He was my first love… went on I only missed him more.
She was my best friend… the only woman I ever loved.
When I ran off to join the Army, I left behind everything I had ever loved. I thought I was doing the right thing, but my good intentions quickly turned into my biggest regret.
Every year on the anniversary of Shane’s death I watched as Lillian Nelson visited Shane’s grave and spilled her secrets to a dead man. Each year I hoped she wouldn’t be back, that her heart would finally heal and she would move on. But year after year she was back. So many times I wanted to reach out and comfort the beautiful woman, but I knew she would never forgive me. It was my fault Shane was dead.
Until… A terrorist shows up looking for revenge.
I had to come out of the shadows and protect the one woman I had no business falling in love with.

Free is an emotionally packed ride! Riley Edwards takes your heart to soaring heights and beyond devastating lows only to bring it back up again in the most unexpected of ways.
Free is the story of two best friends who dream of a life different than the limelight in which they grew up in. Shane finds freedom in the Army, leaving Lily adrift in a lonely sea of emotions. Tragedy strikes soon after Shane finishes basic and Lily is devastated. Her heart longs for the boy she loved, but never told – fearing she’d lose his friendship in the end. Fate, in the form of an old enemy, draws Shane out of the shadows and into Lily’s glittering world once again when Lily’s life is put in danger. But all that glitters isn’t gold, is it?
Shane has died to himself for his country and taken on a new identity as Carter Lenox, leaving everything and everyone behind – except Lily. He watches over her each year as she visits his grave and listens to her stories for hours, exposing all her secrets and revealing all her raw emotions to a lifeless headstone. Only when her life is endanger, does Shane enter back into her world and the loving arms of Lily. Can Lily love the man Shane has become? Can she forgive him and move past the pain of his deceit? And when Lily keeps a secret of her own, will he be able to forgive her? These two dance a well choreographed, hard tango of fierce love held close and pushed away to keep the other safe. Shane must decide if Lily is safest in his arms or miles away from him forever. Is there a future for Lily and Shane?
So much heartbreaking emotion and a huge dose of testosterone!!!
I LOVED reading about Shane (Lenox) and Lillian! These two were just meant to be together. Someone (*cough cough* you know it was the man) just messed up BIG twice, thinking he was doing what was best for her. The reunion for these two was beautiful. To make it even better there was the action (yep people died) and the camaraderie of brotherhood in his team mates. Those guys bring a little laughter and aren’t afraid to tell him when he is so wrong. Luckily, while Lily is Shane’s woman, she has them all in her corner and can handle the T-overload
I am a long time fan of military romance and I am always on the lookout for new authors. I am so glad that I stumbled upon Riley Edwards. Free really hit the mark for me! Lily Nelson is a lonely, wealthy divorcee. She may have beauty and wealth but she has never gotten over the loss of her best friend Shane Owings. He was KIA serving in the Army 12 years ago and she has set up a charitable organization in his memory but she is still devastated by his loss and their love that never came to be. She visits his grave annually but she is emotionally unable to move on. What would happen if she knew that Shane was not KIA but working undercover Ops and is now Carter Lenox? Lenox only ever loved one person and that was Lily. He felt that the best way to protect her was to leave her but now both their lives are colliding and if they are brave enough and strong enough they might have a second chance to have the life that they should have. Free is told from dual POV and has action, heat and some angst. I loved reading it and I cannot wait to read more in the series.
I loved this book and I totally recommend this you will not be disappointed. If you love second chances you will love this
Loved it! It had everything! I laughed, cried, cheered and really enjoyed this book. Totally fell in love with this group of Soldiers and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
This military romance, broke my heart and repaired again.
…not only emotional, it also had action, suspense and heat !
This book from page one until the end, kept me turning the pages…
Shane and Lilly’s story had me riveted! I enjoyed it very much and will read the rest if the series.
I’m going to stay this book was hard to keep straight. There was no name headers when the POV changed and that would throw me off on every chapter. Lots of time jumping in the start and not being able to keep straight. it was kinda part of the mystery, but it got sooo hard to enjoy the book because of it.
That being said, I really did enjoy the story. It kept me intrigued even when I was confused and I found that I couldn’t put it down. I can’t really go into too much detail because it would take away from the boom factor, even if it was kinda predictable. I plan on reading Jaspers book. The author has taken a great group of men and has me intrigued with them all getting a happy ending. I really like Jasper and his fun and flirty nature but deep down you feel he has pain. 4 Stars #2OCCJD
This is one of those books that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster.
At first i wasn’t such a big fan of Lilly’s, but as the story progressed I grew to love her spunk. Sure she was a pushover in the beginning, following what her family dictated, but as she grew, you understood she needed to go through that to grow into the determined woman she became.
As for Shane..well he made a decision that had him leave his family behind, but created a new one with the guys in the unit.
A great read, especially if an alpha man rings your bell.
Riley Edwards is not a new author to me. I absolutely love all her work. Free has lefr me with a shredded heart and hope for second chances. Made me ugly cry ar times. Absolutely wonderful book.
