Rebecca Yarros knows how to write an emotional read like no one else. This was the first book of hers I fell in love with & this series is one of my all-time favorites!
This is a book that is soaked in heartbreak. From the first chapter when (Dec)Ember starts to go through the worst summer of her life. The light in the darkness? The long time crush and boy next door Josh. Their relationship is such a slow burn despite them both having feelings for each other for a long time and there’s plenty of angst and push and pull. This certainly doesn’t feel like a debut and I’m excited for the rest of this series for sure.
This possibly the most emotionally, heartbreaking but heartfelt story I have read in a long time. This was a phenomenal story of grief, strength, and overcoming. I absolutely loved and adored every single second of this book. It’s the kind of story that will stick with you for a long time.Wonderful story!
Really enjoyed reading this book. Losing people you love will change you. But they way you live your life after says a lot about the person you are. I cried and laughed threw this whole book. Collage kids and the military all in one book. Love of family too!!!
If you are looking for an angsty military romance this is for you! This book had me in my feelings from the first to very last chapter. It was sad, sweet, and yet hopeful too. Josh is a book boyfriend like no other. You could feel Josh and Ember’s connection from the beginning. I definitely hope to see more of this sweet couple!
It’s amazing how your life can change in an instant. A simple knock on the front door. A ‘tale tell’ sign that everything that you knew was good in your life was about to change. That one single moment a catalyst for the pain that was sure to come. A fear of how that moment changes it all……
Those three raps at the door changed Ember’s life that day. It was her birthday, but now would forever be associated with the day that her father’s life ended while on a tour. As Ember watched her mother fall to pieces, she knew that the hard decisions that kept their family moving were now falling upon her shoulders. What she never expected was to find a ‘savior’ in the arms of her brother Gus’ hockey coach…..Josh Walker.
The hockey star that haunted her dreams in high school was now finding his way into her life. Josh seemed to always know when Ember was over her head dealing with the struggles that faced her siblings and mother. He even stepped up to help care for Gus during the days that followed. A shoulder to lean on when she felt she could do no more. A set of strong arms to carry Ember when she felt she couldn’t go on.
As the two spent more time together, they fight it harder to fight the fireworks that are swirling around them. Josh – ever the gentleman – making sure he always lets Ember have the final say in how their relationship proceeds. When they find that fighting their attraction is no longer an option, a secret from Josh’s life is revealed. Will it be the thread that unravels everything that they have built up to this point? Can Josh hold on to the one person that sets a fire in his soul?
My….oh my….what a beautifully written story!!! Each detail about life in the military is accurate and detailed throughout the book. Josh and Ember face the loss, commitment, and honor that exists for each family faced with the trials and triumphs of giving their entire existence to keeping this nation safe. Rebecca Yarros has captured each heart wrenching moment in a way that leaves you longing to know more about these two amazing characters.
Everything about Full Measures is captivating!! An excellent book that will take you on an emotional journey that will leave you believing in true love! Loved every single word that was definitely written with an amazing amount of heart and soul.

Review:
For some reason I was hesitant to read this book. Don’t know why. But I’m glad I finally picked it up. Once I started I wasn’t able to put it down. Some of the ‘surprises’ where a bit predictable to me but the author waited till the last second to reveal it so it had me doubting at some point.
There where some things that I wish where explained a bit better, like why Ember and Josh liked each other in high school while they had zero interaction with each other. I think that if that was established a bit better then their current relationship would feel less insta loveish. It wasn’t really insta love, but it was intense from the start without really explaining how come. To me atleast.
The romance was a bit sappy sometimes, bordering on unrealistic at times.
But overall I really enjoyed this book and I bought the other books in the series. I’m really looking forward to Jaggers book, I liked him.
What is this book about:
This book is about December, or Ember as she is called by everyone. She is a 20 year old college student who’s father is in the military. The book starts with her entire world falling apart by three simple knocks. It’s something that every military familie hopes never happens but sadly happens to often. It (often) means that a loved one isn’t coming home. This is the case with Embers father. It changed everything for her.
But not everything changes for the worse, it caused her to meet/reconnect with her old crush Josh. Ember is the person that tries to help everyone, that is trying to carry her entire family and keep them going. But who is helping her? That is what Josh is willing to do. He is willing to be her whatever.
What did I like/love:
I loved that, and it may sound weird, this book dealt with such heavy and real emotions. Loss is a difficult thing and everyone deals with it differently.
I also loved Josh, he was almost to good to be true. Somethings he said where a bit sappy, never heard a man speak like that, but I liked it.
What did I dislike/hate:
Nothing I really disliked or hated. Just some things that I wished where developed a bit more to make it a bit more believable. Like the connection Josh and Ember had with each other. I got why Ember was taken with Josh, but why was he so willing to do everything for her.
Rating:
4 I really liked it Stars
4.5 Stars
I can’t believe that I’ve had Full Measures for 5 years and haven’t read it! While I’m not normally a big reader of New Adult, I loved this book!
After her father dies, Ember has to pick up the pieces of her family- her mom, younger sister, and young brother. but who supports her? Josh, a guy that Ember had a crush on in high school and who also coaches Ember’s brother’s hockey team, steps in to help her with whatever she needs. And maybe there’s feelings on both sides, but life is throwing a lot at both of them.
Rebecca Yarros did a wonderful job of weaving these characters into difficult situations, and really making the reader think (well, at least me). I loved the characters- they felt so real to me. And as a military brat myself, I appreciated the honesty about what that life is like, as well as the truth about it.
I’m moving on to the rest of the Flight & Glory series!
One of my all time favorite books. Made me cry.
Blown. Away. That is what I am currently. It’s 2:19 in the morning and I’ve been reading this book and crying my eyes out. This book took me by complete surprise. I will say that when I think of military romance I immediately go to “I’m part of a super secret covert military special forces team but my cover has been blown and now I’m about to fall in love with this woman because I have to save her life.” Yea… every time. That is what goes through my mind. This book…. so not that. I think the thing that actually grabbed my attention about this book was the hockey aspect. I love me some hockey romance. And I have had this book sitting in my room (along with the second book) for over a year but I wouldn’t pick it up because of this preconceived notion of what a military romance book would look like. But, through Romanceopoly, I was forced to pick up a military romance and oh my damn. THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING. I worried that the steamy factor wouldn’t be there, wrong. I thought hockey would be a cliff note, wrong again. I just… I can’t. This book was so perfect. The book starts with a knock on the door at December’s house. She answers and everything changes. You meet Josh, who Ember had a crush on 5 years ago, when she was 15. Josh attempts to help Ember and nothing I can say will properly convey that if you haven’t read this book then you need to get to it pronto. I have been on like an all dark, angst filled, angry asshole romance kick for months. I thought, nothing is going to capture and keep my attention except that type of story. Then Rebecca Yarros rode in and was all, nuh uh girl… here, read this. And now all I want to do is binge the f-k out of this series and anything else with Rebecca’s name on it. Seriously, you have to pick this book up if you’ve been an uniformed ignoramus like me and haven’t yet. Gah. Absolute. Perfection.
Such an emotional book! So worth the money. Really loved everything about it
Loved the book and the follow on book Hallowed ground.
I read the whole series and loved every book!
oh. my!!! I don’t even know what to say. I absolutely loved this book! It had me crying before I made it through the first chapter! Yes, this book made me ugly cry! But, it was so worth it. I cried in other spots throughout the book and laughed at parts as well! It was well written and I cannot wait to start the second book!!!
