For anyone who saw the movie and wants to know what happens next, yes you can jump right in to Frostbite. I can’t say I recommend it though.
The Bad:
The first half of the book has like 3% plot and 97℅ teen drama! Ugh.
Rose drove me nuts! Before she was annoying, but now she’s just mean!
Lissa was too wrapped up in a guy. (Less crazy though, so points for that.)
There’s less of Dimitri and more of Mason. (And I didn’t like Mason as much in this one.)
Rose’s mom is mean too.
Once the plot finally got going, I started yelling at the characters. I hate it when an author makes characters stupid to further the plot!
The Good:
Mead can really describe a scene!
Rose meets an older Muroi royal and I really enjoyed their banter!
Christian’s aunt was great! (Even if she is a potential love interest for Dimitri.)
It ended well enough, and since my power was out, I started the third book.
Frostbite picked up right after book one. Rose and Dimitri were fighting their feelings for each other and tried to move on with other people. Which I didn’t like at all. Rose kinda started dating Mason where they shared a few kisses. I really loved Mason. I didn’t want him to get used as a stand in and that was pretty much what happens. Dimitri got friendly with Tasha who offered Dimitri to be her guardian and the chance of having children with her. Every time Dimitri smiled or laughed with Tasha it felt like a knife to my heart . Both Rose and Dimitri failed at getting over their feelings. The sexual tension between Rose and Dimitri just kept building in this book. At the end they kissed and I believe it was a tipping point for them. Lissa was dealing with her spirit magic and the meds she took to keep her from getting depressed and hurting herself. The meds block her magic and it hurts her to not be able to use it. Lissa and Christian made love for the first time.
We readers met Janine(Rose’s mom) in this book. There was a lot of mama drama, as Janine wasn’t a very good mother, but she does love Rose. We also got introduced to Adrian in this book. He was another spirit magic user and I really liked him. For the most part Rose did some real growing up in this book and tried to stay out of trouble. Mason, Eddie, Mia on the other hand ran off half cocked trying to kill Strigoi. Rose and Christian went after them and Mason ended up getting killed. I loved Mason and was so sad when poor Mason got killed. It really bugged me that he loved Rose and she just liked him as a friend and tried to use him to get over her real love. Not that I don’t understand that Rose was trying to give him a chance because he was a great guy and really liked her but I felt he got the short end of the stick. Rose ended up losing it seeing Mason killed and ended up killing the two Strigoi that held them captive. I loved that Rose’s mom was really there for her after she made her first kill and lost her friend. Overall a good read but I want Rose and Dimitri together already!
Gets better and better everytime. This is an amazing series, couldn’t get enough if it. I’m so glad there are books like this out there.
It’s Richelle Mead no review required shes great!
It was hard to decide how many stars to give this one. I debated 4 or 5. I ended up giving it 5 because the only reason it deserves 4 is Rose and her annoying, childish, bull-headed attitude! She is strong and fierce but also annoying as hell in this book. Adrian, the new character introduced is too cool for school. I love him so much! At first I wasn’t sure if he was good or bad, but I’m glad his alignment turned out the way it did. You finally get to see a new side of Christian and Mia towards the middle/end which is refreshing. Not a huge fan of Mia, but shes not the worst character I’ve ever encountered.
Overall, a good read and these are pretty easy for me to get through. If you have the time to get through these, I would say go for it.
**I try not to spoil the book**
This is the second book to Vampire Academy. I read this book literally in a day. I could not put this book down. It picked up right where the last one ended. I will be definitely picking the next one up very soon. If you loved the first one, or curious what happens next, I seriously recommend reading Frostbite.
