Christian Historical Romance set in World War 2
In 1943, widowed seamstress Heidi Wetzel finds new meaning in life by caring for evacuated children on a rural farm in war-torn western Germany. Never a supporter of National Socialism, she takes pleasure in passive resistance, but must exercise caution around neighbors who delight in reporting to the Gestapo.
Flying cadet Paul Braedel’s wife dies … Gestapo.
Flying cadet Paul Braedel’s wife dies while he trains for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following bereavement leave, he returns to B-17 “Flying Fortress” Bomber navigator training but he’s lost his zest for life and heads to England, not caring if he lives or dies. When he and his crew are shot down over Germany, he evades capture and, for the first time since Rachel’s death, hears the voice of God whisper guidance: “Find Heidi.”
When Heidi stumbles into a man she recognizes, she is shocked to realize he is a friend from her high school days in the United States, and the husband of her best friend Rachel. Aiding an enemy downed airman is punishable by execution, but she agrees to help.
Then they’re betrayed.
A war-time adventure with romantic second chances.

Excellent book! You’ll love this book! Wonderful Author!
Enjoyed this historical fiction takes place in World War 11. the main characters are Heidi a German Widow and Paul an American Air Force Navigator and how their lives intersect in many interesting ways. This story describes the bombing raids over Germany and how these bombings effected the German people leaving may orphaned children. It also tells about the risks undertaken by the German and French resistance. This is a very suspenseful story with well developed characters and a faith written story. Recommend this book and author.
I loved this book! The story kept me riveted to all the details, and I could hardly wait for the ending!!!
i could not get into it….only read a few chapters.

Great history on what ww2 was like in Germany and the American pilots that were doing the bombing.
Great author!
A wonderful historical fiction book.
My father was a B-17 bomber pilot in WWII, so I loved reading about what life was like for these young men who fought for us. The author seems to have done her research, and provided many details about life on their bases in England, what it was like on various bombing missions to Germany, and what they faced if they were shot down. It was also interesting to read about Germans who did not like the Nazi Regime, and what life was like for them. In the midst of all the hardships of the war, this book had a glimmer of romance that kept me reading.
This is an exciting and suspense filled story with great characters and plot. The story reveals less known experiences that people had during World War II.
enjoyed the history and plot
A down-to-earth view of faith struggling to conquer even during the most gruelling times.
A great historical read about families during World War II. The author’s own background helped to make this story more realistic. So many families made many sacrifices to help others during the war, sometimes risking their own lives.
This was a beautiful novel. I will definitely read more by this author.
This book which takes place during World War II. I couldn’t put it down and I was entranced by the plot and intrigued by the characters.
This is now one of my favorite authors. The story never bogged down with repetitiveness and predictably. Even through the epilogue!
A gripping tale of love and loss during WWIi. Beautifully told from both German and American perspective. Held my attention and made me a fan of another new to me author. I love stories that become real to me, make me care about and want to know such people. Also I love happy endings and seeing Christ in the actions of the lead characters
Will definitely read more from her.
I like to read about WWII and the strong people who kept believing in the goodness and faithfulness of God even when the world seemed to be falling apart.
Had my attention from cover to cover.
Friends and Enemies seemed like it would be a mildly interesting book about WWII, but it turned out to be a much more interesting story than I expected. I couldn’t put it down. The contrasts between life in America and in Germany remind us of why the Allies won.
