I expected great things from it because, 1) It’s written by Talia Hibbert; 2) A chronically ill heroine–a first for me–who is also a computer geek; 3) a tatted, artist hero, and; 4)It’s written by Talia Hibbert. So yes, I went into this book with very high expectations… And this book exceeded all of them.
Chloe Brown suffers a “my life just flashed before my eyes and I’m boring as hell” moment as a car just misses crashing into her on one of her daily walks. Though she is chronically ill and suffers from the pain of Fibromyalgia, she’s determined to live her best life. So being the highly organized, anal geek that she is, she makes a Get A Life, Chloe Brown list. First up, she moves out of the mansion of her loving but hovering family and into her own apartment. There she meets the building’s big, tatted, hot superintendent, Redford “Red” Morgan.
Red took the job as superintendent of his best friend’s building because he’s in the middle of figuring out how to get his own life and art career back on track after it all flamed out once he finally left an abusive relationship with a spoiled, connected wealthy woman. It’s not a bad job, but he keeps bumping into Chloe Brown, the new tenant who reminds him of his ex with her haughty, rich girl, posh mannerisms and attitude. Only thing is he’s so damn hot for Chloe. From her blue-framed glasses, to her beautiful eyes and ornate, gorgeous face and the thick body with its lush curves–he wants her. Bad. And he could kick himself for it. Because hadn’t he learned his lesson already about how women like her viewed rough, poor, unsophisticated men like him?
The rescue of a cat from a tree sparks an uneasy truce, an agreement of Red helping Chloe tick off the items on her list, and eventually a friendship between the two. Though the undercurrents of need always hums between them–especially when he catches her spying on him painting half-naked), both have their reasons for being wary. Red has been there and done that. Chloe has, too–she once had an active social life, friends and a fiancee who all eventually abandoned her, and not always kindly, because of her illness. Aside from her family (I LOVED her sisters and grandmother!), she doesn’t let anyone in and definitely refuses to rely on them. But Red infiltrates those barriers, and they are left having to decide if love is worth the pain of loving and being vulnerable again.
This book. THIS BOOK!! Talia Hibbert has a way of writing the funniest, most charming and flawed characters. And in this book, she takes it to the next level. Through Chloe, we’re given a glimpse into the lives of those who suffer from Fibromyalgia. It’s an important element to Chloe because this disease once hobbled her life, but now she manages it, and refuses to let it limit her. It made her one of the most unique characters I’ve ever read, and she will definitely be one of the most memorable. Red is one of the most lovable heroes I’ve read. He’s patient, kind, talented, wounded and so giving. The two of them together are adorable, hilarious, exciting, passionate and wonderful. They were the very solid foundation of this book, but the cast of secondary characters were the decorative, beautiful, fanciful support system. I absolutely loved them–especially the women. Just WOW. Women from several walks of life who were all strong, loving, independent and successful. This book was a serious lesson in Girl Power. *raising a fist*
GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN was a lovely, whimsical, funny but starkly emotional book. The writing itself–I highlighted so many sentences, pieces of dialogue and phrases that made me press my hand to my chest and really wish I’d written it. Just beautiful. It tickled my funny bone even as it pulled on the toughest strings of my heart. Talia Hibbert outdid herself with this one. And I am already waiting impatiently for Dani’s book! I’ve thought before that Talia Hibbert can do no wrong when it comes to her books. GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN confirmed that belief.
Loved this sweet. hilarious book that has all that I love: diversity, family, two unforgettable and likeable characters, and lots still to overcome! My first Talia Hibbert book, but it won’t be my last!
I had an absolutely fabulous time reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown. It is just so freaking good! From the start, I felt a connection with the heroine, and felt warm and fuzzy for the wonderful, kind hero. The introverted web-designer and extroverted artist made the perfect opposites-attract couple, and the way they saw each other with clarity and empathy was truly beautiful.
Then the words. Oh, all the words were so well-written, engaging, and funny! It sucked me in and held me their till the end. If you want a little warmth, romance, laughter, and sexy-times in your book, this one should be one your MUST READ pile.
Thank you Talia Hibbert for this gift. It made me smile for days even after I’d finished the book.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown was probably my favorite contemporary romance for 2019. The prickly (for good reason) heroine and sexy cinnamon roll hero were so great for each other. It was a beautiful, messy, funny, heartbreaking, fun read. LOVED. And now I’m all in for the series. Can’t wait for more from Talia Hibbert!
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert was clever, sweet, sexy, and brilliant. It made me cry but in the best ways. Seeing a heroine with a similar disease to my own fall in love and be happy was everything.
Cheers for buttons and hot book boyfriends. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for everything that it is: funny, steamy, swoony, honest, and beautiful. I love Chloe with her deadpan sarcasm, buttons, notebooks, pinkie-swears, and lists. And then there’s Red… holy macaroni, he’s brooding, sweet, cooks, does dishes, and knows the importance of twinkle lights. Anytime a man can make “women wet with a bit of hyper-sexy hand-holding a few times a week,” you know it’s the good stuff. Cannot wait for Dani’s story! Please give Red a few appearances (insert groveling).
OMG!!! This is the first novel I have listened to or read by Talia Hibbert. Prior to this novel I knew nothing about her. This Texas girl figured this was a USA contemporary romance. When the narrator began with a non-American voice, I thought “Okay.” I went with the flow of the novel and I am so in love with this author! She did a wonderful job of writing this novel and the narrator did a great job of reading. I did think Chloe’s voice sounded like Dame Judi Dench on occasion, but it did not distract me from this super funny and romantic story.
Talia Hibbert’s “Get a Life, Chloe Brown” was absolutely delightful, and I adored it. For a book that deals with such serious subjects as chronic illness and abusive relationships, I found it to be remarkably light, upbeat, and funny. It is a very compelling read, and it was difficult for me to put it down.
My favorite part of this book was the banter between main characters Chloe and Red. At times, they bickered like an old married couple, which was super cute and very amusing. I really enjoyed their texting and the hilarious email exchange in the middle of the book as well.
Chloe and Red were both wonderful lead characters. Chloe was smart, strong, and independent even in the face of adversity. I loved that she recognized the importance of self-care and did whatever was necessary for her to feel better, even if it wasn’t always exactly what her doctors or others thought she should be doing. Red, who was such a sweet, caring, and genuinely nice guy, was a great match for Chloe, and it makes me sad to think of someone like his ex-girlfriend Pippa treating him so awfully. I really appreciated that he admitted he needed help and sought counseling to deal with the baggage from his past relationship so that he would have a strong foundation on which to build his new relationship with Chloe.
The book’s secondary characters were also a lot of fun, especially Chloe’s sisters Dani and Eve. I look forward to reading their stories as soon as they are released!

Pure Perfection!
Relatable heroine
Swoon worthy hero
Exploration of health, wellness, and ableism
Exploration of toxic relationships
All of the above handled with care, humor, and love
Chloe Brown stole my heart from the start and Red Morgan gave it back with so much satisfaction due to his love and support of Chloe. This was one of those rare books where I sped through the first 3/4 of the book and couldn’t put it down but then purposely slowed down for the last 1/4 because I didn’t want it to end!
I am absolutely enameled of Talia Hibbert and can’t wait for more!!!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
With wit, biting humour and moments of extreme poignancy, Talia Hibbert brings to life a heroine whose courage and tenacity leaps off the page… Get A Life, Chloe Brown is funny, sexy, and intensely romantic, highly recommended for any contemporary romance reader, but especially for the many of us who, like Chloe, navigate life through the lens and under the weight of an invisible illness.
A pure exuberant delight. I loved this book… It’s also hilarious — Chloe in particular has a gloriously sardonic perception of the world — and it bounces along, and it will just make you feel better. Exactly what a romance should be.
While I adore the cover of Get a Life, Chloe Brown, I have to say it is a little deceiving. It makes you think you are about to read a light and fluffy RomCom, when in reality, what you get is something far greater. This book was an enlightened emotional roller-coaster that was smart and snarky with its humor and whimsical in its refinement of the reader.
In Get a Life, Chloe Brown, Chloe has determined that her life has become tedious. In order to combat a boring future, Chloe makes a sort of bucket list of things she feels she needs to do in order to prove that she indeed can be delightful and interesting. Unfortunately, Chloe’s illness prevents her from accomplishing many of the items on the list without major help.
Fairly recently independent Chloe enlists the help of Red, her neighbor who is an artist and also the superintendent of her building. Unbeknownst to each other, Chloe and Red each find the other attractive, but they have somehow gotten off on the wrong foot. Red thinks that Chloe is condescending and uppity and Chloe finds Red grumpy and boorish. As they make their way through Chloe’s list, they open up to each other and begin to see things that were previously hidden to them.
I enjoyed watching Chloe try new things as her sexy neighbor learns that what he saw as Chloe’s snobbish and rude behavior is really her enduring pain and coping with the way her body has turned against her. Chloe begins to peel back Red’s layers of baggage and finds his past has left him altered and only Red can determine if the changes are for the good.
This book was a fabulous insight into an illness I previously knew very little about as well as an entertaining story with romance that made my toes tingle.
“Bravery wasn’t an identity so much as a choice.”
This book. THIS BOOK. *happy sigh* This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2019, so when the lovely people at Avon Books asked if I’d like a copy for consideration, I jumped at the chance (literally jumped – it was part of my happy dance). I’ll admit I wanted to read it even before reading the synopsis. I mean, look at the cover. So many of us are used to seeing thin white women and white couples, so that adorable plus-size woman of colour caught my interest immediately. Then I read the synopsis and knew I had to have this book in my life.
And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. Because not only do we have a heroine who’s a curvy black woman, we have a heroine who’s dealing with chronic illness. I honestly didn’t know much about fibromyalgia or what all it encompassed, but I learned so much, and I loved the way it was incorporated into the story. Chloe was a sassy, sarcastic badass who had been dealt a crappy hand and was doing her best to keep going, despite being in constant pain and having a myriad of other symptoms. Red – sexy, sweet, thoughtful Red – was the first person to really see through her shields and not only appreciate her wit and sass, but also see who she really was underneath the walls she’d put up to protect herself.
I loved Chloe and Red separately and together. They were two flawed people who sometimes do and say the wrong thing and mess up spectacularly but who are ultimately willing to overcome the obstacles life throws at them because they work so well together. Their banter was hilarious, their chemistry was off the charts, and the sexytime scenes were scorching hot. I loved the way serious subjects were handled, from chronic illness, to therapy, to emotional abuse. I also absolutely loved the fact we had a plus-size heroine who never once mentioned dieting or losing weight or feeling less-than in any way because of her size, and a hero who loved all her luscious curves.
There’s just so much to love about this book. I was laughing from the first page and pretty much giggled and grinned my way through the book. There were serious moments too – Chloe’s illness was no joke – and there were moments, especially toward the end, that had me tearing up. I could seriously go on and on, but since I can’t, I’ll just say that if you enjoy hilarious, sexy, emotional stories with real, relatable characters, you need to read Get a Life, Chloe Brown. A massive thank-you to Talia Hibbert for writing this incredible book and to Avon for sending me a copy.
I’ve enjoyed this book a couple of times already, but now that I have a chronic illness I absolutely feel seen! Talia Hibbert takes amazing care of Chloe and Red. Their story is emotional, lovely, heart wrenching, real, and truly wonderful. I absolutely love them, and I know I will read their story many times.
Get A Life, Chloe Brown was recommended to me by my editor and right from the get-go I fell in love. It’s tight, carefully crafted, nuanced, and real. It is laugh out loud funny, breaks off tiny pieces of your heart, and it makes you all hot and bothered. Reading it was an absolute joy.
Chloe Brown is in constant pain with chronic fibromyalgia and lives as a bad tempered recluse. After a near-death experience she decides that she needs to get a life, so writes out a list of everything she needs to do to feel like she’s achieved this goal. Helping her on this quest is ‘Red’ Morgan, the superintendent of her building and tortured artist with his own demons.
Get A Life, Chloe Brown spoke to me on so many levels. I have many friends with fibromyalgia, and see their daily battle to be taken seriously and get the help they need. On a personal level, I’ve always struggled with fatigue and was finally diagnosed with an auto-immune thyroid disease in my thirties. The way Talia describes Chloe’s pain is so real and engaging that I believe every reader will have a greater understanding of what it is like to live with pain and exhaustion.
The book was also funny without trying to be. The writing and humour was absolutely effortless and so cleverly done. The way the relationship developed between Chloe and Red was carefully crafted, subtle and joyous, I just loved it. Plus there were some funny parallels with my book, Highland Games, which you can try and spot when Highland Games is released!
An original & endearing romcom with quirky, lovable characters.
A cute read. Will definitely keep you entertained. A must Read. I enjoyed from beginning to end.
I listened to the audiobook on a 10 hour road trip. I loved Chloe and Red but I also felt like there was no way these people could be real (at least Red). I don’t know if it was because of the way I’ve seen people deal with chronic pain, maybe? I also don’t even pretend like the other romance book characters are real, so I don’t know why this bothered me or why I had higher expectations. I really did appreciate having diversity in the books and the overall story was so sweet, with witty dry humor. I also really loved the narrator! I’ve already reserved the next book from the local library!
