Just finished the first book in a new series by Trixie Silvertale. Absolutely loved this book. It had me hooked from the beginning. Mitzy was great, smart and funny. One of the best paranormal cozy I’ve read. Definitely going to read more books from this series..
I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. When Misty Moon inherited a bookstore from the Grandmother she never knew she had know idea what was in store for her. I enjoyed this audiobook and can’t wait to find out what is next for Misty and the gang.
An intriguing new series with a main character that goes from destitute orphan to millionaire to murder suspect! Snarky dialogue that is often witty and humorous makes for an entertaining listen on audiobook. A cast of sidekicks that are equal parts persnickety and lovable including a ghost grandmother makes the plot intriguing and enjoyable. I’m definitely curious to see where the series goes next with these characters.
At first I didn’t think I would like this book because Mitzy’s speech and lifestyle are not to my liking, but she definitely grew on me. I liked the characters that became close to her and the mystery itself became interesting. I will read the next book.
I loved the characters. Certainly an enjoyable read!
.
I liked it. I got the next in the series.
Fun read. Will get more by author!
I don’t like writing about characters/plots but rather how I feel about the book as a whole. I totally loved Mitzi and her new situation and have read every book in the series and hope it continues for many more.
Mitzy wakes up with a doozy of a hangover. After foster care, her life pretty much consists of parties, regrets and overdue bills. At least she’s still dressed when someone comes knocking on her door. An old man she’s never met is standing there asking for her by her whole name. She’s a bit freaked out by what he has to say and the envelope he gives her. She ends up being late for work and quits shortly after getting there. She’s taking that envelope and moving to a new town. After spending several days on a bus, she really needs a shower, but food comes first. She doesn’t get a very good reception from the people in the diner. They assume she’s a vagrant and call the Sheriff! As if that wasn’t bad enough, the next day she’s accused of murder. Good thing Mitzy has a backbone and doesn’t give up. She’s in for a lot of surprises and life definitely gets better. This is a very good book with mysteries, laughs, great characters and a whacky cat. My favorite kind of paranormal cozy.
I absolutely loved this first book in the Mitzy Moon mystery series by Trixie Silvertale with its quirky characters and paranormal aspect all tossed together to make a most entertaining, enjoyable and often hilarious cozy mystery story. While the subject matter may be dark and sometimes on the grisly side, the writing is lighthearted and more often than not, wickedly funny and delightful. Her main characters interact with both the living and dead people to help solve the murder mystery. It was also a super tight story that entrapped the reader from the first page to the last, and with a promise of many more adventures to come in future books in the series. This is a voluntary review of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
Enjoyable read
Mitzy is a corky character that is likeable. She is smart but reacts before she thinks. Her partners in this series are her dead grandma and a cat that grandma left her along with the inheritance. Oh, and she also gets grandma’s best friend. This story is fast paced and fun. There is several murders that must be solved and Mitzy does that with the help of her grandma’s ghost.
The characters are well developed, have depth, and grow. Each is an individual. The story flowed well and was enjoyable.
If you like books about magic with ghosts, fun characters and of course some great felines, then you should enjoy this book. I look forward to reading book 2 to see what Mitzy, her Granma’s ghost, and Pyewacket get up to next.
Ok I’m bitten, this is an interesting addition to the paranormal cosy genre, so far so good and I look forward to reading more on Mitzy (Mizithra) Moon, her inherited bookshop which comes complete with her never met until death Grandma Isadora (or more affectionately Ghost-Ma) and what inheritance from a never known never-met Grandmother would be complete without the caracal Pyewacket (where my the affections lie)
Mitzy’s life is going down fast, she’s 3 months behind in her rent, and in a thankless job which she hates, an orphan, her mum died when she was 11 and having never known her father she has grown up in foster care where he has learnt many useful tools for life, including wearing a mask so no-one can see the real emotions, just the snarky sassy Mitzy she allows them to see. (And boy is she snarky!)
At her lowest, after a night out she would rather forget though to be fair the alcohol has kind of helped her to not remember all the dirty drunken details. A knock at the door sees her the recipient of an envelope with cash, a strange key and the deeds to a bookshop and apartment in a small town Cherry Pin Harbor on the Great Lakes. Willed to her by her paternal Grandmother a family she never met nor new existed. With nothing to lose she makes her way there, In her first morning in town she falls on the Sheriff and finds a dead body (not at the same time). With the Town’s police force seemingly looking for the easy patsy (her) Mitzy begins to investigate herself, shenanigans ensue!
This is written in first person, from Mitzy’s point of view and her brain is a REALLY interesting place to be.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a breath of fresh air I highly recommend it if you enjoy your murder with a side of snark and fries don’t forget the fries!!!
Fries and Alibis is a fun an entertaining romp of a read. I listened to the audio ARC and the narration, done by Colleen Marlo, was wonderful.
Mitzy Moon, party girl/barista/orphan, finds out she’s not as much of an orphan as she thought. With a sizable inheritance of both cash and property, Mitzy is able to leave her dead-end barista job to take over the bookstore her recently departed grandmother left. Now, the bookshop holds all kinds of wonderful things… including the ghost of her dead grandmother. Soon after her arrival, the newly murdered body of her grandfather (and one of her grandmother’s ex-husbands) is found in the alley behind the shop. As the newcomer in town, Mitzy is under suspicion. Mitzy and her grandmother, affectionately referred to as Ghostma, team up to solve not one, but two murders.
I initially was afraid I wasn’t going to like Mitzy too much. She started out sassy (which I appreciate) but also a bit of a brat. As her backstory developed, she grew on me. I do have some trouble with how quickly she went from zero to hero with her dad. His explanation of events was good but it seems that those foster kid walls she built up came tumbling down awfully fast. The plot itself was okay, definitely entertaining and fun. I do feel that the overall resolution of the murders was lacking. It was a reasonable solution and loose ends were tied but it felt “off” and I’m not entirely sure why.
Where this book shines is in its cast of quirky characters (animal, human, living, and dead), the touch of romance and the sprinkling hint of what is to come. I am looking forward to reading more of the series.
I received a free ARC audio book in exchange for review.
This book is ok.I would have liked it a lot more if the main character wasn’t constantly gushing over the local sheriff. serioisly, it takes away from the book.
Couldn’t get very far in this book. The plot and character development is unrealistic. Not for me.
