Maccus Fury, a fallen angel, is trying hard to keep his sanity. Seems being an assassin might be catching up with him. Now, Heaven, or Hell, has sent a beautiful assassin to kill him. Lovely. She’s pretending to seduce him, and he’s okay with that. She’s smart and snarky–but she has no idea what she’s walked into. And he’s more than peeved that they only sent one person. They’re going to need an … to need an army if they want him dead.
Morrigan Quill is one of Hell’s bounty hunters. She sold her soul to keep her sister safe, and now she’s working off her contract by catching bad guys and dragging them back to hell. When Lucifer makes her a new offer–that’s definitely too good to be true–she can’t say no. All she has to do is kill a powerful and crazy-hot fallen angel, who will totally kick her ass in battle.
Good thing he won’t see what’s coming next.

Guess what? I’ve found a new author to stalk! N.J. Walters… where the heck have you been all of my life? I feel like I’ve been missing so many opportunities to fall in love with your words and your characters because Maccus and Morrigan were two examples of how incredibly talented you are!
Maccus Fury ↠ once an angel, he was betrayed by Gabriel and spent centuries battling for survival in the pits of hell. His time there turned him into a battle-weary warrior, a feared assassin known as The Hunter, the fiercest and strongest male alive, and a threat to all higher beings. An unwarranted enemy of both Gabriel and Lucifer, he becomes a player in a game he doesn’t know the rules to. Gabriel wants him to kill Morrigan Quill, a demon hunter who carries an innocence and a light to her. She’s the one person who is able to truly touch him, to unleash his emotions. Will she be the one to nurture the dwindling light of his soul?
Morrigan Quill ↠ a desperate attempt to save her sister had her sacrificing her soul to Lucifer. Destined for Hell, she’s trained to become a demon hunter and she’s darn good at her job. When the big boss orders her to kill in exchange for wiping her contract clean, how can she refuse? She was willing to do just about anything to guarantee her and her sister’s freedom. But what happens when she realizes that the man she’s supposed to kill can’t be killed? At least not by her. And he may be the one person who can make her feel free.
From the intriguing world building to the action-packed and suspenseful plot to the intriguing, I-can’t-get-enough-of-them characters, I was easily captivated by this story. My only complaint is that it has taken me this long to indulge in a story by Walters. Maccus was delicious, Morrigan was endearing, and I’m looking forward to what’s next in this series.
That was simply an awesome read! It had everything, and reviewing it without giving things away, well, let’s concentrate on what it made me feel. It had fast-paced action, so my heart was pumping and it had super sexy times, so my heart was pumping. It had regret, sadness, hope, love, despair, and compassion. It had souls that were nearly completely dark but had a sliver of light, and it had souls that the darkness that had been encountered could not dim their brightness. It had greed and manipulation, duplicity, where there should be none. It was a paranormal readers fantasy with major characters and mind-shifting events, and where good and bad aren’t absolutes. It had Maccus and Morrigan, and it is their story, of their journey, to each other, and to completion. It had everything, and I loved it all!
Fury Unleashed was a phenomenal start to the Forgotten Brotherhood series which follows a group of paranormals who get hired to kill other paranormals.
Maccus Fury, a fallen angel, clawed his way out of Hell and now works as an assassin to kill other paranormals. But working as an assassin has its’ costs and for Maccus that cost is his sanity. After Gabriel promises the return of his wings in exchange for killing a woman, Maccus is tempted although he doesn’t want to give the angel the satisfaction. When a beautiful assassin shows up to kill him, Maccus wonders if it was Heaven or Hell that sent her since they both want him dead. Morrigan Quill sold her soul to the devil to keep her sister safe and has worked as one of Hell’s bounty hunters ever since. When Lucifer makes her an offer in exchange for her freedom, she jumps at the chance. Now she just has to figure out how to kill a fallen angel without getting herself killed in the process.
Maccus Fury has been alive for thousands of years. From the moment Maccus lost his wings and was banished from Heaven, every minute has been a fight to survive. Now, Maccus is one of the deadliest creatures on Earth and for the right price he’ll take out the paranormal being of your choosing so long as they deserve what’s coming to them. Maccus was a fascinating character who I became more intrigued by the more we got to know him. With a history a mile long, Maccus has had the time to hone his skills and he’s incredible to watch in a fight. I loved getting to learn Maccus’s history and after learning what he went through, it was surprising to find he had any sanity left at all to try and save.
Morrigan Quill raised her younger sister Kayley for most of her life and would do anything to protect her. After Kayley dabbles in things best left alone, Morrigan is forced to give up her soul in exchange for her sister’s freedom. Promised to serve Hell for twenty-five years, Morrigan is only ten years into her sentence when Lucifer offers her the deal to kill Maccus. As one of Hell’s bounty hunters, Morrigan is still human although she has enhanced senses and some extra abilities. I admired Morrigan’s loyalty and how she made the best of a bad situation. I also really liked that she wasn’t some damsel in distress and was completely capable of handling things on her own.
Maccus and Morrigan’s first meeting happens while Morrigan is chasing a bounty and the two don’t realize who each other are yet. The chemistry between them is instantaneous and even after they learn they’re supposed to kill each other, that doesn’t diminish the attraction between them. The pair do jump into a sexual relationship almost immediately and the scenes were incredibly steamy. I prefer my romances to be more on the explicit end and this book delivers on that. I found the dynamic in the pair’s relationship to be interesting as they’re both on edge due to the fact they’re supposed to kill each other. But the pair managed to find common ground when they realized someone else is pulling the strings and they work well together as they try to figure out why. The ending of the book is well done with just the right amount of suspense to keep things interesting as well as a few surprising twists.
Overall Fury Unleashed was a fantastic start to the series and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Arctic Bite. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a steamy paranormal romance series to read.
Fury Unleashed is an epic tale of good versus evil. When a fallen angel assassin is contracted by Gabriel to kill a female demon bounty hunter, Maccus Fury thinks it’s all in a day’s work. Until he meets her. Morrigan Quill is a bounty hunter for Lucifer. Her only job is to locate demons who’ve spend too much time topside and send them home to Hell. When Lucifer offers to void her contract, releasing Morrigan and her sister, she jumps at the chance until he instructs her to kill someone. A very large, menacing looking someone. Her job does not include killing anything, ever.
Now Maccus and Morrigan must work together to find out what Gabriel and Lucifer are up to before one or both of them end up dead.
I thought Fury Unleashed was an amazing paranormal novel. The author provided a good versus evil story with more twists, turns, and events the reader won’t see coming to keep someone complete engaged, which I was. I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book. I enjoyed the path Maccus and Morrigan had to travel in order to get to their ultimate destinations.
Morrigan is a bounty hunter because in order to save her sister, Morrigan sold her soul. She is now serving a long sentence under the watchful eye of Emmett, her handler, and Lucifer. Her compassion and lover for her sister is evident throughout the whole book. As events, lies, and deceptions are revealed to Morrigan you can’t help but empathize with her. She’s pulled in many different directions, including right into the sights of Maccus.
Maccus has been kicked out of heaven and booted out of hell and just wants to be left alone on earth. The contract to kill Morrigan Quill has him concerned enough to find her and investigate why heaven wants her dead. He wasn’t planning on falling for his prey but fall he did – and hard. When the feelings are reciprocated their chemistry, affection, and steamy scenes just engulf the pages, the reader’s mind, and explode into all of the feels.
The author crafted a unique world and a story that was intriguing, and full of mystery, suspense, action, and wonderful characters. I was easily drawn into the book and found myself immersed. I look forward to the next book, Arctic Bite.
I was provided a copy of this book.

Morrigan is tired. She’s been a bounty hunter for Hell for more than ten years now. The position wasn’t by choice, she took it on contract to save her sister’s soul. Seems her sister had a unique ability to summon the devil himself, which didn’t go so well. Now she’s locked in for another 15 years, constantly on the run, always checking her back, knowing someone could be trying to kill her at any time. If she happens to die while under contract, she still goes to Hades, so dying isn’t really an option either. But Lucifer has a proposal and if she completes the deed, she will be free of the contract and free not only her own soul, but her sister’s as well. It isn’t exactly a job she can refuse, nor can she tell the devil no either. What she didn’t count on was that her contract was put on a fallen angel. He’s gorgeous, haunted, a loner, and she can’t seem to resist him. Even knowing Gabriel wants her dead and Maccus the one chosen by him to kill her isn’t diminishing the primal attraction one bit. But Morrigan is tied to Maccus in unexplainable ways and rather than try to kill him, even knowing his death will free her, she determines to save him – even if she has to give up her life to achieve his redemption.
Maccus fell from heaven thousands of years ago. Thrust into the bowels of Hades, he eventually escapes and turns rogue assassin on earth. Except Maccus has a requirement. Anyone he kills deserves it. He never involves or harms innocents. He never figured out why Gabriel turned on him in Heaven, and there is no love lost between them now. When Gabriel attempts to trap him into a contract to kill someone, he is immediately suspicious and avoids the trick. But Maccus needs to know what is so special about Morrigan that an angel wants her eliminated. He never thought he’d find his salvation in her. Maccus has a small sliver of his soul left, but the more he is forced to kill, the more that tiny light dims. He’s smart enough to know that if Lucifer and Gabriel are working together, that they are hoping Morrigan will toss him over the cliff he edges precariously close to each day. If he loses himself, both Heaven and Hades will come after him and sanction him. Not an option. So he fights with everything he has to thwart the conspiring angel and demon and keep Morrigan safe. He’s also figured out a bit about her heritage that she knows nothing about. Dropping the bombshell might push her away from him, but it’s a chance he has to take. If she turns away from him, it would be what he rightly deserves given his fall from grace and the multitudes he has killed.
Holy Moly! I have read N.J Walters previously. I am sure I have, but I cannot seem to remember what it was that I read. I picked up this book because the blurb sounded intriguing, but the cover completely caught me. Once I saw that, I was reading it for sure. Being unfamiliar with Ms. Walters work, I would have to guess that this is not Maccus’s first appearance within one of her books. I couldn’t say when or where, but based on the interactions between Maccus and Asher, they both have appeared prior to this series. Very little was said, yet there was an entire story beneath the words. So … given that assumption, there is another series or book out there by this author and the Forgotten Brotherhood seems to be a spin-off from it. I aim to find out all I can about these particular books. Maccus is extraordinary. He’s the quintessential example of the brooding, reluctant hero. Alone for thousands of years with only himself to rely on, he’s resigned to his life and basically existing. He ceased to live once he fell and knows there will never be any other kind of existence for him … until he meets Morrigan. She makes him feel things and want things that he closed his mind and heart to thousands of years ago. But, even knowing she is the one brought in to kill him, he is unable to resist her. If he can only have her for a while, he’ll take what he can get. Morrigan is of a similar mindset. She has no disillusions of any kind regarding a happily ever after in her future. With the heaviness of possibly murdering Maccus resting on her shoulders and still not entirely sure of which side of the fence she will come down on, she might as well indulge in the addicting passion that sparks whenever they are near one another. But the more time they spend together, the more their bond strengthens. Nefarious intent may have brought them together, but there is something else at work here – something bigger than either of them – even bigger than Gabriel and Lucifer – two conspiring idiots who may have just created a situation they never saw coming and sure as heck didn’t want.
This is the kind of book that I read for. When I complete the book and I can’t wait to get my hands on more … when I realize there was more to this story in some way and feel the need to seek it out … when I am well and truly caught from beginning to end. This! This is why I read! Not many books have the power to influence me in such a way. Not even books I absolutely adore and would likely read again. This is a different kind of draw – an all-consuming draw. I was pulled into this book from the very start and with the fast-paced, non-stop, thrilling content, I had little choice except to dig in and go along for the ride. And what a ride it was. Angels, demons, vampires, bounty hunters from hell, fallen angels … what’s not to like? I can’t say I was entirely surprised over how things with Kayley turned out, but the other reveal regarding Morrigan’s heritage was well played. And when you think about it, it makes sense. But the star of this book is definitely Maccus. When you take into consideration everything he has gone through over the last ten thousand years or so, his transformation is phenomenal. It isn’t hard to believe his internal struggle in disbelieving that Morrigan could love him. Not so quickly and certainly not so unconditionally. Admittedly, everything happens rather quickly within this story, but given the dangerous nature of Maccus and Morrigan’s lives, they don’t really have the luxury of time. I will say that Morrigan’s father makes an appearance and while I expected that it would happen at some point, I wish they could have had some time. However, with all of the information hinted at, the reader is left to make a few assumptions. And sometimes that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The outcome for both Maccus and Morrigan is just a bit rushed. I do not want to provide any spoilers, but it’s rather quick between impending doom and salvation and I wasn’t all that clear on exactly how it all came to occur. I mean, there was a prophecy and I get that, but man…It was quick. If I had any complaint, it would be how rapidly everything wraps up. I felt like we needed a bit more to the Epilogue. However, it also sets up the next book fairly well and I look forward to discovering more about the Forgotten Brotherhood and what Maccus’s role in it will be as they move forward in their new positions. What concerns me slightly is that the series claims each book can be a stand-alone, so I truly hope that doesn’t mean we won’t get to revisit with both Morrigan and Maccus in the future.
Besides the supernatural beings, this book is jam-packed with suspense, thrills and some passionate af sexual content between our lead characters. I mean, fan yourself, down and dirty, give me more, delicious passion. If you like the idea of a fantasy world in which these supernatural beings coexist with the average person and being taken on a crazy wild ride with edge of your seat suspense, then get the book. Ms. Walters delivers an action-packed, super-steamy, engrossing read that is sure to leave you hungry for more. And if none of that does it, then take a long look at that stunning cover. As a bit of a cover floozy myself, this one couldn’t be more appropriate for this book. Who wouldn’t be hooked by that deliciously sexy piece of art? I, personally, cannot wait to see the next cover, and definitely can’t wait to read the next installment as soon as I am able. I don’t know if Ms. Walters writes other than paranormal romance, but she’s definitely become one of my top authors within that genre overnight.

5 Cranky Stars
Maccus Fury was a warrior in heaven, betrayed by a friend and was cast to hell where he fought so hard to stay alive that even Lucifer was afraid and kicked him out. Over the years, many young upstart angels tried to assassinate him and they all failed. He had very little light left in his ever growing dark existence. Enter Morrigan, a bounty hunter of demons under contract with Lucifer. She gets orders to kill Maccus, while he is offered a contract to kill Morrigan. They have a chance meeting and sparks fly between these two, she is looking for freedom while he is searching for redemption, but pressure from Gabriel and Lucifer give them reason to question their motives and why they are being drawn into the petty squabbles between heaven and hell. Lots of twists and turns, betrayal, lust and love, that keep it entertaining and keeps you guessing what will happen next. I couldn’t put it down!
Spell-bindingly brilliant! Astoundingly breathtaking! Fury Unleashed is an epic masterpiece born from an unrelenting hope and a matchless love borne from nothing more then needing it in one’s life. This was a marvelous adventure that left you gasping for breath and gripping your chair with all your might while trying to not get run over by it’s fantastic charisma. I love stories with a depth and emotion to their wonderful twists and turns and this one provided them all with ease and grace. That is what I call powerful and stunning!
Maccus has lived for so long that he no longer savor life or its small treasures. His life has been more bad then good to continue to hold any optimism for the world and its inhabitants. He keeps to himself unless things get too out of hand and his driven to intervene. Morrigan has spent a decade loving for another. What she does each day is not for her. It is the ultimate display of love and loyalty. There is no such things as pleasure and fun as her days are filled with darkness and neverending duty. When these two world’s collide, boundaries are shattered and a menacing danger roars to life. Can these two figure out the danger that surrounds them before it’s too late, or will they listen to their heart and step beyond their stade life?
My heart nearly exploded when these two phenomenal characters found each other and all hell broke lose as they would say. There was something unstoppable that took place when these two came together. I loved the thorough exploration of their connected which made no sense at all. It was heart breaking and marvelous and pure. I thought I would lose my mind with the intensity of hope and love that naturally bloomed between them. It was incredibly refreshing and wonderfully blisssful.
N. J. Walters has seared and stolen my heart with this exquisite work of pure and unadulterated art. Nothing prepared for the genius with these pages, and I was shocked at the simple yet powerful depth within each word. It left me in awe and wanting so much more!! Do not miss out on this once in a lifetime talent and allow yourself to indulge in the decadence that is this incredible story.
Fury Unleashed by N.J. Walters is book One in the Forgotten Brotherhood Series. This is the story of Morrigan Quill and Maccus Fury. Wow! What a start to a series. Maccus was once a Angel but had his wings ripped from him after a incidnet. So now he has taken to being an assassin for hiring taking out the bad people. Morrigan’s little sister had made a very bad decision that cost Morrigan to chose between being in service to the devil for about 25 years or to have her sister die. So Morrigan life these last 10 years or so has been traveling paying servitude via bounty hunter. Now in both of their present day Maccus has been promised his wings back if he takes out Morrigan. Morrigan has been promised a debt paid in full if she takes out Maccus. When they meet both feel the sparks and the pull between them. But both have been on their own for so long with only themselves to trust. Both figure something is going on and things can not be so easy but they would have to trust each other and their building feelings to move forward.
I couldn’t not put the book down. Loved it and I hope to read more from this author soon!!
Fury Unleashed is book one in the brand new series, Forgotten Brotherhood, by N.J. Walters. I have to admit that first, I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover. But then, ladies and gentlemen, I read the book. WOW, WOW, WOW!!! This book pretty much rocked my world, and then some. And now that I’ve finished it, yes, the cover is perfect for the hero of this story! Now, let me tell you a little bit about it!
Maccus Fury is thousands of years old. He is also a fallen angel, the wings ripped from his back by Gabriel himself. Now, Maccus is an assassin for hire, taking out the evil of the earth while padding his bank account. He is alone, always, and he trusts no one. Then Maccus is offered what was to be the chance to earn back his wings. All he has to do is one job, kill one particular red headed woman. Easy, right? Only Maccus knows better. Things are never what they appear to be.
Morrigan Quill all but raised her little sister. But when her sister made a grave error in judgement, Morrigan was forced to make a choice. She chose to save her sister and signed a contract with the devil himself. Twenty five years as a demon hunter in exchange for her sister’s safety. Now, she’s only ten years in. She goes from cheap motel to cheap motel, from job to job. But then she is offered a chance by Lucifer himself to wipe the slate clean. One job. Kill one man. And her servitude is over. She is free.
“What was it about her that drew him? Why her? Why now?”
When Morrigan and Maccus meet, was it chance or was it pre-ordained? Both have learned not to trust anyone but themselves. But neither can deny the strong pull to each other. A chemistry that sparks as hot as an inferno. Even then, both accept the time they have to be together, knowing that one or the other of them will soon die.
“He was the hunter, and she was his prey. And she was more than ready to be caught.”
This entire book was one crazy, wild ride. And I have to mention, that it is HOT! These two burn up the pages. More importantly, though, this is a battle of good vs evil. And if you think you know what I mean here, you don’t. What this also is, is a testament to the power of love and goodness. Of learning to trust, of finding that one little spark of light within you and allowing it to flare to life. This book is one surprise after another and one heck of a surprise ending. I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. I’ll be right here waiting for it so I can tell you all about it.
Archangel Gabriel, Lucifer, demon hunter and fallen angel…Whoa! What a steamy story!
You would expect Gabriel and fallen Angel Lucifer to work at cross purposes, but what if they both wanted the same things? Great book. I felt happy, sad and even cried. Loved the ending after the tears.
Maccus Fury is a fallen angel who has been roaming the Earth for several millennia, not caring about anything or anybody. At heart he’s a “good” guy and along with others has banned together to form the Forgotten Brotherhood, a group of assassins who kill the monsters of the world, never the innocent.
Morrigan Quill is a bounty hunter for Lucifer. She gave him her soul for 25 years to free her baby sister’s life/soul. Morrigan has been given an opportunity to end this contract if she would just kill this one person: Maccus. He in turn as been asked to kill one person: Morrigan. What happens when their paths cross? There is an immediate attraction but what good would that do? Oh. My. This is one steamy PNR story (OMG the shower scene or the diner scene and many others). This would make one stupendous action movie!
If you like Angels, Demons and those around them, read this book. This was a different genre for me, but I loved it! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled/NetGalley and it comes highly recommended.
Fallen Angel Assassin? Check. Hells best bounty hunter? Check. Physical attraction off the chart? Check. Pitted against each other by each side? Check Check!
Maccus is the best at what he does. With a loose collection of like-minded fallen angels he created the Brotherhood. Now his former friend, the Archangel Gabriel (yes that one!) has ordered him off a demon of Hell. Um maybe not so much a Demon herself, Morrigan just works for the head honcho of Hell, thank you very much!
Morrigan made the ultimate sacrifice to save her sister. But she has years to go on the deal she made with the devil. And we know how good he is at stacking those in his favour! But if she kills Maccus, he’ll burn said deal and she’ll be free and clear to claim back her life. Easy, right?
Morrigan is not a demon or evil. She just got suckered into a very tight corner and she does her best to retain as much of her former life as she can. Maccus is almost 100% Neanderthal LOL. He is beyond Alpha and you really do expect him to just carry Morrigan back to his cave sometimes! But he has a code of honour and once he and Morrigan realise they are being pitted against each other, they make a very blood thirsty but motivated team.
Whilst the passion between them runs hot, the best thing for this couple is the trust they build in the other. I’m so going to enjoy learning all about the other members of the Brotherhood!
**I received a copy of Fury Unleashed by N. J. Walters from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are mine alone and not solicited in any way.**
Fury Unleashed by N. J. Walters is one kick a** book and I wonder how did I not read anything before by this author? Holy Cow this book will suck you in with the push and pull by Gabriel and Lucifer and their quest to get rid of both Maccus and Morrigan and then spit you out on the other side! I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars as its worthy of so many more. I can’t wait for the next book just on the basis of the teaser at the end of the story.
Morrigan Quill is not only one of Hell’s bounty hunters she’s also a very good one and is counting down the time left in her contract with Lucifer. See she sold her soul to keep you younger sister safe but little does she know that things are not only going to change with her contract to kill Maccus Fury, yep you guessed it that little sister… May not be as innocent as she thinks. When Gabriel gives Maccus a contract for Morrigan it doesn’t take much to start thinking that one fallen angel and one bounty hunter are going to fall for each other all while trying to figure out why Heaven and Hell want them dead. I’m not going to say anything more because I don’t want to spoil the story so you’ll just have to read it.
What a great set up! Assassins pitted to assassinate each other in a complex PNR world. Loved it with these main characters: Maccus, the angel who lost his wings, and Morrigan, a bounty hunter for Lucifer. Both are offered deals if they assassinate the other. Of course they discover things are not all they seem, but to go against the orders of Lucifer and an angel takes a lot of guts.
The book dishes up all the feels as it steams up between these two characters. Action packed and mesmerizing read. Wholly recommend.
3.5/5 Stars

When I stumbled upon this beautiful cover and riveting synopsis about a fallen angel and a demon bounty hunter I knew that I have to read this! This story really captivated me.
I really liked the main characters. They were very likable and surprisingly relatable. I think that there were some missed opportunities with the characters in terms of complexity. They could have used a lot more depth. The character growth was sufficient for the amount of information that we are given about the characters. Again, some missed opportunities there. For instance, Forgotten Brotherhood is the name of the series and very little was explained about it in this book. The characters were still enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the writing. The author’s voice is one that really spoke to me and I found myself lost in the pages of this book easily. The writing was smooth and elegant at the same time.
This story is very character-based. There isn’t an awful lot of world-building and a lot of it builds off of what the reader is already familiar with in the paranormal genre. There is certainly enough for the story to get by and be satisfying but I would have liked to see more original world-building. Even though the world-building was limited, I still had a good sense of things around the characters. The world-building components just didn’t have a lot of depth. The plot of the story was something that also needed some more depth. While I liked the way that things ended in the story, the journey could have used some more details.
The romance in the story was definitely hot but it was a little too instalove for my taste. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the romance, because I did, but the instalove still rubbed me the wrong way. I did like the connection that Morrigan and Maccus had and I really enjoyed watching them get close.
Overall, this was an exciting story that was super fun to read. It could have used more depth in many areas but it was a good read nonetheless. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. I am very curious about the other members of the Forgotten Brotherhood and I am eager to see how the characters from this book connect in everything. If you are into hot paranormal romance then I would definitely give this one a shot.
Maccus Fury is a fallen angel just trying to keep his sanity. Now an assassin himself, another assassin has been sent after him. She’s smart and beautiful and he thinks pretending to seduce him. Although he doesn’t get why they think that they only need one assassin to take him out and not an army! Morrigan Quill is one of Hell’s bounty hunters. She sold her soul in order to keep her sister safe, even knowing what was in store for herself. She has a hundred years to go and is just hoping to make it that far without failing. When Hades gives her another offer (that she knows has to be too good to be true) she doesn’t feel she has a choice but to take it. All she has to do is kill the fallen angel that she knows could kill her with a flick of his wrist.
I wish this would let me give half stars on here. I would say more of a 4.5 than just a 4! I really liked this one! It’s the perfect way to start a new series and left me wanting more! Maccus is this strong man with an absolute heart of gold who got such a raw deal. And for what? I hate what happened to him! But his relationship with Morrigan is, in my opinion, perfect. He finally gets something that he truly deserves to have, someone who loves him and is willing to give herself up for him! And it’s beautiful. Morrigan is this woman who gave up everything because of the love she has for her sister. She has an exceptionally beautiful soul and is willing to do anything and everything for the people that she loves. I loved the twist towards the end with regards to her family that I didn’t see coming! The only reason I didn’t give this one 5 stars was because I was left with some questions in regards to her sister. I felt like there were a few things that were left out and I felt a little lost with regards to her. I honestly can’t wait for the next one!!
Still getting my fix in on paranormal too with this author having not been on my horizon for awhile so this caught my attention. She knows how to take us somewhere else and incorporate us into a tale that will have us gone for stretches. Maccus and Morrigan both seem to have had a heavy past but also now their present is soon to come face to face. The interaction will keep us focused on them with the drama keeping us there. They are going to show us a thing or two that will go hand in hand with trust as just one of them. This was a pleasure indeed.
Like many of us, reading has been a hard thing to do. But I’m happy to say that I completely devoured N.J. Walter’s, Fury Unleashed, in one sitting. There were a couple things here and there that kept me from giving this 5 stars, but overall, it was a decent start to what’s to come. And boy are we all in for a treat when it comes to the Brotherhood.
From the very beginning, there’s no doubt that Maccus and Morrigan are absolutely hot for one another. Normally I don’t mind a lot of s*x in a book, but I think they gave into passion a bit too much to the point where it took me out of the actual story.
I loved learning about their back story and was hoping for more depth into not only the plot, but their character development as well. However, I really liked the idea of having these two pinned against each other. All the tension you can imagine, is there and I was kind of here for it. Having these two essentially against each other it brought up a lot of questions that I desperately needed to be answered.
There’s a few story arcs going on that me interested the whole time, all but one was solved. Which is the one that I’m sure will be going through the rest of this series.
I thought this was a great start to the Forgotten Brotherhood series, I am so eager to learn about who the rest of the Brotherhood is. I’ve been a huge fan of Walter’s Drakon series, so I’ll be adding this series to my anticipated reads.
**AN ARC WAS PROVIDED IN EXCHANGE FOR A REVIEW**
I am an N.J. Walters fan. I’m going to start there.
The first book of hers I read was Night of the Tiger from Hades’ Carnival series. The start of that book is so mind twisty; I was in love! And right before the fall for a small publisher I did regular ARC reviews for folded she did two Alice in Wonderland retellings–and everyone, and their brother, knows what an Alice fiend I am. Expect me to say good things.
Maccas Fury has all the passion of a doorknob.
Wait! I said to expect me to say GOOD THINGS! What the hell?
Maccas is a fallen angel, part of the Forgotten Brotherhood, and been around Earth since angels became a thing, and they got pitched down for being unruly brats. He’s had a lot of time to develop that lack of passion. And he’s on his last nerve, a moment away from the darkness. So let’s let sleeping passionless doorknobs be irritable with a touch of alluring.
On the other side of our epic battle is someone a whole lot less divine. More than human these days, but full of the goodness a pure heart infuses, Morrigan Quill is trying to re-write the mistakes of her little sister if she can work off Kayley’s debt and keep her out of hell than they can both escape Lucifer.
If only agents of Heaven and Hell wanted things to work out for Morrigan and Maccas–because Lucifer and Gabriel have pitted the two against one another, and someone is going to die.
That isn’t a spoiler, so you don’t need an alert. It’s a guarantee and N.J. Walters promises it. Don’t fire the author or the enforcer. Just read the damn book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
Maccus Fury is a fallen angel who has become an assassin. When Gabriel shows up wanting to hire him to kill Morrigan Quill he wants to find out why. Morrigan is a bounty hunter who sold herself to the devil, when he shows up wanting her to kill Maccus she is not sure what he has done to tick off the Lucifer. Thinking she will seduce him she does not expect that the attraction is mutual or that Maccus is out to end her as well. Now they are fighting the growing feelings for one another while staying alive at the same time.
There is so much more to this particularly with Morrigan she has a huge back story that plays into the plot. I thought this was a terrific kick off to a new series. I liked the build up and thought it was a refreshing take to this type of storyline. A new series that will knock your socks off.
What happened when an Assassin Fallen Angel and Hell’s Bounty Hunter met? You get a fast paced, with lots of sexy times in Fury Unleashed. This is the latest series by N.J Walters which has the potential to be as popular as her other series which I enjoyed like Salvation Pack, Legacy and Blood of the Drakon.
Maccus is our Fallen Angel and he’s been contracted by Gabriel to kill Morrigan who is bound for 25 years by Lucifer to be Hell’s Bounty Hunter. To make the premise interesting, Lucifer in return ordered Morrigan to find and kill Maccus by any means necessary. Sounds easy? Not when both Maccus and Morrigan found themselves to be attracted to each other and all they want to do is get into each other’s pants instead of the directives that was given to them.
On the whole I enjoyed Fury Unleashed but then again, I’ve always enjoyed N.J Walters’ works. I would love to have more detailed world building, to be honest, I expected it as much being this is the first book of the series. Usually authors would laden us with loads of backstory, secondary characters etc. However, not so much in this book but that didn’t put me off. Having met the Forgotten Brotherhood, I couldn’t wait to read their individual stories.
I was lucky enough to received this copy from Netgalley, however, the views above are all my own.
