Danika Dark never disappoints. This series is addicting and will keep you up all night.
Reading this now and loving it!
The Crossbreed series has quickly become a favorite. I’m savoring my “book binge” with each new Keystone case. What I love the most are the characters. The entire team have layers that go deep… and dark. Yet they are able to redeem themselves and impart wisdom when least expected.
I love this series, but I hate it too. I love the intrigue and backstory with each character. It just builds with each book. I’m always left wondering what will happen in the next book; what part of which character’s story will unfold within the series. In this story Raven and Christian’s secret relationship seems to finally be going somewhere when Raven is kidnapped and sold by from her past. I don’t want to ruin it but it has dire consequences on her present when she is finally rescued. Bam, plot twist again and it changes the direction of the plot. Let just say Ms. Dark likes to keep her reader’s ever on their toes.
I have been binge reading Dannika Dark. Love all her books. Wonderful characters. Strong women characters; strong and engrossing story lines! Love her!
Gaslight by Dannika Dark is the newest installment in the Crossbreed series. The focal point told mainly from the perspective of Raven Black, is on the investigative group Keystone. The group connects evidence to potential suspects so the Higher Authority can deal justice as swiftly as possible. There are several subplots and personal elements that piece together throughout the series. I recommend reading the Crossbreed books from the beginning for this reason.
Raven is a strong protagonist. Dissatisfied with life, Raven paid dearly for her decision to become an immortal. After finding Keystone, Raven found a purpose that helped her deal with the abuse she suffered at the hands of her Creator. Raven has kept her humanity, her ability to love, to make friends and a semblance of conscience. The events in this book threaten these things, and I was shocked by and sympathetic to what occurred.
I have been hit before by a plot point I didn’t see coming in this series, mainly ones that have to do with character connections, and I love it. To me, this shows a great deal of care in the craft of the narrative. Witnessing moments that seem innocuous in book one later turn out to be a harbinger of things to come. These are the types of plots that I crave. I want to be kept on my toes, looking around every corner for a revelation.
I always enjoy the members of Keystone. Their relationships with each other continue to solidify, and their trust continues to build. The hopes I had at the end of the last book are coming to pass. And Chaos/ Houdini, I am torn on how to feel. He retains his charm and seeing him through Raven’s eyes amplifies that. The best antagonists convince us they are not all bad. He is the type of character I get fleeting moments of hope they may be redeemable. But Houdini is not good, and I see a tense resolution coming from his presence here.
Raven and Christian continue to struggle with their romance. Outer forces are now deliberately trying to keep them apart, which will certainly test their dedication to each other. I still believe they are a perfect match and as the old saying goes what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Here is hoping for them it does.
One observation I want to make, and it may be a slight spoiler, it seems the biggest evil done is always in the hands of a Mage. Not all of them are bad, but I feel soon I am going to stop trusting them. Which leads me to this warning, anyone who has a sensitive trigger should be cautious. This world can be dark at times, and horrific things transpire in this story. It is not exploitative, and there is hope after, but the torture at the hands of a Mage is not sugar-coated.
I have yet read a book by Dannika Dark I did not like, also look for the Seven series and the Mageri series, but some of my favorite characters are in these books. Christian, Raven, Niko, Wyatt, Shepard, Claude, Blue, Gem, Viktor … Okay, so Keystone rocks. All opinions are my own and may not be identical to others. I urge all readers to come to their own conclusions.
Audiobook & ebook review: Gaslight is filled with plenty of action, suspense, mystery, heat, & sadness. The storyline is interesting and well developed. The characters are likable (the villains not so much) & believable. This story includes kidnapping and torture and may not be suitable for anyone under 18. The narrator did an awesome job!
You need to read the previous books to understand this one, but they are all worth the read. Dannika Dark does series after series that keep me coming back for more. I’m glad we got to know Christian better in this book, but the best parts are the twists and turns that keep you on your toes. Storyline flows so it’s an easy read. A true Gaslight!
Read this series!
Love this author! Love this series! Love Raven and Christian together and I love the world created by this author. This series is a must read. There is so much to like that I don’t even know where to begin. This series just keeps getting better.
I loved this whole series. She is one of my favorite authors.
I love these characters and this story yet the end of this book has me so very angry with what is happening. Raven and Christian have to fight and try so hard for anything and everything. I just want to rant and rave and throw things. I am antsy now waiting for the next book.
The latest book in the Crossbreed series, Gaslight, was packed full of information about Raven. I love the way Dannika Dark reveals her characters…every page leaves you wanting more – and she delivers!! For those who love series, this is an author that delivers. Can’t wait for the next book!!
Questions answered, Kidnappings, and stolen memories, Raven just keeps taking the hits. Christian is amazing and the heat turns up. I love this series and am already salivating while waiting for the next book.
This was a strange read for me. I found myself feeling so sorry for Raven then annoyed with her & then I didn’t like her very much!!! I don’t know how that’s possible in one book by this awesome Author & about one of my favourite characters But I’m trying to be honest & I thought Raven quite cold at times & I didn’t like it!!!
There is a HUGE reveal regarding the owner of the box with the key inside. I knew it would be important but I never suspected what happened in a million years!! Raven gets messed up physically, mentally & emotionally in this book & I didn’t like it one bit
The Storyline centres around Raven’s lead into the Vampire/Human Trafficking of Younglings. She’d noticed the same spelling mistake in multiple places & placed her own advert as bait which had panned out. She was hoping to get ‘chosen’ as a human that wants to become a new vampire & they’d then capture who ever tried to take her & follow the trail from there. Unfortunately for Raven things don’t go to plan even with Christian as her back up!!!
This book has left me in a dilemma. It was well written, amazing characters, great plot, fantastic twists etc etc but I personally hated what it did to Raven & in turn to the possibility of her & Christian. They were on the verge of something wonderful & it’s been defiled & I hate that!! I was fine with the snail pace of their romance but this will take some deft writing to set right or more heartbreakingly, it’ll be the end of them!!
Interestingly, I think we saw Nico showing a possible interest in Gem He seems more than just friendly concerned regarding her & her dating life!! Blue & Victor seem to show a possessiveness towards each other that grows incrementally in each book. I also can’t wait to find out more about Kira & her story, what Breed she is (Phoenix?), especially why she needs Keystone’s protection & what is going on between her & Shepherd??
I really hope Fletcher & Houdini are captured & brought to Justice in Book 5. I’d love it if they somehow manage to hugely implicate, with evidence of course, Patrick Bane so Shepherd’s son can be freed
Though I’m only giving Gaslight 3.5 stars due to my issues with the plot, I really can’t wait for the next book. You know you can’t go wrong with Dannika Dark’s (this is the 1st time I’ve been disappointed by a plot!!) work, it’s excellent!! I still recommend this book as its just me that’s upset with what happened I’m sure.
