Jaxon Jennings. Cop. Homicide detective. Partner. He always had your back and rarely made mistakes.
Until the death of his son. Until the night he couldn’t save him. Until everything he held dear was taken away from him.
Now, a shell of a man, his reckless actions mark him as a burn-out. A Loner. A dangerous man whom many in the Fairfax County Police Department cannot trust. The criminals he … The criminals he pursues in the suburbs of Washington D. C. are nothing more than ways to bide his time until his next drink, next fix, next loss of control. His past haunts him no matter how hard he tries to hide from it.
So, when a boy’s body shows up floating under the ice of a quiet neighborhood pool, Jaxon finds himself immersed in a world where the ghosts of his past feel too close for comfort. A psychopath is using the innocent in ways that appear familiar.
Jaxon’s past is catching up with him. And the anger that seethes below the surface threatens to destroy not only his life, but the lives of a group of kids somehow connected with him. The answers are locked, frozen in the part of his past he refuses to confront. But people are counting on him. And he must do anything to save them.
Anything. Even if it costs him his life.

It is a book that kept my attention throughout my reading. I read only at the end of the day and I looked forward to getting to it each evening.
This book involves some very mysterious happenings and some very curious and precocious teens that seemed to be targeted by a crazy killer. The policeman in the book was haunted by the death of his son, …
Just finished reading Frozen Past by Richard Hale and it was really a page-turner! If you start this book late in the day, be prepared to stay up all night reading. It’s hard to put down with all the suspense, action, and tech discovery involved. This is a new favorite author of mine. Loved it!
When I picked this up, reviews stated it was about Jaxon, burnt out cop, tragic past on a new case. This is more about Luke. Eliana, Jimmy and other teens dealing with a scary predator in their own back yard. Granted Jaxon and his ex wife Victoria become involved in this spooky case but the teens do most of the heavy lifting.
From a suburban town …
Amazing and frightening
Creepy I did not like to read about kids getting killed
The side characters are much more interesting than the main characters. The ending goes well beyond anything anyone would believe – including: the FBI, facing a serial child killer (and police killer) who publicly threatens to kill again, assigns one agent to the investigation with some local police help.
Lots of good character interactions but I did guess whodunnit way to early in the tale…I don’t know if that was intended by the author.
Great!
Slow read. It didn’t hold my attention at all.
a terrific book if you like mystery
Details painted the picture!
Enjoyed the book
A dark read but captivating.
Good plot!
Couldn’t get past the severed dog head. Who writes stuff like that? Why? No thanks. I am starting to understand that (sometimes) free books are not worth the price.
liked the book .
Good book forvfree
I truly enjoyed this book. Look forward to reading the next book
Preteens I know wouldn’t use the language these characters use.
I couldn’t really get into this book. It seemed to drag.
