I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Trixie Silvertale has a great sense of humor that shines through in this first Mitzy Moon book. Mitzy’s antics and independence make Fries & Alibis a delight to read.
Poor Mitzy Moon has had a rough life. She’s an orphan after her mom died and after getting out of foster care, she goes from one job to another and one party to another…until the day she receives an inheritance from the grandmother she never knew she had!
Soon after Mitzy arrives in Pin Cherry Harbor, she realizes that she’s “home.” Not only does she own her own bookshop but she’s getting to know her Grams. So what if she’s a ghost? There are a few glitches: her grandfather was just murdered and her father was convicted of murder years ago. But Mitzy takes it upon herself to investigate these murders.
It seems odd to include humor and murder in the same sentence, but those two words definitely fit in this instance. Mitzy is unique, funny, and determined. The people she meets in Pin Cherry Harbor are also quite interesting. Especially the sheriff (in Mitzy’s opinion, anyway).
I enjoyed Fries & Alibis and definitely recommend it, especially if you like lighthearted murder mysteries. I can’t wait for the next Mitzy Moon mystery!
Fun. Delightful. Charming. Lots of great one-liners. This is the first book in a new series and I am hooked already.
Mitzi Moon, broke and jobless, finds herself the beneficiary of her grandmother’s “Last Will and Testament”. She has inherited a bookstore and a good amount of money. Mitzi sees this as the ideal time to move on and go check out that bookstore she now owns. But shortly after arriving in Pin Cherry Harbour she finds a body and becomes a suspect in a murder. So now Mitzy is determined to find the real killer and becomes a bit of an amateur detective.
The characters are entertaining. Grams who just happens to be a ghost. Mitzy, quirky and sarcastic, can see and communicate with Grams (AKA Ghost-ma). And that girl can put away the food! Sheriff Erick Harper (AKA Sheriff Too Hot to Handle). Odell, the cook at Myrtle’s Diner who keeps Mitzi fed. Twiggy, Tilly and Tally, Silas, and Robin Pyewacket Goodfellow (Pye). Pye is my favorite – a caracal cat who is obsessed with Fruity Puffs cereal. A cast of remarkable characters who help Mitzi track down the real killer.
I loved it! Made me smile and laugh. Mitzi isn’t quite used to how quickly news spreads in a small town so we experience small town life with its good and bad points.
I am looking forward to more books from Trixie Silvertale. (Don’t you just love that name!)
I will admit I wasn’t certain about this book at first. I thought Mitzy was abrasive. Okay she is but I understand it now. It took me a minute to warm up to her. She has built up a shield. Life was not easy for her. Once you realize her choices and her personality were shaped from a life of protection and a bit of fatalism, you can get past her shield. Now I’m friends with her. Not cautious friends either but fast friends. The ones you keep and protect.
Mitzy has bounced around in foster care since losing her mom. She didn’t know her dad or anyone in his family. You can imagine her shock at finding out she inherited a bookshop from the grandmother she never knew. But it was good timing so, used to adapting to where the wind blows her, she gets a bus ticket and is on her way. She finds herself in a small town. If you have ever been the outsider in a small town you know what that is like. But, below the surface, this isn’t your average small town. For one thing, instead of an old married sheriff we meet Sheriff Hottie. No explanation needed. Another thing, the grandma Mitzy never got to know is hanging around the bookshop. Mitzy can see and hear her! The guy at the diner was friendly and she has help at the bookshop. Things would be looking up if it wasn’t for the dead body and accusation of murder.
I started out wondering what the heck and ended up reading until early morning hours because I couldn’t put it down. Now I want the next book. The mystery wraps up but the backstory keeps flowing. If you wanted it could be a standalone. My advice to you would be to give this one a chance. It definitely grows on you. I ended up loving Mitzy and invested in her. I enjoyed the mystery because it kept me guessing and questioning. And tell me, who doesn’t dream of owning a bookstore?
I had so much fun reading this book! It is original and refreshing with fun characters! You just want the book to never end, so you know I’m waiting impatiently for the next!
I loved this book! This is the first book I read by this author, but can’t wait to read more! It was a fast and easy read for me. This book combines a lot of the things that draw me to a book – paranormal, books/bookstores/libraries, mystery, and some humor. I found myself rooting for the characters. Now I am anxious for the next book to see what happens with the characters.
This book was so much fun. The author quickly draws you into Mitzi’s world, and helps you fall in love with the quirky little town of Pin Cherry. The mysteries make you want to keep reading and the end leaves you wanting more.
I was given an eARC copy of Fries & Alibis to review and all opinions are my own.
When I read the description for the book I knew it would be a fun October read and I was not disappointed.
Silvertale’s main character in the book, Mitzy, was such a fun character. I loved her sassy fierceness. She left me laughing so many times. I enjoyed watching Mitzy’s character arc throughout this story as she learns more about her biological family and gets caught in the middle of a murder mystery where she suddenly finds herself a person of interest (not a suspect, just so you know).
Silvertale did a wonderful job of piecing together clues that lead us to solve the mystery, but still kept us surprised at the ending. All her character were well developed and had great backstories that I have become deeply attached to and I look forward to seeing what is in store for Mitzy and her new friends next.
Ah, Mitzy Moon how I adore you !!!!!!! Fries and Alibis is the first book in the Mitzy Moon Mystery Series and what a DEBUT it is!!!!
I absolutely love cozy paranormal mysteries and this one is not to be missed. I was pulled in from the first few pages. Mitzy is a spitfire , a broke spitfire who moves to Pin Cherry Harbor (great name).
This town is a bit like going back in history. Pin Cherry Harbor is where her late grandmother lived. Well Ghost Grandma.
The characters the author developed are well thought out and complex. Mitzy is really hilarious and a bit snarky, in the best possible way. There are two mysteries seamlessly integrated into the story. I don’t know how the author did , as it was so well written.
I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only did I find the storyline to be engaging, but I also found the characters to be so much fun.
I thought Mitzy, the MC, was awesome. I loved that she was a little damaged, but also smart, caring, resourceful, and incredibly funny. I found myself laughing out loud throughout this book. I also thought the supporting cast of characters were hilarious at well. Twiggy, Grams, and Pyewacket complimented Mitzy’s character so much and made this story even better.
The storyline itself was also interesting and kept my attention the whole time. I couldn’t read this book fast enough to find out more about the mysteries that were taking place. I am so excited to see where this series goes, and I would recommend this book for sure!
I really enjoyed this delightful, fresh take on cozy mysteries! I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I love the quirky characters, they’re likeable and just fun! The setting is unique and the kind of place that I would visit if I could.
Mitzy Moon has been on her own (or in the foster system) for a number of years, works at a dead-end job and lives in a low rent apartment. A visit from a lawyer one morning informed her she had inherited a property and money in a little town on the other side of the country. With nothing to lose, she packed up and left her life behind, and moved to Pin Cherry Harbor. She had barely set foot int he town when she was arrested for murder by a very attractive sheriff. She didn’t even know the guy. Help comes in strange forms and she must prove, not only that she didn’t do it, but find out who did.
I received an advanced copy to give an honest review.
I enjoyed the characters in this new series. Mitzi is a gem with flaws. She thinks she is an orphan but she learns that is not the case. She inherits a bookstore in a place called Pin Cherry. On her first day there is stumbles across a dead body and becomes the prime suspect, even though she has only been in town a few hours. She would not have even stumbled across said body if she was not trying to throw away what her new cat gave her.
Trouble seems to follow. She also gets a ghost and a real life father in the book.
You will need to read to find out how, who, and why this all happens. Have fun and enjoy you visit with Mitzi Moon and the other characters in Pin Cherry.
Mitzy Moon is young, an orphan, and owes everyone. One day a man shows up and gives her a bag of money and says she has inherited her grandmother’s store. Mitzy didn’t even know this grandmother. When she shows up in Pin Cherry Harbor, Michigan, she finds a little town with a great diner (thus the fries). She also finds the bookstore is amazing. Things seem on the upbeat until a body is found behind the store.
I loved this book. It’s the first in the series and I can’t wait for the next. I loved the characters and the story line.
This is a delightful, witty new cozy series with a hint of paranormal. If you like snarky humor and memorable characters, you will love Trixie Silvertale! Catch this series at the start.
Mizithra, Mitzy, Moon is and orphan. She works in a coffee shop, when she hasn’t partied too hard to show up. The rent is late; her bills aren’t paid, and she can’t remember exactly what she did at the bachelorette party last night!
Then her life changes in an incredible moment. The grandmother she never knew, from the father she never met, has passed away. Incredibly for this young woman who grew up in the foster system, she now has money and a new place to go.
The town of Pin Cherry Harbor, sitting beside a great lake is like nothing Mitzy has experienced before. She has inherited a used bookstore complete with an employee, Twiggy, a friend of her grandmother’s and an apartment upstairs through a hidden bookcase door. Even more surprising, the ghost of her grandmother is still in residence.
Mitzy’s first welcome is far from warm. First the much too attractive sheriff tries to run her out of town as a vagrant when all she wants is a meal from Myrtle’s Diner. Then Pyewacket, her grandmother’s Caracal, brings a hunting trophy to the back door of the bookstore which results in Mitzy being arrested for murder and she hasn’t even been in town a whole day.
The sheriff doesn’t seem to be looking for any other suspects. Mitzy will have to solve the crime herself if she wants to stay out of Jail! Can this stranger to Pin Cherry Harbor ferret out the culprit?
I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wasn’t quite convinced with our heroine, Mitzy Moon, when I first began reading Fries and Alibis. However, my opinion quickly changed after the first few pages.
Mitzy finds herself in Pin Cherry Harbour after inheriting a bookstore and more money than she’s ever imagined being in possession of. After quite a tricky start involving arrest for murder, literally falling for the handsome sheriff and having to come to terms with the fact that she can converse with her dead grandmother, life slowly takes on a new and exciting roll for her.
The author, Trixie Silvertale, pulls us into Mitzy’s world with its hilarious characters, a dash of burgeoning romance and lots of mystery and sleuthing,
This book made me laugh out loud on quite a few occasions with its snark and one liners. I highly recommend this new series, you won’t be disappointed.
I have recently listened to the audio version. Colleen Marlo really brings the characters to life with different voices. It is very well narrated. I can’t wait to listen to the next installment.
I really loved this book. It is a paranormal cozy mystery that hooks you in on the first page. The characters are well written and easy to like. The idea of an orphan inheriting her grandma’s bookstore was fresh and kept me interested from page one to the end. I read it all in one sitting and it left wanting to make sure I read the next in the series. I highly recommend this book
Overall rating: 5
This comical who dun it made the pages fly by! This author did a perfect job of bringing Mitzi to life quickly and before I knew it I found myself transported to Pin Cherry Harbor with an undying urge to eat at the diner. A perfect book one that has me craving more about Mitzi, Pye, Grams, and more secrets awaiting to be discovered. Truly would love to visit a bookstore like the Bell, Book, and Candle. All my reviews are always voluntarily written .
Delightful! Very enjoyable! Definitely didn’t want to put it down once I started to read it. Loved the characters and their interactions. Intense in spots. Loved the humour. Deputy Paulsen really needs to get laid!
When you inherit a bookshop in “almost-Canada” . . .
There’s nothing to stop you from deciding to “venture off to great lakes and mysterious harbors.”
When I met Mizithra Achelois Moon in the first few pages of this new series, I wasn’t sure I’d warm up to her. Before the end of the chapter, however, I’d definitely changed my mind about Mitzy.
Just hours after arriving to claim her inheritance, Mitzy finds herself arrested for the murder of a stranger she soon learns was her grandfather! Enter the mysterious Silas, the almost fatherly Odell, and the mischievous caracal called Pyewacket. As unlikely a set of sleuth’s assistants as you’d ever want to meet; soon to be joined by the otherworldly presence of Mitzy’s Grams. What they uncover as they dig deep into both the current murder and a seemingly related one from years ago will keep you turning pages and falling head over heels for Silvertale’s characters and the small sleepy town of Pin Cherry Harbour.
“You are the most irritating mammal in the universe, Pyewacket. And I think I love you.” I think I do as well. I wonder if my dachshund would welcome a caracal fur-sibling?
Grab this one as soon as you can; I can promise you an exciting read. And like me, you’ll be wanting to move to Pin Cherry just so you can eat at Myrtle’s and hear all the gossip!

Fries and Alibis is the first book in the hilarious paranormal cozy mystery series, Mitzy Moon Mysteries. If you like amateur sleuths, small town intrigue, and a dash of the supernatural, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s twisty whodunit.
You’ll fall in love with all the characters from the story and you feel you known the them all along. In a small town 400 hundred mile north of everywhere, you’ll wonder do they even have cell towers that north.
I started reading the story and could not put it down until ran out of power in my kindle, scrambled to find my charger and finish the book. That is something I haven’t done in a long time, reading a book in one setting. I am betting you will do the same. I am so looking forward to the next book.
