“A fast reading suspense book that surprised me so much, I had to finish it in one sitting.” – Alice de Sturler of the American Investigative Society Of Cold Cases.“An epic thriller with a memorable, unorthodox main character… a riveting read…” – Colorado Country Life Magazine. There are times when the truth invites evil, and there are times when the truth can get you killed. Few residents in … the truth can get you killed. Few residents in the secluded mountain-town of Winston, Colorado, have kind words to say about local troublemaker Sean Coleman. He’s a bully, a drunk, and a crime-show addicted armchair detective with an overactive imagination. After a night of poor judgment, Sean finds himself the sole witness to the unusual suicide of a mysterious stranger. With the body whisked away in the chilling rapids of a raging river, no one believes Sean’s account. When his claim is met with doubt and mockery from the people of Winston, Sean embarks on a far-reaching crusade that takes him across the country in search of the dead man’s identity and personal vindication. He hopes to find redemption and the truth—but sometimes the truth is better left unknown.

From a Deep Sleep by John Daly, BQB Publishing, 2013
From a Deep Sleep is a rattling good mystery/thriller. Sean Coleman is a bad-tempered, hard-drinking rent-a-cop who has managed to irritate most of the citizens and the entire law enforcement establishment of Winston, a small town in the Colorado Rockies. Sean is not a sympathetic …
Slow start. Interesting main characters
Kept my interest trying to get ahead of the storyline. Enjoyed. Good read.
I really didn’t care for the main character at first. But it got much better. Don’t give up on the book, it really is a good read.
I am 95% done with the book, but if I don’t review it now, I will probably forget. ANYWAY…… I don’t recall ever liking a book before that didn’t have at least one likeable main character in it, until this one. I don’t think there is much of a chance that the main character, Sean, suddenly gets likeable in the last few pages. Anyway, I liked …
A bit boring and hard to follow.
The protagonist is a difficult character and sometimes I shouldn’t couldn’t stand to read what he would do or say next. But that’s what makes a unique and good book – the characters were believable. It’s interesting to watch what happens when a guy –who no one likes or respects– is correct and goes out to prove the truth when no one believes him.
Main character has no clues to solve suicide other than what he saw happen. Every potential lead causes deeper intrigue and danger for those the main character confides in. Surprise ending great touch to very enjoyable book.
This starts out with a weird death, and a seemingly unlikeable main character, but boy, is this an original tale that is full of surprises. It took me longer than usual to get “into” it, but it is an unexpectedly great read! Kept me on the edge of my seat, and now I’m anxious to find the next John Daly book.
Kept me interested and liked the twists and turns.
Great readv
Immediately ordered next two books.
F word used way TOO much. I didn’t finish book because of that. That word contibutes nothing .
Really enjoyed this book. Wasn’t sure at the start but as I kept reading it turned into a page turner. Enjoyed it.
Good read. I’d recommend
The main character is predictable. I found myself skipping ahead a lot to get past paragraphs that I already knew what was going to be said.
A story should be like a smooth road that you drive on. This story was like an unpaved, rutted road full of potholes. I could not get past the first chapter due to the incredible number of typos, misused words and incomplete sentences. For instance, he used the word “stewed” instead of “ensued”. This is a horrible read. If you had a rating of …
I’m glad I stuck with the book because it did turn out to be pretty good. It had a little to much description of places and things that I thought wasn’t really necessary. There were times the book was hard to put down. Worth the read
It was a little slow to start but it picked up and became quite interesting and engrossing.
Unsympathetic lead character that eventually finds redemption. Good plot movement and development without too many holes or implausible situations.
