1 bestselling author Patricia Cornwell returns to the chilling world of gutsy medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in this suspense classic. An unidentified nude female sits propped against a fountain in Central Park. There are no signs of struggle. When Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her colleagues Benton Wesley and Pete Marino arrive on the scene, they instantly recognize the signature of serial killer … killer Temple Brooks Gault. Scarpetta, on assignment with the FBI, visits the New York City morgue on Christmas morning, where she must use her forensic expertise to give a name to the nameless–a difficult task. But as she sorts through conflicting forensic clues, Gault claims his next victim. He has infiltrated the FBI’s top secret artificial-intelligence system developed by Scarpetta’s niece, and sends taunting messages as his butchery continues, moving terrifyingly closer to Scarpetta herself.

Love this series.
Great book! I love the characters in the series. Always a unique twist you will never see coming. Highly recommend.
I am a huge fan of the author! These characters seem like family to me by now as I am currently reading book 23!
I love the earlier Scarpetta novels. They were edgy, tense, and damn near impossible to put down. I found myself a tired zombie at work the day after one of these novels!
I love Patricia Cornwall. One of my favorite crime authors. Tells the story well. Story is so realistic it makes me want to get up and make sure my doors are locked.
I really like Scarpetta she is no nonsense
I prefer the author’s earlier books and this is one I thoroughly enjoyed. She gave me all I’d hoped to find when I chose to read it.
This book made me do research to donate my body to science.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I loved EVERYTHING about this! I especially loved how we got to see Lucy and Kay work in tandem. These two are both so damn skilled, it’s amazing to see how they work. Kay really knows how to use everything she knows to the best of her ability and it truly shows in this book.
I was happy to finally see something truly get to Kay. I noticed though, that she kept certain details to herself. At this point it doesn’t matter, but the point about Gault wanting to give her his kills as a trophy was so curious to me. I’m not sure why she never mentioned it to someone else, because that might have helped them find out who he might target next.
It will be interesting to see where this group goes from here, and I’m really curious to see if Kay and Benton stay in their relationship
I like all of the Scarperra books. Thy are all different
Love this series!
Love her and her niece. She teaches us all so much … she was even in my hometown of Jacksonville a couple of times. When I was young I really wanted to go into her field but didn’t get my foot in the door and now it is too late. I love her and love to see her cameos. My mom has most of books and is waiting for all the new ones ; most of the ones she has I gave to her.
A riveting book. Have read this a long time ago and it is one that has stuck with me. Now that my granddaughter is going into forensic science there are some instances from the book I can converse with her.I love Patricia Cornwalls books and know that a lot of research goes into them.
3.5 of 5 stars to From Potter’s Field, the sixth in the Kay Scarpetta thriller series, published in 1994 by Patricia Cornwell. After five books, you begin expecting more and more from a series, wanting it to up its game, thrown more mystery and character depth… and you get that in this book; however, you also get a bit of a different perspective this time. A few things about this one:
1. It picks up from a previous book with the same killer who still hadn’t been caught. It’d be helpful to read the previous one so you are fully up to speed.
2. Potter’s Field is a real place. It’s where all the bodies of unknown identity have been buried in NYC.
3. Involves a murder in Central Park. Hits a little too close to home, given what happened in CP years ago.
4. The ending is just… bang… killing spree over and let’s fly back home.
5. The killer is directly after Scarpetta… finding victims beforehand to get Scarpetta to find him.
6. You learn a lot about the underground. And a killer’s lair.
7. Scarpetta never learns. She won’t partner with someone the way she should.
8. This was probably the take off point in the series where the author became quite famous. She had recognition before this book, but the series was widely known when this one was released.
That said… it’s a solid read but a bit more focused than previous books. When you have some history from earlier reads, you feel more connected. But in the end, it was more or less just a good thriller book for me. Still enjoy the series… and this was the most relate-able to me given the location.
Good forensic book!
This book was a slow started but good once you got into it.
Cornwell is one of my favorite authors! She keeps you guessing!
