While attending the funeral of a former Wall Street colleague, Matt Hawkins is confronted by the sister of the deceased. Kate is adamant that her brother did not commit suicide, as the police claim—he was murdered. She believes he had stumbled upon a subversive plot to corner the world gold market. But before he could blow the whistle, he was pushed in front of a New York City subway train.Matt … train.
Matt and Kate’s search for the truth leads them back in time to a series of seemingly unrelated historical events—from a vast gold deposit first discovered by Indian warrior Geronimo; to a puzzling cover-up by President Theodore Roosevelt; to a secret society with its roots in one of America’s oldest universities. As they connect the dots from past to present, they are determined to get to the bottom of the gold conspiracy. But to succeed, they must contend with a powerful alliance of adversaries intent on finishing the financial war they started.

Ted Richardson – Matt Hawkins Series Bk 3 – Geronimo’s Gold – Reviewed 9/22/19 – Read 9/17/19
Gold, Geronimo, Teddy Roosevelt and again the past to the present…
Matt Hawkins is at an old college friends funeral when his sister approaches him and tells him that she knows that her brother was murdered. The police told her that he committed suicide but she does not believe it for one minute. She thinks that he found something really bad at work and that it got him killed before he could figure it out. Matt agrees to look into the matter and together they search to find the reason and to find her brothers murderer. While working on it they come across information that goes back to a hidden event that President Theodore Roosevelt did not want to be revealed. Somehow it ties into the past of Geronimo and a secret group linked to one of the oldest universities in America. At that, they find that the past once again is tied to the present!
What did I like? This series is so interesting as the author is weaving these remarkable stories that link the past historical events to his storyline. Many of the characters are historical figures that make you wonder if this was possible, could this have happened, Nah it’s just a story or is it?
@ddeegott What will you like? Amazing characters that shine and some that don’t, historical events shown in an entirely different aspect than what we know, along with mystery and intrigue. The author’s great imagination brings the past alive in his wonderful storyline with the intense action and mystery. With his creative descriptions, you feel the intensity of the times and the pressure and emotions of the action. The corruption of the political past, present and possibly the future is all in the conspiracy that they have uncovered. Feel the emotional pressure as they discover and possibly stop the destabilization of the entire world and destroying the US as we know it.

“Matt knew there was no such thing as a fair trade-off. There never would be. There are only decisions and actions. And noble causes.”

In this third outing – my favorite of the three by a decent measure, which is saying something – Matt finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy after the inexplicable death of an old friend. The conspiracy takes the reader on a journey through time and topic, covering such seemingly unrelated (but really incredibly intertwined) events as Geronimo’s childhood and imprisonment, Teddy Roosevelt’s second term decisions about fiscal policy and land management, and modern-day Wall Street investment banking and the gold in Fort Knox.
These books never fail to satisfy. The protagonist is a fascinating character in and of himself. He’s surrounded by an excellent supporting cast that adds color, drama, and the type of snappy interactions you only find among old friends. The history is always presented with a dash of elan, and the shifts back-and-forth to solve the historical as well as contemporary mystery are handled smoothly and keep the reader engaged in all aspects of the story.
