Sometimes giving in is the win… nuts.
Helping animals is Lyndsey Heston’s calling in life. The veterinary technician/animal foster mom doesn’t have time for a boyfriend or dating or her unwanted attraction to the handsome new sheriff. He’s too buttoned up; too by-the-rules; too much like her father—a former sheriff; and definitely too darn hot for her own good.
After a particularly bad day, she finds herself sharing drinks—and a whole lot more—with the sexy sheriff whose kindness takes her by surprise. Soon compassion turns to passion and they both agree it’s just one night and they can go back to disliking each other in the morning.
Even though their ‘just one night’ turns into several, Gabe is certain he’s got a handle on the situation, until Lyndsey breaks up a dog fight ring and acquires a bullseye on her pretty head. The SEAL turned sheriff realizes there’s no rule or regulation he won’t break to keep her safe.

Gabe: I love that all of the men it the series are all former military of some type. They are all bonded as brothers. The woman that they all fall in love with are just as tough as they are. Gabe being the Sheriff is a special type of man besides being hot and has hot features. He cares a lot for the people of his town and doesn’t want to see any of them hurt. He believes that he doesn’t have time for a relationship because the job always comes first but he just doesn’t realize that he has to find the right woman that cares just as much. Lyndsey loves animals and has had a lot of luck when it comes to relationships but she loves getting under Gabe’s skin. They really are a match because of their work ethics and how they care so much. I loved the fire between them it was hot. Fantastic writing by Donna Michaels.
I really enjoyed this book.
This is a perfect book that shows even two people who are completely opposite in every way can still have off the charts chemistry.
Gabe is ex military turned sheriff. He is a “by the books” type of guy. His whole life is about protecting and following the law. Which is why even though he is very attracted to Lyndsey, he finds her very frustrating.
Lyndsey is a type of woman that if she sees an animal being abused, she will do anything to help it…even break the law. She has a very one track mind when it comes to this and puts her in danger. I have to admire her and her beliefs but she seemed to care more about this dog that her own well being and I did have a hard time with that.
The two of them were fun to watch circling each other. They were both interested but yet fundamentally they were completely different.
“Gabe” is the fourth book in the HC Heroes series, and it is the story of Gabe Bryson and Lyndsey Heston. Gabe is a former Navy SEAL turned sheriff and Lyndsey is a vet tech and animal foster mom. Lyndsey doesn’t always follow the law when she finds an animal in a bad situation, thus Gabe knows who she is and thinks of her as a PITA. Lyndsey thinks of him as stiff, and a stickler for rules. The two of them mix like oil and vinegar but that doesn’t stop the crazy chemistry between the two. So when one night turns into something more, Gabe isn’t real sure how to handle it. But when Lyndsey gets herself into trouble with people who have a dog fighting ring, Gabe realizes he will do whatever it takes to save her.
I loved this book, as always Donna Michaels makes the reader feel as if they are right there with the characters. Five “PITA” stars for this one and cannot wait on the next one in this series!
