I have always had a slow cooker since I first got married 34 years ago. Over the years I have pulled it out to use on occasion. But I’ll admit, I don’t use it as often as I should or could. In going through all my gadgets and appliances, I decided that I needed to start using them more often. So was extremely excited to get a chance to look over this new cookbook, Fresh Flavors for the Slow Cooker by Nicki Sizemore.
First I have to say this book has gorgeous photos! They say you eat with your eyes first, and with this cookbook, you’ll get your fill. Lots of variety in the recipes & I have many marked to try. I’m especially looking forward to trying the fish recipes in the slow cooker. I haven’t really seen a lot of seafood recipes in slow cooker cookbooks, but the photos looked delicious and can’t wait to try them out! Fish Tacos with Sriracha Mayo with Lime & Cilantro Slaw, Moroccan Braised Halibut with Mint & Pistachio Pesto & Easy Bouillabaisse with Garlic Aioli Croutons are just a few recipes I’m planning on trying in the near future! Recipes also have “Slow Cooker Jump Starts” to help you get ahead of the game by prepping in advance, which is always helpful. This is definitely a cookbook I look forward to using.
I really enjoyed finding new and fun recipes in this book. There were many that were completely new to me and some that were nice flavorful twists to My own tried and trues.
This is one of those cookbooks that belongs in any home that uses a slow cooker. The recipes were easy to follow, delicious and varied enough that one would turn to it again and again.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author Nicki Sizemore, and the publisher Storey Publishing for a free ARC which allowed me to read and honestly review this book. I definitely recommend this one.
As someone that only uses their crockpot occasionally I was intrigued by this cookbook and hoped it would inspire me to use it much more often. I really liked this cookbook. It delivered a array of recipes for many different occasions. There are many tips, tricks and short cuts offered which I found to be very helpful and informative. The book feature beautiful photos that had plenty of visual appeal. I really liked that these recipes used so many fresh ingredients as so many of the other recipes that I have come across rely heavily on canned/processed foods. My favorite recipes so far have been the Thai Curried Chicken, the french toast casserole and the sweet potato potage.
These are NOT your mother’s crock pot recipes! I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this book and trying the recipes! My family’s all-time favorite recipe in this book is Thai Curried Chicken and Rice Noodles. I have made it at least 4 times since I received this book. I’ve also enjoyed most of the breakfast recipes, especially the Overnight Pumpkin-Brown Rice Pudding. There are few things better than waking up to a satisfying hot breakfast and it definitely fits that bill! These are only two of the many recipes I tried from the book, all were tasty and eye-appealing. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone!
