Can Hillary get poor strong willed, yet sweet old Rose out of the line of (literal) fire, or will she and everyone’s lives and businesses go up in flames?
It’s getting hot in Rosemary Harbor, Massachusetts. But not because it’s Summer time. There’s been a fire at a popular bookstore, and Genevieve Hardcore, the store’s owner and a beloved local denizen with more than a few foes, was caught in the … Hardcore, the store’s owner and a beloved local denizen with more than a few foes, was caught in the fiery blaze….
Looks like another hot case for amateur super sleuth, Hillary Sheridan-if Rosemary Harbor police chief Preston Holden doesn’t cool her tracks, first.
But Hillary has more than a good enough reason to stick her irons in the fire: her building’s landlord (and Hillary’s good friend), Rose Humbert, has just become Suspect #1 in the case for many reasons, including a very dubious history she has, one that puts her in hot water now.
This cozy mystery is a clean read: no graphic violence, sex, or strong language. It can be read in one to two hours. It is perfect for those moments when you are waiting at an appointment or want to enjoy a quick read.

Gardener’s Greenhouse is a fun, cozy mystery novella from a very good author. Although part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone. This is a very short, quick read and parts of it were very good but for me there was too much fluff and waffle that really wasn’t necessary. This is only my opinion so I suggest you read the book and make up your own mind.

Another great cozy mystery by this author. This story hits too close to home for Hillary as Rose is suspected of being an arsonist that burns down the bookstore, which just happens to be a property she is desperately trying to buy before her rival Trudy can do so. This story also shows us a not so nice side of Rose and other residents of this little burg.

In this one, Hillary decides she’s going to stay out of all police/investigation business from now on, until a good friend of hers is accused of murder, and she just can’t stand by and watch the police throw an innocent person in jail. You can’t blame her as the police are ready to believe the first things they hear and not do a lot of investigating on their own. It might have started a little slow for me, then things just picked up speed maybe even too fast once she got to investigating, but it was an enjoyable little read, and you couldn’t help but feel for the characters and try to guess who the culprit was yourself.
This well-plotted, family-friendly mystery with dashes of jealousy and revenge can be read in less than a day.

For a man who allegedly really wants to date a certain widow, Police Chief Preston does not show enough kindness and respect to Hilary.
Discouraging her from being involved in cases is one thing. Not letting her know his concern and worry stems more from affection than intentional disrespect or insult- just plain foolish on his part. She might be more inclined to stick to other pursuits, or perhaps even consider seeing more of him if he pursued her more wisely.
Good on Hilary for sticking to her guns and trying to stay out of things- and good on her for demanding respect. It might prove a lonely exile though.
Disasters from the past come back to haunt the town, a disputed bookshop and Rose, who might also be her own worst enemy. She might want to gossip less and avoid angry or otherwise dramatic outbursts that could possibly criminally implicate her.
An enticing small town mystery KU read!
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited. I also received a copy from Booksprout.
I own or have borrowed from KU several other books from this author.

Great series, love Hillary, Annabelle and Rose. They support each other when the going gets tough. And it gets tough for Rose when she is arrested and it is up to Hillary to find the read killer who framed Rose for the crime. Great fun and humor throughout the story. The friends are true friends and believe in each other. Highly recommend this mystery to all cozy mystery lovers. A really fun reading experience.
Rose is accused of causing a fire because of something that occurred in her past that….
I was actually wondering how her smoking partner may have been involved but….
What happens between Hilliary and Preston….
What about Annabelle and her love life now that….
Who is the person responsible for the fire and its uniqueness….
This might be book three in the series but you can definitely start reading here first. There are just enough references to the other books to get by and interest you into possibly reading them also. They all are fun easy to read and can be done in a day is you so choose.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
