He’s home to recover …and rekindle a romance with his first loveAfter a hitting streak propels him onto a major league roster, Nate Ramsey lands on the injured list. The one bright spot in a frustrating summer is returning home to Last Stand, Texas – until he’s tasked with confronting Keely Harper, an old flame whose business is running roughshod over his grandfather’s farm. Nate accepted it … Nate accepted it when she ended things five years ago, but he won’t overlook a slight to the rest of the Ramseys. What game is she playing?
Keely has always carried the weight of responsibility for her dysfunctional family, so she can’t regret the way she ended things with Nate. Cutting him loose to pursue his dreams was the kindest thing she could have done for a man with talent to take him far beyond Last Stand. Except now he’s back, and the fireworks between them haven’t faded a bit. If she gives into the temptation of a kiss, will she be able to let him go again once his injury heals and baseball wants him back?

I Simply Love Last Stand, Texas it is quickly becoming my second favorite fictional town. I adore cowboys and if I am not In Marietta I want to be in Last Stand. In this book, which is the second book in the Texas Playmakers series we get to know Nate Ramsey. Nate, if you read the first book in the series, Is a professional baseball player, based in Texas. Well he is home to recover on the IR or Injured Reserved. While he is home he come looking for Keely Harper he one and only love. High School sweethearts that life (her drunk father) got in the way. This book is so true to life in so many ways and our author tells a love story that has me rooting for them and wanting to reach thru the pages to strangle some old men’s necks. I can not wait for the next book in this series! it looks to be every bit as good as this book if not better.
Second chance romance with baseball hero. The perfect escape for anyone currently missing sports.
Nate Ramsey had finally realized his dream of playing baseball in the majors but after only 10 weeks, he suffered an injury and was out recuperating from surgery to his hand. He had left Last Stand, Texas five years earlier to seek his dream and now he was back.
Keely Harper has broken it off with Nate Ramsey five years ago so that she wouldn’t hold him back from realizing his dream of playing baseball in the major league. After her mother’s abandonment when she was young and her father’s alcoholic binges, she took on the responsibility of shielding her young sister and taking care of her dad. What that meant was that she gave up her dreams and tried to make the best of things. When she learns of one more betrayal by her father, she is devastated but Nate comes to her rescue to try and reach a compromise that will protect her. The more she is with him, the more she wants what she once had but even a little time with Nate might be better than no more time at all. . . right?
This was a sweet story and the second book that I have read about this Ramsey family in Last Stand, Texas. There are some intimate scenes that are a little more graphic than I enjoy but the story is sweet and wonderful.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Heartwarming, fun, sexy and engaging romantic journey filled with laughter, witty banter, interesting charters and lots of home town goodness…. loved the exiting undeniable passion of this second chance. Was a thrilling read from beginning to end and I really enjoyed the adventure.
If you like hometown romance, put this one on your TBR list. Five years ago, Nate Ramsey and Keely Harper were sweethearts. I guess you could say baseball broke them apart. Now, Nate has to recover from surgery on his left hand, sustained from an injury during a baseball game. He’s going home to recover, back to Last Stand, TX. What he wants is to start a kids baseball camp, what he needs is Keely.
Sweet and hot in Texas.
A free copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
An excellent book touching on topics of alcoholism, Joanne Rock gives you an incredible story in Nate and Keely who were childhood sweethearts come together again, but unsure if they want to weather the storm of trying again. In it you also have the parallel story of Keely’s sister Alexis and Ty one of Nate’s teammates. This is a powerful book and so worth the read.
This is the second book in the series. I really like the Ramsey clan. Plus the brothers are baseball players, yum! These characters pull the emotions out of you. They both have some family issues and they dated in the past. Now fate has brought the two of them together. This a good second chance romance. I feel for Keely. Life has dealt her one blow after another. I was rooting for her to get her HEA. She so deserves it. I also like that there is a secondary romance going on in this book with Keely’s sister. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Game On by Joanne Rock is book Two in the Texas Playmakers Series. This is the story of Keely Harper and Nate Ramsey. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Keely and Nate were once young and in love. Nate was moving on to become a minor in the baseball world and Keely was to come with him. But then she broke things off and he went on with his life. Now a few years later he is back home in Last Stand, Texas after being injured and having to heal. Keely felt she had to break things off with Nate due to her father’s drinking, having a younger sister and her mother dying when she was younger making her the responsible one in the family. Keely didn’t want to hold Nate back from his dreams which she felt she would do. Keely has went on to put herself through college on line, allow her sister to go to college and start a business to support her family. Now the sparks between them are still flying high for sure, but is this her chance to finally look out for herself and be with Nate?
Game On by JoAnne Rock is a fantastic read! This is the 2nd book in her new series The Texas Playmakers. I have read numerous book books by this author and she doesn’t disappoint with this book! I couldn’t put my kindle down until I finished reading this book. I will definitely be going back to read the 1st book in this series.
Game On explores the second chance romance between Nate Ramsey and Keely Harper. The pair shares a history because they were dating in high school and college. Nate has come home to Last Stand, Texas to heal after he has surgery after getting injured playing professional baseball. Keely owns a wildflower business and she has been responsible for helping to raise her little sister and taking care of her alcoholic father and grandfather. Her mother ran off and Keely is afraid of getting hurt.
The pair meets again for the first time when Nate’s grandfather wanted him to talk to Keely about growing wildflowers on his land. The chemistry is still there between the pair of former lovers. Keely and Nate both feel the love that was between them when they were younger.
Will Keely and Nate give in to their old and new feelings? Will Nate continue to play ball? Will Keely and Nate finally get their happy ever after? You will have to read Game On by JoAnne Rock to find out! Game On has plenty of romance for the avid romance reader. Game On is beautifully written and so engaging. Game On is book two in Joanne Rock’s Texas Playmakers series and revolves around a family of sons following in their father’s footsteps of pro baseball dreams and careers. Family drama and the game’s ups and downs have them each returning home individually to confront the past and find their future. Game On is a reunited love story between said baseball player and his former high school sweetheart turned flower grower.
Nate Ramsey was quick to grab my attention because he was heading home to the same family that we got to know in book one of the series. He’s injured and planning a recovery while checking in at home, but he doesn’t expect his grandfather to send him to see his lost love as soon as he hits town.
Keely Harper is a complex character. She holds the weight of the world on her shoulders and forsakes her own happiness more often than not in hopes of keeping her family under the radar and functioning.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a small town romance with a hint of sports and a whole lot of warm memories and family centered story line. I’m enjoying the series and looking forward to the next brother’s story!
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Nate figures his baseball career might be over after his injury and goes back home to rehab. Keely stayed in Last Stand to hold the family together and might now regret it but her choice then was right for the family. A great series to start reading and a standalone read so if you don’t want to start at book one you don’t have to.
This is my first read by Joanne Rock and I’m surprised that she hasn’t crossed my radar before now and I will certainly be checking out other works by her. Game On is book 2 in the Texas Playmakers and I had no problem getting involved in this romance even though I haven’t read the first book in the series. This book has a lot going for it, second chance romance, sports romance and small town romance all play a factor in this love story so I’m sure Nate and Keely’s story will appeal to a very wide audience.
Nate and Keely are both afraid that history will repeat itself and they will find themselves once again walking away from each other. Will Keely let Nate back into her heart when he walked away so easily last time and will Nate open up his heart once again to the woman who broke it once before. This couple have a lot of emotional hurdles to jump before they can really admit the true love they feel for each other and I really enjoyed joining their journey as they got to know each other all over again. This book is a great romance with great characters including a very meddling grandfather who seems to be the only one who see’s the love this couple are trying to hide. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
4 star Review Game On (Texas Playmakers #2) by Joanne Rock
Professional Baseball player Nate Ramsey has returned home to Last Stand, Texas to recover from an injury. He hopes that he can also take the time to re connect and confront his old girlfriend, Keely Harper.
From the moment they set eyes on one another again it is clear that there is still an attraction burning brightly between them.
I enjoy small town and sports romances so the blurb drew me in. The secondary characters were entertaining and I would expect from the other underlying story line within Game On will lead into the next book. There were times that I felt that the story dragged a little but overall it kept me interested.
Will Keely let Nate back in or is the fear that he will leave again be enough to keep the walls she has built in tact? Nate is worried that if he gives in to his feelings, she will just as easily let him go. The miss communication was a tad frustrating at times but thanks to a meddling grandfather Nate and Keely finally see what others around them do; they are meant for one another.
Game On By Joanne Rock
Keely Harper and Nate Ramsey
Keely and Nate dated before he left to follow his baseball dreams. He wanted her to go with him and she felt like she needed to stay and take care of her sister. They meet again when he is injured and comes home to Last Stand, Texas to recover. They are still attracted to each other and fall in love all over again. I really enjoyed this book. I received a complimentary copy. and wanted to review the book.
A fantastic second chance where you aren’t sure it will have a happy ending which makes it even better as well as keeps you hooked. Nate forever the peace keeper of the family is back home after sustaining an injury, while home he has to face Keely his ex who he left behind to get his break in baseball. There is friction and attraction from the start but both she and Nate need to work out what they want in left right now and if they can trust each other. It was also great how Keely’s sister comes back to town too and we see things simmer between herself and one of Nate’s teammates who has come to town to recover from an injury also. I can not wait for the next book in this series to see what happens next!
This was an entertaining & emotional story regarding two childhood sweethearts that broke up & have found each other years later. Nate was drafted by a baseball team & left to start in the path to his career. Keely couldn’t leave Last Stand at that time. She felt she needed to stay & protect her sister until she was in college. Now Nate is on the injured list & is back in Last Stand to recuperate. Keely has established her own business & is taking care of her alcoholic father. They are drawn to each other again & again. Can they get it right this time?
I enjoyed following Nate & Keely down the path they have to follow. There were bumps & detours but they were mature enough to work through them this time instead of running away. One thing they couldn’t do earlier was see the other persons side. Keely comes across as an enabler at the beginning but I really feel she was doing the best she could. I enjoyed getting to know the supporting characters. They’ve added depth & emotion to the story. I can’t wait until Ty & Alexis’s story!
This is one of the few authors that can get me to read just straight forward contemporary lately. I always seem to have to have a angle or suspense or even a special op lol. I do not read too many ones that have sports in them either as this one does.
Of course this character has a injury so Nate goes home. Keely is the other main character that this one would seem that this is a second chance which I adore for some reason. The chemistry is still there. This one takes us for a ride with them. It is a interesting one that keeps you guessing at times where they will end up.
Game On is a good, solid, second chance, sports romance. Nate Ramsey is a professional ball player that has been injured and is currently sidelined. He decides to go home to finish his recuperation. He hasn’t been back home to Texas much in the 5 years since he left it and his childhood sweetheart. Keely Harper stayed behind even though she loved Nate. She felt that she had obligations at home and when his opportunity to turn pro happened during his last year of college she chose not to go with him. 5 years has given them both time and perspective to realize what is most important and hopefully get things right. This was a very sweet story. The characters are all so likeable but especially Nate’s mother. I really hope to read a story about this amazing woman one day! Even though Game On is the second book in the series, it stands on its own. It is a quick, sweet with a hint of steam story that can easily be read in one day at the beach.
I liked Nate and Keely’s story. There is plenty of tension, emotional turmoil and drama as these two get their second chance at love. I think one of my favorite things about this book was the different prospectives of the characters. It is truly amazing how people can see the same thing so differently. Nate was an OK character for me. In my opinion, he was just a little to uninformed and uncaring of Keely’s situation. I really liked Keely and could sympathize with her. Maybe it’s because I could really relate to her. Until you have those types of burdens and responsibilities dropped onto your shoulders, you have no idea what it is like and can’t truly understand how it will change you and your world. I thought that this was a good read.
This was a great second chance love story.
Nate & Keely rekindle their love from 5 years ago and have to figure out how to work through the new obstacles in their way; a disaster at her farm, a baseball trade and Keely’s continued family issues.
A very enjoyable read.
