He’s home to recover …and rekindle a romance with his first loveAfter a hitting streak propels him onto a major league roster, Nate Ramsey lands on the injured list. The one bright spot in a frustrating summer is returning home to Last Stand, Texas – until he’s tasked with confronting Keely Harper, an old flame whose business is running roughshod over his grandfather’s farm. Nate accepted it … Nate accepted it when she ended things five years ago, but he won’t overlook a slight to the rest of the Ramseys. What game is she playing?
Keely has always carried the weight of responsibility for her dysfunctional family, so she can’t regret the way she ended things with Nate. Cutting him loose to pursue his dreams was the kindest thing she could have done for a man with talent to take him far beyond Last Stand. Except now he’s back, and the fireworks between them haven’t faded a bit. If she gives into the temptation of a kiss, will she be able to let him go again once his injury heals and baseball wants him back?

Sweet story with great characters.
Game On (Texas Playmakers Book 2) by Joanne Rock …this is a great series and thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book.. This is a second change romance between Nate Ramsey ..professional baseball player back home in injured leave and dealing with his over baring father… Keely Harper..trying to make it on her own..taking care of her father (recovering drunk) who is no help…. They loved each other but broke up when Nate got a chance to play in the majors. There is angst, laughter, tears, bumps along the way all to get them to a HEA. I am looking forward to the next book SCORING POSITION.
Game On is a cross between a second chance and a sports romance with emphasis on the second chance love story. I’m a sucker for second chances, but I would’ve liked to have seen a little more of the Great American Pastime, especially since it played such a big part in the relationship. The story is well-written and entertaining as Nate and Keely tiptoe around their attraction. It’s a decent story and runs the usual formula for a second chance romance with the lead up to realizing what they want, some fun and sexy get to know you again, the required angst, and the figuring it all out, and I did like the characters. Nevertheless, I wanted something more. It’s a good story, but there is absolutely nothing to set it apart and make me remember it down the road. What I ended up with was an okay story in the fair to midland range. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. It is the second book in a series, but I had no problem following this one as a standalone. I would say that those who have read the first book in the series and have developed an attachment to the characters would probably enjoy this one more than I did. For me, it’s just shy of pushing me over that edge. I would probably check out the next book in the series, but this one hasn’t left me with a burning need to watch for it.
Game On was not one of my favorites by Joanne Rock but there are a lot of good points to the novel. There’s a good storyline involving second chances. The two main characters, Keely and Nate, both have problems that seem insurmountable to their reunion. There is a cool secondary storyline involving Keely’s sister, Alexis, and another baseball player, Ty, that continues into the next book in the series. The story is a bit slow to get going and drags in a few areas, too.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We are back in Last Stand, TX and this time Nate Ramsay gets his story.
Nate comes from a family of baseball players and finally gets a chance to play in the major league but an injury sidelines him and he goes back home to Last Stand to recover. But his return stirs feelings for the girl he left behind five years ago when she chose not to follow him.
Keely Harper is finally getting some stability in her life after spending most of it taking care of her younger sister, dealing with an alcoholic father as well as a struggling business in order to feed and care for everyone.
The story is filled with family drama on both sides, the unknown future of Nate’s career and whether or nor Keely is ready to let go and find time to do something for herself. Feelings and fear of abandonment run deep.
Though at times a little slow, it was an entertaining story . The main characters as well as the secondary ones kept the story interesting.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Tule Publishing . The opinions expressed are solely my own.
“Game On” is book two of the Texas Playmakers series by Joanne Rock and features Nate Ramsey and Keely Harper.
Injured playing baseball, Nate returns home to Last Stand, Texas. His grandfather, Emmett, needs Nate to talk to Keely about a piece of land that she’s been using for her wildflower farm.
Keely ended her relationship with Nate five years ago so he could pursue his baseball career and she could stay behind to care for her father and sister.
Now, Nate is back and their feelings for each other are still there.
Filled with family drama, Nate and Keely both have a decision to make if they want to have the happily-ever-after they didn’t get the first time around.
Ms. Rock writes a story about family and if/when you should put your own happiness first.
