Solid writing; well done plot. I personally prefer more suspense with my romance, but if you like a friends to lovers trope, you will enjoy this book.
“From Best Friend to Daddy” by Jules Bennett is the second book in the Return to Stonerock series. I read this story as a stand-alone (without reading book 1), with no feeling of not understanding other characters or the beginning of the two main characters’ relationship.
Gray and Kate have been best friends forever! Even after Gray goes away on tour, their friendship carries on upon his return. Gray is the most recent owner of the bar in the town. His Father owned it before him, and it was started by his grandfather before him. Family is a big aspect of Gray’s life, but he has the niggling feeling something is missing in his life. That thing is Kate as more than a friend.
Kate is an OCD planner! Even her plans have plans! She has lists for everything, and it’s how she thinks through every aspect of her life. Gray wanting to move out of the friendship zone doesn’t fit into any plan! But their attraction is strong and they don’t want to lose each other as friends by acting on their attraction.
Kate has a list of things she’d like to accomplish in her life, and eventually she shares that list with Gray. Gray is determined to help Kate check off her list items. A night of camping and a few weeks later, Kate is pregnant. Gray wants to marry her, but he is very bad at how he proposes, as Kate wants real love and Gray can’t express his true inner love for her as he’s not totally conscious of it himself. Eventually, he figures it out and Gray and Kate will get their HEA.
This is a sweet romance with all the feels, laughs, and warm hugs.
I was provided with an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest review. I have received no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
“From Best Friend to Daddy” by Jules Bennett is book 2 of her Return to Stonerock series. You may remember Gray Gallagher and Kate McCoy from “The Cowboy’s Second Chance Family” when Gray came to Kate’s defense on the dance floor at Gallagher’s bar. But if not, no worries since this story can be read without reading the first one (though you’ll want to!).
Gray took over the family bar from his father just as his father took it over from his. Family is important to Gray. And Kate, being his best friend since they were kids, is just as important. He looks out for her and doesn’t like to see her hurting.
Kate is the ultimate planner and lives her life by color-coded folders and pens. Turning thirty, Kate makes a list of things she wants to do since she had lost her parents when she was young. She shares that list with her best friend Gray, who in turn makes it his mission to help her mark things off her list.
One night, after their friends’ wedding, Gray gives in to something on his “list”. Showing Kate how attracted he is to her and he learns Kate feels the same.
Neither Gray nor Kate want to lose their friendship as they explore their attraction. They fumble their way through, but Gray never gives up and when Kate tells him she’s pregnant, he wants to make sure he becomes her family along with their baby.
“From Best Friend to Daddy” is a sweet story about two people who are trying to find their way without losing sight of the other. Ms. Bennett does an outstanding job writing one of my favorite tropes and gives us characters to cheer for.
