He lost a wager . . . but won a treasure. Due to a lost wager, the Duke of Ravenham is obliged to bring a pretty little nobody from the country into fashion among the high-sticklers of London Society. Ravenham would never refuse a debt of honor, no matter how unorthodox, so he overlooks Miss Gordon’s vulgar relations to do what is necessary, escorting the unsophisticated chit to balls, etc. But … balls, etc. But what he expects to be an irksome duty turns out to be something quite different as he falls under the spell of his protege’s innocent charm. When he lost that wager, he definitely never counted on losing his heart as well!
First impressions can be deceiving.
Miss Gabriella Gordon only came to London at her mother’s and sister’s insistence, for she’d much rather assist in running her father’s veterinary practice than attempt to fit into fashionable society. No sooner has she arrived in London than the exalted (and exceedingly handsome) Duke of Ravenham comes to call. The reason is less than flattering, however: due to a lost wager, the Duke is forced to bring Gabriella into fashion, a “favor” she would certainly refuse if her family would let her. But the more time she spends in the dashing Duke’s company, the more conflicted she feels— particularly when she discovers they have more in common than she ever dared dream.

Well this was adorable! The ending felt a little rushed, but it could just be that I wanted the book to be longer :). “Gabriella” is a fun, clean read that featured really likable characters. Brie and Dexter were both charming, and even Angela, who was horrid, made me laugh. The story also includes a sweet rescued kitten and some newborn puppies. …
A delightful romance with a lost wager and an unusual young lady. Several turns makes for great reading and charms the reader. Now to read another of Hiatt’s books!
Need a good romance with characters who don’t quite fit the classic mold? You’ll enjoy Gabriella, the uninterested, but willing debutante. The ending is not in the usual romance style, but leaves you feeling hopeful about their future.
A well written lovely romance
Very entertaining!
It has been awhile, but I have noted an outstanding author. I read two more.

Enjoyable, entertaining take for a cozy evening.
Enjoyed it so much I’m reading the series
I loved this so much I bought more from this author.
Not really a book, just a few chapters of one to try to hook you into buying more. Not interested in that
A man loses a wager with a fried and a romance is born.
Gabriella (Hiatt Regency Classics #1) by Brenda Hiatt is a short read. The book could have used more pages to flesh out the characters and the plot seemed superficial and rushed. Also, better research into correct Regency peerage and acceptable behaviors regarding ‘occupations’ of said group and its time period might help. The book was …
I enjoyed this book. It did have several editing problems though.
Wonderful, Sweet & Adorable Story.
I enjoyed reading this Book.
Gabriella (Brie) & Dexter’s (Duke of Raverham) Journey to HEA was Adorable.
This Sweet Book is a clean read with no Sexual content.
I liked it because the heroine was not ostracized by all for her choices.
Enjoyed this Regency romance.
Gabriella, a Regency, independent woman who found it necessary to go through the motions of finding a husband. The Duke of Ravenham is a man of his word and is committed to helping the country young woman. Both find they have more in common than either would have imagined. You will enjoy reading how in Regency England young ladies were courted!
Wonderful read
Excellent clean romance
