This book. I did not expect that it´s going to be my new favorite contemporary romance written by McGuire, I really didn´t. I also did not expect the story she gave us. But then again that´s the amazing thing when you read a McGuire novel, you never know what she throws at you.
From Here To You is the perfect mix of angst, suspense, emotinal and swoon worthy moments. I love Trex. AGH, I FREAKING LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Trex! He had me at the end of chapter 12 with all the sweet things he said to Darby. Stepping in ( without even thinking two seconds about it ) as a Dad for a kid which isn´t even his own is freaking amazing!
Speaking of Darby. She´s such brave woman! With all the stuff she went trough until the moment she left the situation she was in, phew. I simply adore her.
We get to see our favorite twins Taylor and Tyler Maddox again, so the Maddox Brothers lovers will get their tiny Maddox fix again. 😉
I´m really looking forward for the next book in the series and I hope it´s going to be about Zeke and Naomi.
I hope someday I find someone who is as devoted to me as Trex is to Darby. The fact that he believed there was on person just for him, his perfect match, somewhere out in the world is max swoon worthy. Add his alphaness on top of that and you have yourself a new book boyfriend. Though… there were times when I wanted to shake some sense into him for “withholding” information from Darby.
With the book settled around a forrest fire, and with our country battling one right now, my admiration and appreciation for firefighters has greatly increased.
This is a lovely, sweet Christmastime novella I really love the characters and the setting is very real, a favorite place that the author likes to go to, and where the series of books, the Italian Village Mysteries are written about. The mystery is the brainchild of Gio’s thoughts put into action. She’s very good at solving problems. The mystery she solves is hoing to be given as a gift on Christmas, but only if the solution is a positive one. The ending brought tears to my eyes. To mention more about what thr mystery is would be spoiling the story for the next reader. It’s a feel good, sweet family story at a very stressful time of the year and I really enjoyed reading this story.
I first discovered Jamie McGuire when I read Beautiful Disaster, she’s a master a weaving a tale that will wrap you up and take you along with her characters and make you fall in love with them along the way. I loved Trex and Darby’s story!
Wow, where to even begin.
We’ve meet Scottie “Trex” Trexler before, but now we know his secrets. He isn’t the jerk we thought he was, but really a good guy deep down.
We know Darby as the front desk clerk at the hotel in Colorado Springs where the hotshots stay during fire season, but what brought her there?
Together these two are a mystery, and a fire all at the same time. Can they out run their pasts?
Belief, Faith, and Finding The One!!!
Fabulous read! I felt like I was on a roller coaster with my emotions while reading, but it was a ride I would do over and over again. My heart broke for both of these characters and their pasts, but their journey towards love was AMAZING!! I want to thank the author for including faith and God in this story; I personally loved every bit of it.
Enjoyable action packed
a favorite author – I purchase every time
On the fence…3.5 stars
I love the Maddox Brothers series and was happy to see a bit of Taylor and Tylor along with Falyn and Ellison in this story. Firstly, I did enjoy the male and female lead, Trex and Darby, but did not enjoy the Christian-feel to this story. I don’t mind a few references, but sometimes it got too preachy. With that said, Jamie McGuire writes beautifully and wove a story with several subplots that had me glued to the book. I admit there was a maze of characters to keep in mind. I just wish there was more romantic development between Trex and Darby. It seemed all the action happening around them took the limelight away from their story. But I did enjoy that heart-pounding action towards the end of the story.
Jamie McGuire never disappoints! Love, love, loved!! A beautiful, raw, and real story that will tug at your emotions.
I can’t say anything bad about this book, Jamie McGuire is an amazing author she really knows how to capture love and romance and action all in one! You really fall in love with the characters and makes you feel like you are apart of the book!
Maddox family reunion? Sort of.
From Here to You has some familiar faces and more stories to chase down. Jamie McGuire definitely wanted us to be teased, tranquilizer, and begging for more. I’m desperate for scraps even. From Here to You is a second chance, runaway bride, and all around sweet story.
It has some terrible circumstances but it is a truly wonderful story. A “perfect” love story. I’m just going to omit the details…that way you feel right at home.
Whether or not you are up to date on all things Maddox, you will definitely feel a need to be or find out more. So enjoy the visits from friends, love the sneak peeks, and hold your breath for more. Or breath but cross your fingers for more?! Yeah, that’s seems more reasonable.
Love everything Jamie McGuire writes. Appreciate how she writes dialogue and develops characters. No wasted words.
This book not only includes romance and suspense that we love from Jamie McGuire but also action and adventure. This plot line was so original and different from other books Jamie has written but left me wanting more just like her other books.
I honestly felt as if nothing happened throughout this whole book besides them falling in love WAY too fast.
It’s been too long since I read a Jamie McGuire book and I was thrilled to find out her latest, from Here to You, is set in my very own hometown. It made the reading experience all the more enjoyable as I can so easily “see” the places being referred to. After reading the opening chapter my interest was further piqued by the plight of runaway bride, Darby Dixon. Darby has piqued the interest of one Scott “Trex” Trexler as he immediately recognizes Darby as his, a women he’s never met but always knew she was out there.
From Here to You is a romantic suspense story and Maguire does a great job combining these elements. On the run, Darby is merely trying to survive. Darby I found to be endearing, genuine, and principled. Her priorities have shifted and staying safe is all the more important. She can’t afford to make any mistakes in her new “off the grid” effort, and she’s definitely not interested in a relationship. Trex on the other hand is all in from the go and how she manages to keep herself away from him is baffling. He is so completely and utterly charming, motivated by his alpha territorial instincts, but he’s so great to with her. Trexs’ life adds a high degree of action and suspense to the story. As the reader we are privy to more than Darby and I could see that how he omits certain facts could very well result in destroying their connection. As the suspense heightened my anxiety tremendously and I couldn’t get through the last quarter of the book fast enough.
From Here to You encapsulates al that is great in the romantic suspense genre. Although I have no idea if any of the characters we met in FHtY are a part of the future of the series, I am already putting the next book in my mental filing cabinet as “most anticipated” reads for 2018/2019.
I loved this book, the characters are amazing as is this beautiful story.
Darby has had a hard hand dealt to her and has never truly been loved. She is facing these facts and realizing she wants to give her baby better than the life she is living so with the help of a friend she runs.
She meets some amazing characters at the hotel she gets a job at during a bad wild fire.
Trex is a true romantic, waiting for “THE Woman” he realizes that Darby is her.
They each have their secrets weather they want to have them or not. Trust is a big thing and is sometimes hard to give when your past isn’t as far behind as you want or think it is.
**2½ Stars**
I was apprehensive to read this one. I was disappointed in her last book, but I promised to not let that one book set the tone for my feelings on reading anymore by McGuire. When I first started this book, I was texting my friends how much I was enjoying it. And I was for the first quarter of the book…
After about a quarter of the way in, this book fell off. There wasn’t any real character development. Nothing happened really. I mean, nothing. It was so slow moving. However, I vowed to keep moving.
The characters didn’t feel like adults. They were all over the place. They felt like they were more in their late teens. Their reactions to small things were over exaggerated and immature to their age. They lacked personality and chemistry. I just wasn’t feeling them at all.
The plot of the book is one I thought would be a winner for me. However, the follow through with it was very flat and monotonous. The day to day lives of the characters wasn’t something I wanted. The good stuff didn’t happen until the very end, but then it felt like it didn’t fit. It happened so fast after nothing happening, it felt forced.
I really wanted this to be a glowing review. I really did. I just think that McGuire’s storytelling isn’t in my current reading likes. I need a lot more from a book then what she is giving me.
I really enjoyed this book. The first chapter had me hooked. Darby is more than just a runaway bride. She is a strong woman who doesn’t realize her own self-worth. But now there is more than just herself to worry about. Darby finds out that being pregnant drives a person to great lengths to make a better life. As Darby begins to build a new life for herself and her unborn child, she meets a great cast of characters that become her new family. The author did a great job creating well developed characters we instantly fall in love with. Initially thinking she was a weak person for putting up with an abusive partner for so long, Darby soon realizes that she really isn’t so weak after all. She relishes the freedom of saying ‘no” and finds strength and power in that one word.
Trexler is an ex-marine, who is instantly besotted with Darby. Unfortunately, every time he asks her out, she says, “No.” But, Trexler isn’t one to give up. He soon starts to win Darby over and a true friendship builds. Something genuine and beautiful. Trexler is the perfect combination of strength and gentleness.
“He was attracted to me, but he wasn’t trying to conquer me.”
Unfortunately, secrets are still buried and as they do secrets always come to light and always hurt. At the very moment when things start to unravel, Darby’s ex-fiancé shows up and her worst nightmare ensues.
This book is well written and an enjoyable read. It was suspenseful and captivating. The characters are well developed, interesting, and lovable. I loved the crossover with the Maddox brothers. It was beautiful to witness Darby realize she wasn’t some wounded dove and come into her own. Trexler, has become another addition to my book boyfriend list! I highly recommend this book.
I read an ARC of this story via netgalley. My honest and fair review was voluntary.
***4 Stars***
Okay. This one kind of exhausted me. Not in a bad way…at least not totally, but lots goes on and some of the crazy, got really crazy. But within all of the craycray is a story filled with a lot of heart and a group of people that I ended up really liking and want to get to know a lot better.
I liked Darby and Trex, I really did, but boy did these two put me through the wringer even when I couldn’t fault them for their feelings and reactions. Darby is a sweet, good woman who has had a rougher go of it than most in her short life. Her demons ride her hard and she has a difficult time seeing beyond them and the strength she truly has. Trex is a good man. Though his past has been a rough one, he’s come out of it with a strong sense of self and the ability to see people for who they are. He is a protector at heart and will do what is necessary to give those around him what they need.
To say that Darby and Trex’s journey was a rocky one is an understatement because with all the secrets and white lies they have someone less strong would have drowned in them. The angst definitely comes out in force in one way or another and there were moments where I needed to take a break from them because even when I understood where the angst was coming from, it exhausted me, but even then I wanted to see them work through all the muck and be together because they worked for me and in the end I was happy with where they ended up.
Since this is a first in series, a spinoff ~ but still a first ~ there is a lot going on, and at times it was a bit overwhelming, but I still really enjoyed it. The secondary characters were all well written and I loved getting to know them and am looking forward to getting to know them better as the series progresses. If you’ve read the Maddox series, you’ll love catching up with a few of the family in this one, and if you haven’t (like myself) you won’t feel lost, but will more than likely want to check out their books after reading this baby. The crazy in this is kind of high and the triggers are real, but it all worked out for me and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing who the next book will be about!
