Twenty-two-year-old Garnet Adams longs to marry and have a houseful of children. Forced to support her widowed mother, she embraces her role as a teacher, although the Carrie Town board of education’s rules for female teachers leave no opportunity for a social life. She contents herself playing the violin at church.Tall, bearded, and rough around the edges, Deputy Noah Scott would rather hunt … rather hunt than socialize. Garnet thinks he’s a rude, insensitive drifter, and Noah’s sure the last person he’d want to court is a schoolmarm–especially with her unladylike sneeze. As the needs of her students bring them together, opposites seem to attract until a certain Christmas present derails their future.

Great story!
This is an overtly Christian story.
It’s funny and sweet and romantic with well done characters and natural-sounding dialogue.
There’s bits of misunderstandings and shenanigans and left me with a smile on my face.
It is no wonder that teachers were considered spinsters in the 1800’s, the rules they had to live by worked to keep them single. Kimberley Grist brings us a story of Garnet, the small town teacher, and Noah, the deputy sheriff. Oh the rules such as home before dark, no riding in a buggy with a man unless they were father or brother, no bright clothes, made courtship tough unless you had help from good friends or relatives. This story is heartwarming, humorous and romantic. Who knew a lost gift could be romantic? I enjoyed this story.
This was a very enjoyable story! And I enjoyed the narration as well! The Christmas gift added a nice twist!
Loved this story. Oh so many rules for teachers back in the day. This historical romance was sweet and clean and left you feeling good. Small town, neighbors helping neighbors. I listened to audio version and the narrative on this was excellent!
I received a free copy and this is my honest opinion.
This review is for the audiobook which I received free from the author.
I laughed a lot throughout this story. Each chapter starts with a rule from the school board about how a lady teacher is to act. Some of those rules are hilarious. Garnet is the best teacher for this old west town. Very well written. I love Ms. Hoopes’ narration also. She has the perfect voice for reading books & doing the inflections. Highly recommend.
Garnet’s Gift
Christian Historical Romance
By: Kimberly Grist
Narrated by: Lorana Hoopes
A book like this makes me think about how simple life was back in the 1800’s. Garnet is wishing for her house full of kids, but while she has the burden of responsibility to help her widowed mother, she will enjoy her job as a teacher. The Sheriff in town, Noah has taken a liking to her, but he is not looking for a relationship. Theses two enjoy getting to know each other without texting and cellphones, but by spending time together,.. as friends. But we can feel the chemistry as it builds. And when a misunderstanding comes to light, we will see if their budding relationship is strong enough to handle it! I really enjoyed this short story, with the townspeople, how they come together and of course the gossip. Narrated by Lorana Hoopes, we get to enjoy not only her many voices and inflections but her beautiful singing voice as well. It’s a fantastic listen.

Rules for Teachers
Sweet, romantic, and funny story of the young teacher and a handsome deputy with some facial hair lol
I enjoyed it and it confirmed that I wouldn’t survive as a teacher in 1890s.
I loved this book in audio version! The narrator’s voice picked up all the different nuances of the various characters. The author engaged me, making me feel like I was right there with Garnet and the children in the classroom during the storm or walking alongside Noah at dusk. For a while, I could see the 1890 western town in Texas and was introduced to endearing friends. I empathized with Garnet’s disappointment and found the plot twists entertaining. I highly recommend this book, whether in audio or another format, and other books by this author.
**Audiobook Review** I was given a copy of this audio book for an honest review. I truly enjoyed listening to this book. This was my first book by Kimberly Grist. I love historical romances and am a new fan of Kimberly’s. Lorana Hoopes narrated this book and as usual, did a wonderful job. Her singing voice is beautiful. I enjoyed listening to her sing snippets of hymns. I recommend listening to this book.
