Ice and Embers: A Snow Queen Retelling: 3 stars
I liked this book but it was slow. Not a lot happened until the end. That being said, what a ending.
Chasing Christmas Past: A Steampunk Christmas Novella: 3 stars
Goblins and Snowflakes: An Elves and the Shoemaker Retelling: 4 stars
I loved this book. It was a perfect retelling of The Elves and the Shoemaker, but with dolls. I love that all of Karsak books are from the same world and you just learn more and more with every book. I cannot wait to read more of her work.
This is a great collection of stories full of familiar Christmas characters and some great twists! If you are as in love with Melanie Karsak’s world as I am, this is a great collection!
Loved, loved, loved all of these unique steampunk fairytale retellings! Each story was downright enjoyable! This author has a magical way with words!

Oh wow! Talk about getting lost in some childhood fairy tales with a spin you won’t believe. Grab your copy cause you won’t want to miss out here. You have all the drama, emotional turmoil, fear, mystery and suspense that grabs your attention from the start. All the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for one incredible experience. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Melanie did an amazing job bringing this collection to life brilliantly. Magnificent job Melanie, thanks for sharing this awesome collection with us.
Peppermint and Pentacles: A wonderful story, which will work for fairy tale lovers and Steampunk lovers alike; this author has a wonderful way of creating new and different stories with the same brilliance that the traditional fairy tale had. They are classics for a reason and this author knows how to make her version just as endearing.
Ice and Embers: A great re-telling of the classic The Ice Queen, this story was filled with the supernatural, steampunk, and a hint of romance. I loved the characters and the plot and I could not put it down. The characters are well written and have both a strong will and a hint of naivety to them. That only makes them more human and more enjoyable. I loved the references to the original story without being a direct copy; it was fun to pick out the “Easter eggs.”
Chasing Christmas Past: This was a short holiday read that is an introduction to The Airship Racing Chronicles. It was a fun story that introduced the reader to Rose (a favorite character) and was filled with action. Pure fun, this story is all about action and charismas cheer!
Goblins and Snowflakes: I really don’t think you can get better then this author for amazing, safe, and fun reads. I loved this story based on the Elves and the Shoemaker. It was such a fun retelling. I loved the way the main character, Miss Scarlette Rossetti, was intelligent, caring but also adventurous. Her heart was so big and it made the story that much more enjoyable. I loved the holiday spirit that was involved, but also the Goblins! It introduced the reader the creation (in part) of the Red Cape Society, but only gave enough that I will need more. I also really enjoyed the town description and the hint of romance.
If you want and introduction to this author and her amazing worlds, this is the perfect collection to do that and it will get you in the holiday spirit! I received and ARC and am leaving an honest review.
