A forgotten cold case. A long dead teenager. A detective that can’t let go.
Every cop has an unsolved case they can’t let go. Georgina Harrison was mine. I can’t tell you why… Maybe it was because she was just a teenager, sweet sixteen, that it stuck in my craw. Maybe it was the sight of… you don’t want to know. Maybe it was because I was still a rookie when I accompanied Harry Starke to the … Harry Starke to the crime scene that God awful day. Maybe it was all of those things, but try as I might to move on, I couldn’t. And every year on September twenty-third the memory of that crime scene came flooding back to haunt me. And every year I opened the case file, flipped through it, and then closed it again. This time though…

A haunting tale of cases unsolved
Kate, a Detective for the fair city of Chattanooga, hopes to reopen the one case that has haunted her for years. As the story progresses a new team member is added, the rabbit hole in the case grows deeper, and solving this one might just require a magician before time runs out. Blair Howard’s Georgina is a haunting tale of cases unsolved. Telling the tale of a teenager’s murder, the beliefs that follow certain events, the lengths people will go to, and the ticking of the proverbial clock to close a case; I highly recommend this book and author to any lover of crime dramas.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. This is another great story in the Kate Gazzara series and Mr. Howard does his normal awesome job of telling it. My only problem is that I’m running out of words to say how great it is. I feel like I’m just repeating myself. I’m sure it’s because all of the books are the same high-quality work Mr. Howard consistently turns out.
Having said the above, I have to admit that the tone of Georgina felt different than the others; not bad, just different. I couldn’t figure it out at first but after thinking about it for a while I put it down to two things. First, Kate is dealing with an old case that has haunted her for years. It has always eaten at her that the case was never closed and that fact is apparent in how she approaches the case this time around. Second, she is having to adjust to a new team member who seems to attract trouble like honey does flies, and quite often through no fault of his own. The fact that he is replacing Lenny, a close team member, is just salt in an open wound. I think these two facts contributed to my feeling of a different tone to this story. And change can be a good thing.
I must admit to being a bit perturbed when the killer was revealed. I felt like it literally came out of left field. Mr. Howard obviously had information the reader couldn’t possibly have and so had no way of figuring out who the bad guy was or even having a clue. Then I realized that in police work, quite often that’s the way it works. Detectives follow leads and someone who was never on their radar suddenly becomes a prime suspect. So hats off, Mr. Howard. Great job.
Another exciting police procedural story in the Lt. Gazzara series. A15 yr old cold case gets full attention with all the emotional drama and action we’ve come to expect. You won’t be able to stop reading until the very end.
I have read all the books in the Kate Gazzara series and I have loved every one of them. In my opinion, Georgina, the 8th book in the series, is the best one yet! Reading these books in order will enhance your experience, but this one can certainly be read as a standalone.
Blair Howard is an excellent author and is able to spin a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat. In this book, he introduces a new detective to Kate’s team. Jack is hard to read, and I spent a good part of my time wondering if he would make it in this role. I have a feeling that there are more depths to discover in the future.
You know how some books are so good that you can’t wait to finish them and find out how they end, but then you wish you could pick the book up again and there would be more to the story? That’s how I feel about Georgina. You can’t go wrong with this one!
Captain Kate Gazzara reviews case files on the anniversary of a murder she and Harry Starke were unable to solve. The main suspects were minors at the time and could not be questioned without their parents being present. Kate gets permission from the Chief to reopen the case. This is another page turning thriller in this series. A surprise ending I did not see coming.
I especially enjoyed this book because it’s setting is in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where my husband was born and raised, and where we lived for about ten years. The descriptions of the areas were spot on. Combine that with a very intersting plot and story line and end up with a very good book.
Georgina (A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel Book 8), my sixteenth read from author Blair Howard and the eighth in the Lt. Kate Gazzara series. Well-written and enjoyable detective fiction, each book in the series seems better than the last. I look forward to the next book in this series when it’s published. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I was lucky enough to have gotten a ARC copy of this book. I am volunteering to leave this review. This book will have you jumping especially on a full moon.
Quite enjoyed this, my first book, in the Kate series. It was actually a bit eerie, but not so much to feel silly. So glad I read it, and will be reading 1-7 asap!
Kate has reopened a cold case from her early years, and it has turned out to be anything but cold. It started with a Blue Moon, will it finally end with one? She starts out having to welcome a new team member to replace Lennie. She is not sure anyone can replace him, let alone some guy on probation.
This is a well crafted story with a great cast of characters that have depth. I had a really hard time putting it down. I cannot wait for Kate’s next case.
Every cop has that one case that wasn’t solved and haunts them. This is Kate’s case. Every year she looks again to see if anything jumps out, this year she is determined to solve it. This book takes you to dark and strange places. It will drag you along at a fast pace so keep up. The storyline is dark, the book is so well written that you will keep reading to the end. Get your copy now. I was given a copy to read and this is my opinion.
Kate decides that now is the time to take a thorough look at the cold case of the death of Georgina. This is a case she was involved in when she was rookie and working with Harry Starke. There were five suspects at the time, but since they were all 16 years old, their parents had to be present during the questioning. Now they can talk with each of them to determine what they remember and see if there are any new leads.
At the same time, Kate has to deal with getting a new member for her team – Detective Jack North. This will be tough for her and her team since North is replacing a well-loved member, Lennie. In some ways, Kate is the perfect person for North to have as a boss as she’s had to suffer through baseless complaints against herself.
An added element to the review of the case are the beliefs of some people around the blood moon and rituals associated with it. As time counts down to the current blood moon, the team rushes to solve Georgina’s murder before any other mayhem happens. But will justice be served even if the killer is found?
Georgina by Blair Howard is the well-written storyline that is jam-packed with drama, conspiracy, suspense, angst, and an ever-encroaching shadow of danger. Kate Gazzara is an amazing detective. Blair Howard keeps you on your toes throughout the whole book. I enjoyed the twists and turns. There is no boring part in this book, a book you can’t put down until finished.
Captain Kate Gazzara doesn’t disappoint. A new member joins the team. The plot is filled with mystery and action. The characters are well-developed and believable.
This is one case Kate can’t let go. It’s gone cold after 15 years. Kate is now able to investigate it more thoroughly. The children involved are now adults and Kate can really show her determination and metal. New associate is keeping everyone on their toes. This thriller is heart wrenching and a non stop adventure of danger. Twists and turns that you don’t know if you are coming or going. The ending just leaves you breathless. Blair is one author that you can rely on for high quality hair raising mysteries. Gets better and better with each book. Bravo Sir! Received ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.
Kate Gazzara is a great character, she has had to battle prejudice within the police force to rise to her position of captain in the Chattanooga police department, she is impulsive, brave and sometimes too outspoken, which certainly makes her life interesting!
This story centres around a cold case of a teenage old girl who was murdered early on in Kate’s career at which time she and her mentor Harry Starke failed to find out who was responsible. On the 16th anniversary of the murder Kate decides to re-investigate and finally find the murderer.
There are five suspects for the murder, the group who had gone out with Georgina the night that she died, they were too young at the time to be interviewed with their parents being present, but now they are adults. They turn out to very disparate bunch, and they all seem to be hiding something, which means that the investigation is fascinating and full of twists and turns.
There is a sub-plot concerning a new member of her team, Jack North who is brought in to replace Lennie Miller who was killed during one of Kate’s cases. Jack is a bit of a loose cannon, but I think that he could be a very interesting addition to the team.
This is a genuinely interesting and exciting story, told by a very clever writer and it certainly kept me engaged right to the end.
I received an advance copy of the book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
Every cop has at least one case where there are just not enough pieces to the puzzle to solve a case that won’t let go of you
Kate Gazarra first met the players in this case as a rookie, together with Harry Starke
Is there finally a chance to put this case to rest all these years later?
Intense action and drama filled adventure
Captain Kate Gazzara is back with her team and this time they are working on a cold case. The cold case is 15 years old and was Kate’s first, and it has haunted her all these years. On top of the new old case, it’s time to replace Lennie. Jack North is a bit of a wild card and Kate has been tasked with making sure he’s successful. Georgina, a young girl murdered 15 years ago on the night of the blood moon. Five suspects were her friends, her circle, and now they are all adults. Can Kate and crew finally put this cold case to bed? Full of action and some serious intrigue, author Blair Howard has woven yet another great tale. A page turner that will keep you reading up to the very end! As an ARC reader for Blair Howard, I was given an advanced copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
