Jaxon Jennings. Cop. Homicide detective. Partner. He always had your back and rarely made mistakes.
Until the death of his son. Until the night he couldn’t save him. Until everything he held dear was taken away from him.
Now, a shell of a man, his reckless actions mark him as a burn-out. A Loner. A dangerous man whom many in the Fairfax County Police Department cannot trust. The criminals he … The criminals he pursues in the suburbs of Washington D. C. are nothing more than ways to bide his time until his next drink, next fix, next loss of control. His past haunts him no matter how hard he tries to hide from it.
So, when a boy’s body shows up floating under the ice of a quiet neighborhood pool, Jaxon finds himself immersed in a world where the ghosts of his past feel too close for comfort. A psychopath is using the innocent in ways that appear familiar.
Jaxon’s past is catching up with him. And the anger that seethes below the surface threatens to destroy not only his life, but the lives of a group of kids somehow connected with him. The answers are locked, frozen in the part of his past he refuses to confront. But people are counting on him. And he must do anything to save them.
Anything. Even if it costs him his life.

Predictable.
Twisted only in the extreme cruelty of the villain. I liked the characters and also thought some of the young people showed some carelessness in bypassing the law or by taking the law in their own hands. Loved the plot twists!
Some strange characters but interesting interactions among characters. Much better than I expected it to be.
didn’t like it
Book was great, kept me turning the page waiting to see what else would happen. Never guessed the surprise ending! Some was a little unrealistic, but made storyline/plot kept me reading.
Didn’t realize it was part of a series. I figured story would be over when book was finished which irritated me cuz I wouldn’t have invested my time in reading it.
A real page turner that had me signing up for more of the author’s books. Some real surprises.
This might be the worst book I ever read, and I read a lot. The plot was unbelievable, the characters unrealistic, the details beyond implausible. There are so many aspects that defied explanation: for example how does a 16 year old boy keep a body frozen and out of sight for27 years. Why did I keep reading it? To see if I could figure out how …
I could not put it down! I’m hooked!
There were some twists within the story which caught me by surprise and kept me reading into the night. An excellent and entertaining book.
This is an interesting mix of story from a teen’s perspective and from an adult’s perspective. Good mystery. A few twists. Quick read.
Not well written. Obvious outcome.
I didn’t want to put it down until I finished it.
A killer after teenagers is one step ahead of a group of teenage friends. Trying to solve the identity before the police only gets the kids deeper into trouble.
A heart warming story – one roots for the characters all through the horror!
Violence in any way you want to dish it out. Made me feel kind of ill that this is what many enjoy as entertainment. Clearly not my cup of tea. Teens not believable in their thought process and actions (IMHO). Going up against a killer who kills and kills some more both pets and people. A cop who walks away from it all and is also a drunk but his …
This is a great thriller, does contain violent descriptions and horrendous acts. Delves into characters in different ways and how they handle what is going on. Can go from normal teen ager stuff to heavy adult stressors.
Great book
Good book – a bit creepy at times, but good!
Just could not get into the story line at all-
