Great read! Loved the characters in this book.
Racheal was what one might call shallow, and spoiled, but that was far for what she really was. With being raised by her father, a General in the English army, and all evidence of her mother erased, Racheal grew up with war and battles described with honor, heroic’s, removing any reference of sadness for the lost lives. The plan for Racheal was to marry Sir Dunstan Wells, her hero of battles and prestige. What Racheal didn’t know, was the ugly part Dunstan played. When Glen Lyon/Gavin kidnapped Racheal, as ransom to help women and children to have safe exit to a ship that was to carry them to safety and a new life. Racheal didn’t believe that Dunstan was the reason for the kids and women having suffered a horrible injustice….nor did Rachael think she would have any feelings for Gavin, other then knowing him as a coward and traitor to the King.
There is plenty of mystery, intrigue, drama…and a surprising change in loyalty, betrayal…plus a new beginning and love that neither thought they would every experience…..nor have. Great Read!
I’ve read hundreds of historical romances and this is still the best. Every reader of romance and/or history should read.
