Holly Molly! How I loved this. I love it when an author messes with my mind.
I didn’t see it comming, I had no idea who was behind it all.
And since I’m one of those readers to whom the writing style matters a lot, and this not being my first book by Tracie, I do love it – the style that is.
Dope!
Favorite Quotes:
Fixing up things had been a hobby; the satisfaction I got when something was broken and then repaired was wonderful. It was just a shame I couldn’t fix my daughter. It was a shame I couldn’t fix myself.
It seemed I was losing the support of those that I trusted, of those closest to me. It was an isolating feeling and made me feel lonelier than I had before.
My Review:
I am stunned. Tracie Podger has mastered a new genre with an intriguing, perplexing, cryptic, confounding, heart squeezing, twisted, compelling, disturbing, and utterly fascinating story. Gabriel had me twisted and knotted like a pretzel, but I could not stop reading. Occasionally, I was even sickened by the tale, yet I could not put my kindle down. As always, Ms. Podger’s writing was insightful, emotive, smartly done, and well-crafted. I was drawn in from page one with a storyline that remained taut and fraught with tension, frustration, and a heartbreaking back-story. Gabe’s ranging emotions remained top-notes throughout and were nearly palpable in intensity. The premise could be boiled down to four Cs – Cults, Conspiracies, and Cover-ups – by and within – the Catholic hierarchy. Ever topical, and sadly – in today’s world – also frighteningly realistic.
This is the first book I have read by Tracie Podger and it certainly won’t be the last. This suspense read blew me away. Gabriel is a hardworking man who had a perfect life, until someone murdered his wife. The local law enforcement is unable to solve the murder so he vows to find the killer on his own. The story that Ms. Podger weaves is carefully constructed and very intricate. The writing is tight and the plot well paced and surprising on many levels. Her characters are well developed and realistic. I totally love Gabriel. He is broken by the loss of his wife but tries to remain strong for his daughter, Taylor. He has the support of his parents and friends but they don’t really see the devastation he feels from the loss of his wife. He is certain there is more to his wife’s murder than a simple burglary gone bad. When he finds a phone number and calls it, he sets his entire world on a path that will lead to more heartache and devastation before the murder is resolved.
His best friend, Thomas, happens to be the local sheriff. He never closed the murder case but has been at a standstill until new evidence comes to light. Little do the men realize that they are about to take on way more than they ever imagined. They will unleash harsh truths that rock the very foundation of Gabriel’s world. Gabe learns the truth of his wife’s past and the horrible life she lived before he knew her. He learns that she suffered at the hand of people who should be trusted, a priest, among others. He learns that the woman he loved hid her painful past, and though she loved him, she never shared her prior life with him. In trying to gain the truth of her murder, he finds he is battling not only a crazy man who set up children for abuse but possibly the entire Catholic church. His older brother offers aid, but being a bishop, he may not be someone that can be trusted, since everyone involved with the church is suspect.
Gabriel is a strong character, but when his wife’s sister comes into the picture, she tests that strength. He will go to any lengths to protect his daughter and his family. This book hits a lot of emotions and there is a lot going on: abuse, lies, family conflict, murder, intrigue and loss of faith. The resolution to the book is surprising and heartbreaking. To find his wife’s killer, Gabe may lose more than he ever believed possible. If you like well written, intelligent suspense this book is for you. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Podger comes up with next.
Gabriel I went into this book blind I never read the any teasers or blurb and it was truly a great book from the start I was Hooked I had to keep going to find out what was going on what had happened as we are kept guessing right from the start….
Gabriel is such a great man he had the perfect life the perfect wife and perfect family or so he thought his wife is Murdered and the police don’t seem to have any idea as to why and who has done it but Gabriel he swears she will find her Murderer himself… more he learns the more he starts to uncover secrets from the past and that people aren’t always who they seemed to be.
Gabriel He has a lot of support from his family and he has to stay strong for his little girl Taylor, but secrets that came out he realises he needs to protect his daughter. While struggling and confused by what he is learning the more and more we get into the story he doesn’t know who to trust anymore. This book will keep you guessing till the end! When the whole truth comes out I was really surprised as I really didn’t see that coming.
Ms. Pogder kept me on the edge of my seat throughout this book.
The Characters are so realistic and well developed… this book is really well written and has some touchy subjects that will not be for everyone…. This book is quite emotional at times hits on Abuse, lies, murder, religious cults.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book it kept me turning the pages and I really can’t wait to see what Tracie comes up with next.
“My name is Gabriel. I had a perfect life, a perfect wife, and now I am fighting for justice.”
Wow what a story. Let’s start with the cover. I don’t normally rave about covers but this cover is just so good and is very apt to the story.
This is a fast paced mystery thriller. Told from Gabriel’s point of view we read of how his perfect life fell apart when his wife was murdered. Along with taking care of his daughter, Taylor, Gabriel needs answers and to find his wife’s murderer. Although the police hit a brick wall in the investigation Gabriel won’t give up. He starts to unravel secrets and puts more lives in danger.
I seriously could not guess what was going to happen next. The twists kept coming and blew any thoughts I had out the window. Just when I thought I knew what way the story was going to go the author threw another twist at me.
This is a brilliantly twisted story that had me gripped to my kindle. I opened this up to read a few pages and ended up reading it all in one evening.
