I freaking love love love this book!!
JEM has written a story that will leave you breathless with characters that are not only sexy as hell but also fascinating.
It was dark and raw and Theo is my new bookboyfriend!
EPIC LOVE STORY!!.
Jodi Ellen Malpas is an exceptional storyteller.
You know those books – the ones that you cant stop reading because you’re so caught up in it and before you know it – you haven’t slept. You haven’t moved from the spot you first sat in before you began. Yeah, those are always JEM books. Her This Man series is what drew me to her – and I was instantly a huge fan.
I LOVED this book. The characters and their journey pulls you into their web, entangling you within their addictive words. Izzy and Theo’s story? Absolutely amazing. So well written and thought out…Its almost like a movie with these characters that are brought to life before your eyes. I highly recommend this book!
Such a captivating and riveting read that I couldnt put down.
You could literally feel the sizzling chemistry and desire leaping off the pages.
Initially I really wasnt sure if I could like Theo at all, given his intimidating presence!! However his patience and gentle, caring side towards Izzy is what blew me away.
This book.
This story.
The characters..
The suspense, the intrigue, the sheer brilliance penned into this book was a story that I immersed myself in and came out of it feeling like, what on earth will I do with my life now!!
Absolutely brilliant!!
Really enjoyed this book
Another amazing read by Jodi. I absolutely loved Theo and Izzy, could not put this book down. Another hot alpha male that will leave you breathless and wanting more. Fingers crossed we get more of Theo!!!
5 Stars for this excerpt from the Gentleman Sinner

Opinions expressed are my own
Jodi Ellen Malpas is now an author added my TBR author list – I’ve determine her awesomeness by just reading this excerpt of Gentleman Sinner which was just SO GOOD !!
Izzy is a nurse finishing her shift and on her way home ( walking no less – takes a short cut that puts her in a not so great neighborhood) witnesses an attack & then she is also attacked … Theo comes out of no where to her rescue & their attraction is pretty immediate- you can feel the chemistry coming off the pages …
My local library happens to have the book so I can delve into their story that BTW I know I am going to
Thank you Netgalley for helping me to find this author !!
I love Jodi, but this book just didn’t work for me. I really didn’t like either character… that said, Jodi is an amazing writer and would recommend her other books.
I went into this book blind and as with every other Jodi Ellen Malpas book I was not disappointed. The mysterious Theo was a beast of a man with a heart of gold for Izzy. Izzy was a woman scared of her past who was way stronger than she realized. Theo and Izzy must use their strengths to overcome their pasts to save themselves and each other. I loved the instant chemistry, the love and the forgiveness between these two amazing characters.
OMG! This book will totally consume you! Riveting, heart felt, sexy, Steamy.. 5 stars is NOT enough for this masterpiece, Jodi Ellen Malpas has done it again folks!!!!
This really was a book of two halves.
From being excited to read it to then feeling that it was slightly too familiar to certain other well-known stories, suddenly something, probably Theo, locked onto me and was not prepared to let me go (or maybe it was the other way around!).
Theo’s back story is similar to a certain other well-known alpha male but at the same time, it’s totally different in a way that I found more thought-provoking and genuine. I could sympathise with Theo and his behaviour, despite him being a ticking time bomb 99% of the time in a way that I never could with CG. I hate comparing the two characters but that’s what the book made me do, at first.
Having read the first quarter of the book, I’ll admit to being tempted to move on to something else. The story was initially difficult to get into and it felt too predictable thus spoiling my enjoyment and my much-needed feeling of suspense/drama/intrigue. Then, the story seemed to do an about turn. The theme remained unchanged but something clicked and before I knew it, I was 100% invested in the story and its characters.
Theo’s love interest in this story is nurse Izzy, who, along with her friend and flat-mate Jess, were incredibly endearing characters. Yes, I can hear all of the “doormat” quotes and the blatant disregard for her safety when it came to Theo, but Izzy was a nurse and nurses have it ingrained into them to help people, and that’s exactly what Izzy did for Theo, and Theo did for Izzy in his own misguided way. Both Izzy and Theo have so much emotional baggage it weighs them down in their everyday activities. They are both recovering from trauma but in totally different ways. Both Izzy and Theo have formed lives for themselves based on their pasts: Izzy has run and created a new life for herself trying to move on from her memories but Theo is living the life his father wanted for him, despite his mother’s pleas. Different paths and journies to recovery aside, Theo and Izzy are like two pieces of a jigsaw that shouldn’t fit together but somehow manage to, without too much effort. Whilst Izzy’s is able to use a gentle healing hand on Theo, Theo’s method of helping Izzy is more akin to an emotional bull-dozer. Theo and Izzy may be opposites but when it comes to their coping strategies their relationship clearly works for them.
Despite having two very strong lead characters, it appears that the side story between Callum, Theo’s bodyguard, and Jess, Izzy’s friend and flat-mate, is what has put readers into a tailspin. For some reason their coming together has resonated with readers perhaps more than Theo and Izzy’s connection. Personally, I’d be happy to have more from all four characters but my curiosity is calling out to find out what would happen if Jess and Callum got together.
The epilogue, which can make or break a story IMO, was incredibly saccharine. It had an overload of gooiness, which was completely at odds to the brutal and violent start to the story, and yet it managed to wrap things up nicely. I just love it when two tough guys are brought to their knees in the most unexpected way!
Whilst this story was enjoyable, it did feel a little forced at times and almost as if the author was finding her way with the book whilst writing it. The essence of the story was thought-provoking and there was drama and suspense but overall it felt as if the book was growing as it was written rather than being mapped out from the start. Despite this, the book donned its Converse, and before long was running straight towards very successful conclusion.
Theo Kane, alpha extraordinaire. He’s a very damaged man who has found the one woman who doesn’t make his skin crawl. Hmmmmm…that doesn’t sound right, but it’s accurate.
Sparks fly, tensions flare and passion ignites. Secrets overwhelm. Healing begins.
The man fell with a single touch. Izzy fell after witnessing, experiencing the gentle giant and sex God. He’s poetic and loving, yet a simple touch can trigger violence and soul crushing guilt. He knows she’s saved his life, in more ways than one. And the beauty and joy of a special lady heals him in ways no other could.
Fall in love with the “unlovable”, completely adoring, always controlled, Gentleman Sinner, Theo Kane.
Izzy is a survivor. Escaping from a traumatic past, she reinvented herself and today finds security in her career as a nurse. But the ghosts left behind still haunt her. When faced with an unusual situation, in a dark alley, she does not hesitate and leaves to rescue someone in danger. Even if it puts her at risk. But when everything seemed to be heading for the worst, a mysterious man appears and saves her.
Theo is a real mystery. His strong and imposing figure scares at first sight. Behind the fancy clothes, there is a dangerous and lethal man, who exudes power and inhabits an illicit underworld. But when touching an unknown girl in an alley, unleashes an overwhelming feeling on both sides, which will start a passion unbridled, surrounded by erotic moments and permeated by secrets.
Those secrets, by the way, are what move the plot and trap the reader in such a way, that the pages are devoured behind answers to the great mystery of the book. Theo is an anti-hero, a tortured character with a traumatic past, a serious phobia, an illegal job, who lives on the fringe of society but still has a good heart. Catholic teachings are still present, even if he has moved away from his true self.
Izzy was the strength that Theo needed but also his vulnerability. She just as he has a lot of traumas to deal with, throughout the book several situations act as triggers, causing her to relive the past and have small outbreaks. It is undeniable that the two complete each other, but at the same time it was foreseeable that such an approach would be volatile.
Some attitudes of Theo raise discussions of how much this behavior can be considered abusive. His problem with controlling anger and being violent when he loses his temper, while pertinent to the character’s characterization and phobia, can ignite several red warning signs.
Secondary characters are interesting. Callum piqued my interest and I hope he has his story told. Eroticism and violence are present in the book, but nothing too explicit.
The great point of the work is the writing of Jodi Ellen. By creating yet another traumatized but controversial character, the author is able to print emotion, empathy and develop a story that makes the reader cheer and hope for a happy ending. I regard Gentleman Sinner as a foray into a darker side, a heavier narrative. And successful. Theo can join the author’s others unforgettable male characters. Even being a gentleman sinner.

**** 4 Life Changing Stars ****
What did I just read?!?! I have so many mixed emotions about this book… First, you need to know that this is a classic JEM book! There is a broken alpha male who falls in love with a girl. Oh, and did I mention that it is well over 7 hours long!!! JEM knows how to write long books!
That being said, I have such love for the storyline, but I really had a hard time with the characters themselves. I know, I know…. How dare I say that?!?! But it’s true. I kind of felt like I was reading a different version of FSoG. I am sure that was not intended, but it felt like that.
“You’re pumping me with painkillers when all I need is to f*ck you good and proper. That will sort me out.”
~ Jodi Ellen Malpas, Gentleman Sinner
Izzy White finds herself in need of “rescuing” of sorts. Along comes Theo Kane. I love Izzy & Theo as separate characters. But together… the only thing that worked for me was the last 20% of the book. And that epilogue… YES!! Mad, mad love for the epilogue.

“Family. I have my love, and I have my daughter. The good contracts all the badness of my life. The pure to overshadow the tainted. The peace to drown my demons.”
~ Jodi Ellen Malpas, Gentleman Sinner
Here is why I am still giving Gentleman Sinner 4 stars. JEM’s writing was fantastic. I was drawn into the storyline. It just didn’t work for me. I found that I was distracted with things to do around the house the first half of the book. It was long and slow. But the words were magically put together. I know that makes no sense, and that’s okay… I know what that means. Just because I didn’t love the characters or they didn’t resonate with me, doesn’t mean that you won’t like it. If you liked JEM’s This Man series, then you will love Gentleman Sinner for sure! Take this book off the shelf and it will flip your world and maybe even change your life.
“I need to get as far away from Theo Kane as possible before I cave and let him possess me. Because that’s exactly what will happen. He’ll possess me. One brief kiss and I’m all over the place. Anything more and I fear I’ll be signing my soul over to him. Or the devil.”
~ Jodi Ellen Malpas, Gentleman Sinner
I will say that I hope that Callum Tyler & Jess get their own book! I loved these side characters. And with Callum’s new job…. Hmmm…. I have a story a brewing right now. Lola needs friends!! I think that I would even like to see Penny have a story?!?! I liked her! And just as I was starting to get into her, we were done! Clearly there is more that JEM needs to write…
“I have my future mapped out for the first time in my life.”

Hint, hint….
Take this review with a grain of salt if you want. You may think I am crazy and love this book! Take a chance and fall in love with Theo & Izzy.

~ Review by Heidi Pharo
A very passionate story, between two broken souls. I loved this wonderfully angsty story. Think Real by Katy Evans and you will get a measure of this wonderful romance.
Theo Kane is a mountain of a man, very passionate, possessive and protective. From the first moment he touched Izzy’s hand in a dark alley where she was almost assaulted, he felt a connection and he was driven to be with her. He pursued her relentlessly. She realized he was a dangerous man and many were afraid of him, yet for some reason she was never afraid of him, to the contrary, for the first time in years, she felt safe when she was with him. Theo had a very strong temper and was swift to enrage. Many times he got enraged on her behalf and caused her trouble. When she went nuts on him, he would hang his head like a little boy scolded. Yet, he was fierce with everyone else.
I loved reading this book and the wonderful love story with these two characters. Izzy had her secrets of a life she left behind. Since Theo had his secrets too, whenever he tried to pry she would counter with his secrets that weren’t revealed either. It was inevitable that a couple so passionate, so ridden with secrets and a past ridden with heartbreak could not have their upheavals. Theirs is a rocky ride but they have wonderful characters on their side, apart from some enemies. This is a turbulent ride, full of angst, tenderness and secrets. It was a very riveting read, very fulfilling and also very nerve-racking. Totally recommend! This will be one of my fave reads of this year.
Wow, . I’m in awe of Theo and Izzy. Two people that are so completely different but yet are scorching hot together. Do they have in common a terrible past. This was a dark romance but oh so freaking good!!!!! Theo had demons and Izzy was the woman that cured him. This was a real emotional story that pulls you in from beginning to end. These two loved each other something fierce. And the way Theo sees Izzy, oh,y swoonworthy. I wish there were more of his POV.
Gentleman Sinner brought out mixed feelings in me while reading it. Some parts I liked and some I didn’t. I enjoyed the secondary characters. Izzy’s BFF Jess and Theo’s friend Callum. These two and their interactions with the main characters Izzy and Theo are what made me enjoy Gentleman Sinner. The book started out great for me. I liked Izzy and her working as a nurse. She passionate about her job and it’s her safe haven. Her first meeting with Theo was terrific too. Mysterious and intense.
I’m sad to say that I struggled a lot with Izzy and Theo. Their relationship needed more development or a build up. His pursuit of her and them being intimate was just too fast for me. I needed more story to establish a connection between them and sadly I never got that. For me their relationship was just sexual. I didn’t believe in them as a couple.
The tone of this book is at times dark because of Izzy and Theo’s past but thankfully Jess brought out the fun side of Izzy and also her bantering with Callum was great. The epilogue tied it all together and I saw a new and wonderful side of Theo. Despite the mixed emotions I overall enjoyed Gentleman Sinner and I hope I get my wish and get a book with Jess and Callum. That would be awesome
Gentleman Sinner by Jodie Ellen Malpas
This book was wow. Jodie does it again, this story will suck you into Theo and Izzy’s world. Theo is definitely swoon worthy, very dark and dangerous but this does not stop Izzy from falling for him and vice versa. They are both dealing with issues from the past, neither is open to sharing. This book will pull your emotions into different directions but you will love every minute of it. Both Izzy and Theo are very complicated characters that you will be happy to go on their journey to one another. Jodie Ellen Malpas delivers Theo to us and giving Jesse from This Man series a run for the number one spot in my heart. You have to read to this book, you will love every single word.
As soon as Izzy White and Theo Kane cross each other’s path, in a rather unusual way, they felt drawn to each other in unexplainable ways. It’s as if they have a visceral reaction to one another that further develops and magnifies each time they interact. But there’s a lot these two hold close to the vest, and once those secrets are exposed, it’s difficult to say where they will end up.
A saint to his sinner…a beauty to his beast…a lightness to his darkness…these descriptions seem to categorize Izzy and Theo’s contrary characteristics, but they don’t stop Theo from pursuing the one woman who affects him at his core, which means that despite their differences and the secrets they’re keeping, Theo will have Izzy in every possible way, even if that means bringing her back into a life she thought she left behind.
Theo Kane is definitely a trampler of sorts – he refuses to take no for an answer and he goes after what he wants with the foregone conclusion that he will have it, even when it’s a person who has free will of her own. Theo Kane is also a man who must be in control of all aspects of his life – his past dictates it and the darkness inside of him remains subdued as long as he keeps it and himself in check. But Izzy is a game changer, and what’s made abundantly clear is that she saves him just as many ways as he saves her.
Izzy White is a work-in-progress, but she’s made leaps and bounds since deciding to take back control of her life, refusing to succumb to the darkness that once enveloped her. She’s at a good place – she loves her job as a nurse and continues to make strides to heal her scars; I absolutely admired Izzy’s strength and her drive to live her best life. But I do wish that Izzy’s past was fleshed out more than it was. There’s a lot to sift through when it comes to all that she’s overcome, and I wanted a clear and complete view, which I didn’t feel like I was fully given.
Survive. Endure. Overcome. Protect. Keep.
Those are Theo and Izzy’s challenges and as their mysterious pasts are unearthed and the intensity of their feelings increase, they’ll need to decide what their connection is worth risking and enduring.
I so wanted to love this story; I wanted Theo Kane to make his way on my top book boyfriends’ list – one where Jesse Ward resides – but I had a difficult time understanding why Izzy and Theo are drawn to one another so intensely…I feel like things between them amped up too quickly and there was never a solid foundation created that made me feel like their relationship was something that would last, despite the secrets and their respective pasts. Don’t get me wrong, I felt their electric chemistry and the attraction is also evident, but I needed the details that brought them closer on more than just a physical level.
Even though I had a few issues with Gentleman Sinner, it was still an enjoyable read, and I especially enjoyed the secondary characters involved with Theo and Izzy, and I’m hoping that Jess and Callum get their story told.
3.5/4 Poison Apples
Even though I know I have a favorite authors list that probably consists of hundreds of authors, I can truly say the Jodi Ellen Malpas (JEM) has to be in my top 10 favorite authors. Every since I read This Man about Jesse Ward and Ava, JEM has been on my one-click list because her broken alpha makes are my favorite. I just loved the way she is able to write such a domineering, broken, alpha male and have her audience captivated by them and their story.
Izzy White is a strong, kind woman with a big heart. She has escaped a painful, brutal youth in order to create her current simple, quiet life as a nurse. When she comes to the aid of someone her act of kindness goes awry, Theo enters the situation as her knight in shining armor, but Izzy then becomes entangled in Theo’s world. Her bravery is always present with no fear of Theo’s menacing demeanor, but this chance encounter is going to turn their lives upside down.
Theo Kane is a brut of an alpha male that is broken in so many ways. Even though he is intimidating and complicated, I couldn’t help but be drawn to him. I loved his alpha protective instincts when it came to Izzy because it became apparent that she was the only one that could break through his defenses. Theo cannot figure out why Izzy would want a man as broken as him, but he cannot deny that Izzy brings out his sweet, affectionate side. Even though the chemistry between these two is quite instant, I liked the fact that Theo has demons in his past that keeps him from being the man for Izzy.
Even thought Theo couldn’t see that they were meant to be, I couldn’t stop reading if Izzy tore through his defenses to get him to see that he could be loved. Regardless of these two having dark pasts, the audience gets to see these characters build their own world and future together. This couple is definitely my second favorite of JEM’s creations and I cannot wait to see what else she will have for us in 2019.
** I voluntarily left a honest review after reading an advanced review copy of this book **
Sucked into the story from the very first page. As soon as you meet Theo and Izzie, you know you want to follow them both down whatever path they lead you down. This path is a dark tunnel that you don’t know where it will lead and when it will end, but the only thing you know is that you want to discover more. Theo is a broken man that makes you want to heal him and wrap your arms around him. It is easy to understand why Izzy is drawn to him and hates him at the same time. Theo is just magnetic and even though he has flaws which make you want to smack him, you can’t turn away from him and hope he finds his way. Just amazing from start to finish.
