Kudos to Lyndee Walker for this excellent first-in-the-series book (an Agatha nominee). Crime reporter Nichelle Clark, a Lois Lane wannabe, is independent, savvy, and feisty. The plot is twisty and intriguing, and the newspaper setting is wonderfully realistic. Well done!
Therese Plummer did a very good job as the narrator for this story written by LynDee Walker about a young reporter Nichelle Clarke investigating the scene of an accident. This is another woman who was to get to the true and puts herself in harm’s way to solve what really happened. I listened to the last hour of the audiobook before I got up this …
Very good read, well written, good characters and a good story to keep you guessing until almost the end.
it is so nice to have a good book to read during the covid stay at home time. the second best thing is to find a book you just can’t put down. well this story is like that! i so enjoyed this story moved at a good pace, lots of story with no filler (descriptions – set the stage ,etc). i enjoyed it and i hope you will.
At a time when we get our “news” in sound bytes, this book takes us into the world of a print/newspaper journalist covering crime but longing for a bid from the Washington Post to do political coverage. Police corruption becomes a political touchstone with rookie Nichelle Clarke determined to get her story–no matter what. No matter what almost …
4.5 stars rounded up for story. Narration 5 stars
The narration made this book for me. The writing was good but I am glad that I listened because it was like watching a good movie-on the edge of my seat.
So much happens there’s barely room to breathe at times. Action, mystery, suspense, murder and even kidnapping kept me completely engaged. I …
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, but honestly it was pretty good. I enjoyed the main character, Nichelle, she was a badass who didn’t need no man! I’m not sure if this book was part of a series but I hope it is, there are a few characters I wouldn’t mind seeing again.
I love Nichelle Clark, the protagonist in the Nichelle Clark series. This is the first book in the series, but you don’t have to read them in order. Nichelle is edgy, strong, determined, and loves her designer shoes. Definitely recommend this series!
Walker delivers a binge worthy start to the Nichelle Clarke series. Great characters and a puzzle that will have you up late trying to finish.
I highly recommend this book to fans of the suspense genre.
One of my current favorite authors.
Excellent writer; well-developed characters, thoroughly researched – can’t wait to read more from this author.
It was a good read, but predictable in some areas. I’m reminded of the heroine that you scream out “don’t go in there” or “don’t do that” and you know it’s gonna happen….but then there’s always someone/something that saves the day. Predictable. Probably will read more of these, but have so many books already on my TBR stack, these will be way …
Could not make it through this book
Fun, easy read that kept me entertained despite it not being a particularly realistic or thought provoking novel. Perfect to spend the day relaxing and reading, occasionally laughing, and figuring out the end.
Knocked my socks off!
Different view of crime from a journalist rather than The usual police/detective story.
Intriguing book, page turner.
Good story. Takes you in different directions. Recommended
Really good book with good characters.
This is a great series. Crime and intrigue from the journalist’s viewpoint; the pace is moved along by daily news deadlines, and an established competition with local TV news. Character development is good, and secondary characters follow along through the series. At one point, in one of the books, I was starting to feel like the storyline was …
