This the most unorthodox book I’ve ever read and I loved it! In telling her story, Rose jumps all over the place, talks about interruptions and is easily side-tracked. I enjoyed the telling and am glad I read this book.
I have been a fan of Tracy Gilmore for quite some time now, so when From The Desk Of Rockin Red Rose fell into my kindle I couldn’t wait to start it. I knew that I was going to get an exceptional read because you always do with this author, but this….This guys is nothing what I had expected. This novel blew my mind for so many different reasons.
We meet Rose. A woman who suffered as a child in the most unimaginable ways.
A young girl who grew up with no friends, parents who didn’t care, bullied at school, and very much alone.
Rose was fortunate enough to have the love of her grandparents and Uncle, but the shelter and protection they offered was never enough to keep the monsters away. It was never enough to protect Rose from the evil that preyed on her. It just simply wasn’t enough.
You can only imagine the life long scars a traumatic childhood causes even in your adult years.
This Rose’s story about a life of grief, heartache, pain and hurt that somehow she managed to overcome.
This is Rose’s story about finding love even when she thought that love was simply unobtainable and she was undeserving.
This is Rose’s story, told through her eyes, so even long after she is gone her legacy can live on.

These are the only words I can find to describe this novel.
I was completely moved.
But what makes this novel so very unique, and I am not using the term ‘unique’ loosely either, is the fact that Tracy had the ability to take us from past to present, present to past within each individual chapter, but yet not once was it confusing. It flowed beautifully and I am in absolute awe of her writing ability. So full of depth and detail. It was mind blowing.
I must say that this novel is my favorite by Tracy Gilmore by far. I highly recommend this.
Congratulations Tracy on delivering such a unique and beautifully written read.
5 stars.
This realistic autobiographical fiction gutted me.
After reading the blurb, I wasn’t sure if this story was for me; experiencing mixed feelings because this is not the normal type of book I am use to one-clicking by this author.
Nonetheless, I took the leap. Listening to the majority of the storyline at work, it was jaw-dropping, had me waving away co-workers who attempted to interrupt my listening/reading flow.
I enjoyed this story so much. It reminded me of a Toni Morrison novel. This gem is movie-ready!
Keep writing, Author Gilmore!
P.S. Love the cover art!
This is a book that will leave you with an emotional hangover!! No subject is off limits as Rose recounts her life story, including abuse, heartbreak, joy, betrayal, humour, denial and love. The way her story is told is truly unique, and honestly had me in tears one minute and laughter the next! I especially love the way Rose’s present day to day life is beautifully woven throughout her story, giving us a glimpse at Rose as she tells us of her past.
