The storm sweeps in like a thief in the night…Winter storm Holly is the worst in eighty years bringing high winds, subzero temperatures and snowfall better measured in feet than in inches. The weather paralyzes everything in its path, but in this storm, weather isn’t the only threat. Abbey Gray, a NYT bestselling thriller author, needs time away from the madness of deadlines and personal … personal appearances as well as her big city life in Manhattan. The timing seems perfect for her to return to her small hometown in Montana to finally put the family home on the market. Except the storm of the century is descending on Montana, sweeping in with more than just bad weather—her closest neighbor is murdered. The murder stirs painful memories from the past of another murder–Abbey’s mother. Can the eerily similar details of her neighbor’s murder be proof that she was wrong all those years ago? Did the older brother she worshipped actually kill their mother? Now that his prison sentence has been served, is he back for revenge? Abbey must find the truth about the past before she becomes the next victim!
Sheriff Garrett Gilmore has known Abbey and her family his entire life. In truth, he has been in love with her since they were kids. All those years he hoped that one day she would come back, knowing it likely wouldn’t happen. But he can’t worry about that at the moment, he has a homicide to solve and a murderer to catch, all with the storm of the century bearing down on his county. Keeping Abbey safe will test the boundaries of his defenses.

I really enjoyed Frozen Ground, the first book in the “Stormwatch series which was written by different authors. I have read quite a few of Ms. Webb’s books and have always found them to be exciting, full of mystery, suspense and romance. In this book, author Abbey Gray returns home to settle her deceased father’s estate. Her brother was recently released from prison for the murder of their mother, but she and her father believed that he was innocent. Sheriff Garrett Gilmore has always been interested in Abbey, but has not seen her since she moved to New York. As a storm moves in, an elderly woman is found murdered in similar circumstances as her mother. A complex mystery that has both Abbey and Garrett questioning whether Abbey’s brother could be involved. I read this book through Kindle Unlimited and so enjoyed it that I voluntarily wrote this review. (by paytonpuppy)
Overall I really enjoyed Debra Webb’s Froze Ground. The story had a nice pace, never bored, and didn’t waste words. And while I was pretty sure the obvious suspect wasn’t guilty, the truth of what had happened all the years before had a nice twist. The romantic elements were light. While I personally prefer a little more development of the romantic aspects in my reading choices, the relationship between the characters was nice, believable, and well written. So even though the booked leaned more on the suspense than the relationship between the characters, for all you romantic suspense readers out there, this one is a good one to add to your reading list.
Fast paced mystery, that’s quick and easy to read with great characters and twists (although, I did figure out whodunit before the reveal) to fill the evening hours.
Frozen Ground is a real page turner. A murder and an impending winterstorm combine to threaten Abbey Gray who has returned to Montana to pack up the family home to prepare it for sale. Her neighbor has been murdered in the same way as her mother years earlier. Her brother Steve was convicted of the murder and was recently released from prison. Sheriff Garrett Gilmore fears that Steven committed this latest murder and will be coming after his sister. Abbey cannot believe that this murder or that he murdered their mother years earlier.
What a fast paced suspenseful book this was! Loved that while reading this book it honestly felt like you were there in Montana getting ready for the storm of the century Holly.
Fallow Holly onto the journey to find the truth all those years ago. The answer will be shocking. The storm isn’t the only thing that’s dangerous, will everyone come out all right? Grab a blanket its going to be a chilly ride threw this book!
Abby Gray returns home to sell her parents home, after her dad passed away 14 months ago.. 16 years ago her mother was brutally murdered… her brother Steven was accused of this brutal attack on her mom.. sending him to prison.. for a crime that he was accused of doing… now the time has come to sell the Family home because there’s no family left she hasn’t seen her brother for all these years after he got out of prison there’s been no contact. Abby just wants to get back home But
Now there’s been another murder just like the one of her mother’s. right next door, Steven is out of prison, everyone in the town believes steven is the Killer. This cold blooded killer leaves his victims on The Frozen Ground…
I have read many books by Debra Webb. I have not read one that I have not absolutely loved I recommend her books to everyone. Pick up your copy December 5th and enjoy you won’t be able to put it down I love her stories. and this one well as well.they just keep getting better and better. Thank you Debra.
Family tragedy often sends us back to a place that holds both good and bad memories. This book does that–on steroids. And along with the protagonist, we learn that things are always as they appear–now or back then. The story had a lot of realization points, but also an awakening point. An interesting, compelling read.
This book set in Montana during a secere winter storm sets you up for the desolate snowy encounter between good and evil.
The premise is off to a good start as Abbey, a thriller crime writer goes back to her home to sell her father’s home. Abbey is having trouble with her latest book and needs to attend to business but her parent’s home is calling her.
Abbey has a past that she hides and has avoided returning to her hometown but now her father is dead and the house needs to be sold. Her very first boyfriend, Garrett, is now the sheriff of the town. Abbey thinks she can stay in the home and prepare it for sale during a blizzard and clear her head but the past is there with her….the murder of her mother in front of the neighbors by her brother, Steven.
During the storm she has only the neighbors, the Hansons that accused Steven of the crime.
But death also follows her to this isolated area.
Crisp writing, characters are well developed and the storm adds an extra dimension as the tension ratchets up. The past collides with the present and more murders take place.
My only problem is how could her father believe Steven was unjustly convicted and yet stay close friends to the couple next door ….Mrs. Hansen helped get Steven arrested and tried. I find it hard to believe that Abbey and her dad could go about their lives with the Hansens …..but they did….and that is the part I had trouble with.
The plot holds together nicely and is spooky and can be read in one long sitting……hard to put down. A nice scarey read for a cold wunter night. 4.3 stars
Unique idea for a series based on a killer winter storm
Abbey Gray, a NYT best-selling thriller author, has just returned to her small hometown of Livingston, Montana for the first time since her father’s funeral fourteen months ago. She is getting the family property ready to sell.
It’s difficult to be back home, remembering her father but also remembering her brother who was convicted and has been in prison for murdering their mother.
Now the worst winter storm in memory bears down on their town but also there are other deadly happenings that cause Abbey to be looking to her long-time best friend Sheriff Garrett Gilmore for help.
Believable characters and setting make this short novel, first in a series about Winter Storm Holly, fun to read.
Debra Webb delivers another winner with this nail-biting, romantic suspense novel.
Debra Webb launches the multi-author STORMWATCH series with a page-turning romantic suspense that delivers the great characters, fabulous plot twists and page-turning thrills her readers can always expect. Highly recommended.
Frozen Ground is book one in the Stormwatch series, each book written by a different author. Frozen Ground is one of those books you just cannot put down. I loved the chemistry Abbey and Garrett have. Throw in a murder and a massive storm, and you have a mix that is undeniably captivating. I highly recommend this book.
This is the first book in what promises to be a great series!

A major snow storm Holly is about to descend on a little town in Montana as Abbey Gray arrives to clean out and sell her childhood home, now that she’s alone in the world. Well not alone exactly, she has a brother who has recently been released from prison. He served his sentence, for the murder of their mother.
As the massive storm descends, Sheriff Garrett Gilmore the local law, is called to a homicide at a fairly remote home. The murder of an elderly Dottie Hanson.
When Garrett finds out his best friend since childhood, Abbey, has arrived home and her’s is the next house from the murder. He goes to make sure she’s safe.
Abbey and Garrett have a history that is complicated a connection that has endured for over 20 years. Neither one has ever married and they always find time to get together when she comes home to visit. Finding a killer and keeping Abbey safe is paramount to Garrett but the storm is relentless and as another body is discovered he knows the killer is still out there. Abbey is confused about her feelings for Garrett, they are just childhood friends, right?
Very good read! Debra Webb has a real talent of keeping you interested and she keeps you guessing. Follow the massive and destructive snow storm Holly, into the next state, Colorado in Deep Freeze by Vicki Hinze
Frozen Ground
Debra Webb
A winter storm by the name of Holly is barreling its way towards Livingston, Montana just as Abbey Gray returns to pack up her lifetime memories at her childhood home. The murder of her neighbor which is very similar to her mom’s murder years ago brings back all the anguish and heartache of that time. The sheriff, her good friend Garrett, is now tasked with solving this current murder. It looks as if it leads back to her brother, Steven. Finding out he has disappeared leads to thinking he has come back to get revenge.
Wonderful characters and storyline. Can’t put it down.
Abbey Gray moved from her home in Montana to follow her dreams and became a NYT bestselling thriller author. She has returned to pack up her family home and put it on the market after her father’s death. But Abbey’s timing couldn’t have been worse. Winter storm Holly is barring down and taking aim at Montana and she is expected to be the worst in eight years. In the middle of all this, Abbey’s neighbor is murdered. Murdered in a way that is far too reminiscent of her mother’s murder years ago.Sheriff Garrett Gilmore has been Abbey’s best friend for most of her life. As kids they shared everything but Garrett has a secret. One that he doesn’t know what to do about. You see, Garrett has been in love with Abbey most of his life but fears it is only one-sided.
As Holly plows through Montana, Garrett is hip-deep in more than snow. Trying to protect Abbey and bring a murderer to justice just might truly be the end of him.
Frozen Ground is book one in this amazing six author series and Debra Webb did what she does best. This lady knows how to write edge of the seat suspense and Frozen Ground is no exception! You can feel the tension as each page-turning step hurls the reader to the heart-pounding conclusion.
FROZEN GROUND ushers in a new series, STORMWATCH, which promises to be terrific! Debra Webb takes us to Montana in midst of worst snowstorm of century. Abbey returns to family home for some down time from her hectic career to encounter murder of her neighbor and to resurrect memories of her mother’s demise. This book is AWESOME and I’m counting the days till DEEP FREEZE is released!!!
This was another book that I couldn’t put down of Debra’s . Abbey was a strong women who was determined to pack up her parents house and get it on the market. She had a hard time because of the past with her brother being charged with the murder of there mother. Then her father passing away. Then she was having feeling for a friend who was now the sheriff and he was know having a storm Holly coming thru at full Force. He was having a murder of the next door neighbor to Abbey and trying to blame on her brother. This was devastating storm that hit his county. I recommend that you read Frozen Ground to see what happens.
Debra Webb did another 10 star book.
