From Here to You is a great read. Darby had me hooked on the story from the beginning. In the beginning we see Darby leaving her abusive fiancé on their wedding after she gets a positive on a pregnancy test. Darby is a very likeable character. She strong and determined and not whinny not all. She ends up at the Colorado Springs Hotel, where luck is on her side and she gets a job and a place to stay. There she meets Trex. Trex is a different kind of guy. He’s not a player and he believes the one for him and out there. He’s a former Marine and FBI agent He’s currently working in a top-secret military complex. He knows Darby is the one he has been waiting for. She’s sworn off men who are in the military, cops, and firefighters. Trex takes it slow with Darby. As he’s slowly winning her over, he also keeping secrets from her. I was hooked and couldn’t turn the pages faster enough, I waiting for her to find out what he did for work and for her ex to pop back up. I really liked this one it kept me hooked from the start to finish.
From Here to You is an exciting and intriguing new read from author Jamie McGuire. From Here to You follows the story of Darby and Trex. When we first meet Darby, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by her story. We meet her just minutes before her wedding is about to start and she gets some life altering news. This news gives her the strength to get out of a terrible situation and try to create a new life for her and her unborn child. With only the clothes on her back and the cash she has on hand, Darby goes as far as her money will take her. Her new life may not be what she dreamed of, but if anyone deserves a second chance, it’s Darby….
From Here to You pulled me in instantly. I was so intrigued and couldn’t wait to read more. I found Darby really easy to relate to and loved how smart she was. She risked a lot by leaving her fiancee and trying to start over. She is the kind of woman you just want to hug and protect. She may not have been ready for Trex to come into her life, but I gotta tell you, he was just what the doctor ordered. Not only was he good looking, but he was patient, kind and determined. He believed in true love and soul-mates. He didn’t care about Darby’s past and the moment he realized that she was everything he was looking for, he would stop at nothing to protect and win her heart.
Darby and Trex’s road to happily ever after wasn’t an easy one. There were definitely some bumps along the way. From secrets to lies and omissions of truth. From a past that just won’t stay buried. This story had turns that left me breathless and on the edge of my seat. Even with all that, this author delivered a heartfelt slow-burning second chance romance that just kept me begging for more.
Overall, I found this story to be a truly enjoyable read. I loved the chemistry between the characters and the friendships built along the way. I loved seeing and spending time with familiar faces. I loved the drama and suspense. I loved the romance and swoon-worthy moments along the way. From Here to You was a terrific read from beginning to end.
Jamie Mcguire has a way of writing extremely strong and dramatic love stories full of an emotional load that leaves us groundless beyond all this she loves to leave people tense with their mysteries that are only solved in the last minutes of the last time.
There is a heart!
Darby has a very distressed life history, and she has become an apathetic girl until she discovers something that demands an immediate attitude from her. Helped by a friend she decides to change her life and look for another direction.
Upon arriving in the city of Colorado Springs she meets the mysterious Trex. A man who transpires danger.
The involvement between the two happens even with the fears of Darby and little by little Trex is revealing itself and conquering the girl.
I loved the special participation of one of the Maddox brothers and loved it so much that everything was done until the end.
From Here to You by Jamie McGuire is book One in the Crash and Burn series. This is the story of Darby Dixon and Scott “Trex” Trexler. This is the first book in the Crash and Burn series.
Trex has retired from the Marine now is doing a top-secret military installation that has taken him to
Colorado Springs. Trex is a tough guy with secrets but one thing he knows is that when he sees Darby she is the one women he has been waiting for.
Darby just literally ran from an abusive fiancé when she found out she was pregnant. Darby ended up working at a Colorado Springs Hotel. When she meets Trex she find herself drawn to him but she just left one bad relationship and Trex seems to be fill with secrets….so she isn’t’ willing to risk her future yet on him. But between her past and things in the present…they may just only have each other.
So enjoyed their story…what a great start to a great series!
From here to You is the newest Jamie McGuire romance and fans of her Maddox brothers will love this! Let me start with the things that bothered me. Why you ask? Because I still loved this book regardless!
1. Darby is one of those girls that is so beautiful, everyone wants her. I’m kind of tired of this too gorgeous heroine. I am over the author constantly pointing out how pretty and desired the heroine is. Its shallow and vapid.
2. Why are characters so against letting someone help them? I understand the fear that getting help will allow someone else to control you, but I think stories like this send a bad message to women in abusive situations. Trying to get away without support is dangerous. There are so many amazing agencies that do amazing work. When authors write a heroine who eschews any and all support, they are putting women in danger.
Ok, so now that I have mentioned my irritation, let me share why I liked the book despite that! I love the girl on the run trope. Darby is running from an abusive fiancee who doesn’t know she is pregnant yet. She runs to Colorado Springs and accepts a job as a night desk clerk at a hotel. Filled with “hotshots” who are fighting the wildfires, she meets Trex. Trex has a top secret job that he can’t share with anyone. So, he lets everything think he is one of the government agency guys here for the fire effort. Trex knows that Darby is “the one” for him right away. But what can he do? Once she finds out he is ex-military, she will bolt.
If you enjoyed the angsty Maddox series, you will love From Here to You. Filled with that same angst, the love story between Darby and Trex is push/pull. She isn’t going to trust easy, and Trex has lots of secrets. Throw in jealous former lovers and an abusive ex-fiancee and you have plenty of drama to keep you going! Also, there is a very interesting dichotomy between Trex’s religious beliefs (atheist) and Darby’s (Christian). I though McGuire did a marvelous job of showing why each character believed what they did and how to appropriately handle differences in religion in a relationship. It was very well done and she blended it seamlessly into the story. Finally, I love that Trex was the one who was looking for “the one”. I thought it was incredible that he had been talking about her to friends and family since high school. It made Trex, despite his flaws, a very swoonworthy hero. I’m also still really curious about what in the hell is going on at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and hope it will be further explored in future books!
4.25 Stars
Darby just ‘Runaway-Brided’ it from her own wedding. But she has a good reason – her fiancé is an abusive a**hole! And … she’s kinda pregnant – which she just found out in the bathroom at church.
She’s not raising a kid with that guy.
Her best friend gives her some money and drops her at the bus station.
Off to Colorado she goes.
After selling her wedding dress and buying some normal clothes, she immediately finds a job at a very busy hotel. Busy because all those sexy hotshot firemen stay there. Some huge wildfires are close by.
Scott Trexel – Trex – is also staying in that hotel. He’s in town for his new job. He’s 35 and has been in the military foreve and then in the FBI for a bit and now he’s working with a secret private security team. His first day is tomorrow.
As soon as he meets Darby he’s sure he’s finally found the future Mrs. Trex.
But of course the girl is way too skittish and scared and hurt for a new relationship. And also … she’s pregnant by another guy, who might or might not have given up looking for her!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DARBY & TREX???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
Well…. Cute Romance … BUT 😉
I already wanted to stop reading after 1 or 2 chapters. I just hate religion and everything connected to it. And there was so much praying and god and church and bible in those first pages already. Ugh.
But I also wanted to keep on reading. I was waiting for that story for so long. And I wanted to meet lots of Maddoxes again!!! And I did meet them. Taylor & Tyler are staying in that hotel too! Their stories/books are taking place at the same time!
But this story. Yes… it was cute and sweet and a bit funny and exciting toward the end. But it’s not really anything new. We know she’s pregnant and we know that her ex is not done with her. So nothing what happens really comes as a surprise.
Trex is great, but he’s also a bit sappy with his insta-love-destiny kind of thing.
Thank god he’s on my side with all that religion stuff!
The book was too long – it was filled with too much unnecessary stuff. Too much back and forth between Darby and Trex – she doesn’t trust him – he doesn’t tell her the whole truth! Which – surprise surprise – turns into fighting! Ugh.
It could’ve been an amazing romantic suspense, but Jamie almost didn’t do anything with that secret military compound where Trex works. There could’ve been some amazing excitement – but nope… for such a long book, they weren’t at that compound often enough – or with exciting enough moments. Only one basically. Maybe future books will tell us about that more!
We’re mostly at the hotel – which was cute. Interesting.
It was an okay story. Just not amazing!
But I liked Trex and Darby, and all the others. Great supporting cast – I will definitely read all upcoming books about the others!
I enjoyed reading this book. It was just not as good as it could’ve been.
100 pages less and more action, more excitement, more adorably funny moments, a few more moving moments.
Also – what’s with the cover? Roses and smoke? I suppose there is smoke from the fires but I still don’t get it. Not in love with that cover – it looks bloody and doesn’t fit the romance part at all.
BUT – don’t get me wrong – even if it sounds like I did – I didn’t hate the book. It was an ok read – lots of readers will really love it. Trex is really swoonable!
FROM HERE TO YOU was a really adorable & exciting romance! Run to your nearest amazon asap for your own Trex – he’ll be sold out in NO TIME!
Darby Dixon never thought her life would turn out quite like this, she currently finds herself sitting in a church bathroom hiding out from a despicable man that she supposed to marry, full well knowing that he doesn’t love her the way he should, and she is emotionally and physically exhausted from the constant battles that they have. She knows there is no way she can survive a lifetime with him, especially now that she knows they are expecting a child, she just can’t bring herself to subject her child to the kind of life she currently lives, her only option is to run. There is a good chance he will find her at some point, but staying just isn’t an option, so she grabs her purse, and heads for a side door of the church that leads to her friends waiting vehicle and her ticket out of the crap storm she has found herself in. There has to be something better for her and her baby out there, and she is determined to find it, even if she has to give up everything she knows to do it, and who knows maybe someday she find the kind of love she has always dreamed about finding… maybe even sooner than she expected!
Being a former Marine, means Scott “Trex” Trexler has seen the face of danger more times than he can count, and fortunately he has lived to tell about it, but doing so would mean he would have to face his demons and that just isn’t something he is comfortable with. He wasn’t ready to leave the service, but an injury he suffered while on duty made that decision for him, so now he does the next best thing; providing security for government facilities. His current top-secret mission has taken him to Colorado Springs, to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, and to a town he has become to enjoy visiting. And one step closer to meeting the one woman he was meant to find… he has been dreaming of her for years now, and now that he has found her he has no plans of letting her go. Even if it means he has to fight for her…
From Here To You is the first installment in the Crash and Burn series, and our introduction to Trex and Darby, two wounded souls in desperate need of saving. These two were quite the pairing, both scarred from their pasts, both struggling to overcome them, and both quite determined to not let them defy them. When they met one another, they meet the other half of themselves that they have been missing and never knew existed, and boy was it fun to watch them travel down this road of self discovery, and healing. It has been a while since I have read a book by this author, but within minutes of starting this story I was quickly reminded why I love her books so much, the feels they bring are incomparable, and can be deeply felt and are long lasting. I am really excited about this new series from her and I look forward to making return visits and having the opportunity to meet more of her endearing characters! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it’s loaded with feels that are certain to put a major squeeze on your heart and linger with you long after the last page is swiped!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
When Darby finds out on her wedding day she is pregnant with her fiancé Shawn’s baby she runs with only her small clutch in her hand and only her wedding dress on. When she takes the bus as far as she can she finds a job in a small hotel in Colorado where the wildfires are burning and the fire crews come and go quickly and it’s where she meets Trex. She is trying to keep under the radar so she can’t be found she she doesn’t date or socialize but Trex is convinced she is the one he has been looking his whole life for but Darby believes in honesty and Trex can’t be completely honest with her. As they become closer they start to share a lot with each other about themselves but it gets harder and harder to tell Darby he was a marine because she refused to date one after her abuse from Shawn. Darby starts to feel a little more relaxed as her pregnancy progresses but people are out to destroy Trex and her happiness and you aren’t sure if they can overcome all the obstacles in their way. I loved how strong Darby was especially coming from such an abusive relationship and Trex for being as dedicated to his job, family and Darby.
