Meet Dr Tom Ares. He’s a hot military doctor with a firm hand, a wicked heart, and all the natural dominance needed to tame his wild heroine.
Electra
I was designed for two things: to please men, and to kill them.
Now they say I’m too feral. Too much of a freak.
Only Doctor Ares thinks I can be saved.
He knows how to handle me when I’m out of control. He knows how to soothe me when I’m hurt. He … when I’m hurt. He knows how to discipline me when I disobey, and he’s going to teach me how to love.
But the world I come from is harsh, and cruel, and the powers that made me want to see me more than tamed. They want me completely broken.
He swore to do no harm. He might not have a choice.
FREAK is a standalone dark romance.

Being a Loki Renard fan, I know to expect the unexpected when it comes to her books but this one confused me a bit at the beginning. Then it picked up and then confusion turned into curiosity, then led to intrigue. Secrets, lies, intimidation, and intrigue all came into play while I tried to put the pieces together as Doctor Ares and Electra are brought together. A military installment run by a woman who is only known as “The Head”. And the ending to this one? I was pole-axed! Who saw that coming? I certainly didn’t! Now I find out there is another book to this tale so you know I have to start reading it! Congratulations Loki, I’m hooked.
Freak is a dark medical romance by Loki Renard. The two main characters from her previous book, Scar, make a few appearances but this book can be read as a standalone. Electrahas spent her entire life in captivity, only learning to kill oe seduce for her spying. She was created in a lab, and since everyone treats her like an animal, she retains the manners of one. Doctor Tom Ares only works where he does to keep an eye on his brother, and is shocked when he realizes he is assigned to training Electra. This book was very good, any adult romance fan will love it.

That was/is a freaky fantastic read – only dark in ways that are scratching at our consciousness and demand an evaluation that we, following the story, do not want to give easily.
The arrangement of the extremes in the characters is well chosen and sensitively composed.
Captivating, interesting, unbelievable and fascinating with a good shot of romance, a lot of manipulation and the trust in love – a book that really entertains on so many levels – Thank you Mrs. Renard, it was a pleasure, again.
I liked the story’s concept. Very original. The only problems I had with the story deal with the passage of time. The first instance when time supposedly skips forward happens in the middle of a scene. Like, the scene is set and she’s doing and saying things and in the middle of her internal dialogue she says something like over the last two weeks and I was like, Huh? Otherwise, really original story.
This is a sequel to “Scar” – you do not have to read this first, but I feel it helps to understand the background. This book features Tom (brother to Ken from the previous book) and Electra who is a the freak, resulting from a genetic experiment and raised with the sole purpose of killing people. Unsurprisingly she has very little humanity and Dr Tom is tasked with rehabilitating her. This is not “dark” as such and to say it is a medical romance is a misnomer – aspects of domestic discipline is a more accurate description. The characters are strong and have chemistry but I did find it a little slow and wasn’t totally satisfied with the ending.

I really liked Electra and Tom’s story. I actually was a bit surprised by this book as it was not quite what I had expected but it was the best kind of surprise. This story easily grabbed and held all of my attention. It was intense, suspenseful, dramatic and steamy. I found it impossible not to feel for Electra and I was so happy that Tom entered her life. I liked both characters and I thought their chemistry sizzled. There is some darkness here but frankly I felt it was on the milder side of the spectrum, which I found vastly appealing because sometimes too much is just that too much. This is my forthright review that I am freely choosing to post.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this book exceeded whatever it was. Tom and Electra’s story was steamy and certainly dark, but in a totally unexpected way. My heart broke for Electra, what she missed in life, all she’s endured, everything. She’s so damaged, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, Dr.Tom. He just wants to help her, heal her, love her. I loved this book, all the characters had great depth, are compelling, and the storyline truly unique. This is a great read and fortunately it’s free with your KU subscription. Great Read.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I was excited to read another story set in the world as ‘Scar’. We even get glimpses of Mary and Ken in those book. But this is about Ken’s brother, Tom and the freak known as Electra. It’s a hot and steamy book that sets the right combination domination and suspenseful fun. I enjoyed the action and twists and the firecracker of a female character that is Electra.

This book is a stand alone, but if you want to know a little more about Ken, Mary and Tom, please read Scar. It is in KU. Electra was created and raised in a lab. She has no idea how to be a person. At the facility where she is held, Tom is a doctor. He is captivated by her and treats her kindly, which no one has done before. Tom is made her handler and he starts the process of teaching her control. While they are together, they start a physical relationship that is love for Tom, but he isn’t sure that Electra even understands love. These books by Loki Renard are so intense. It is always so captivating. I always finish reading in one sitting. I will warn you that this is a dark and violent book. I was so excited to read this story. I feel like I have waited a long time for this one. It is absolutely phenomenal learning more about Tom. And Electra is so exciting. I just loved her. Another fabulous tale that is well written and so engaging that I could not put it down. A perfect read during this time of social distancing. It will take you to a whole other world.
I love Loki’s books and Freak was fantastic.
Tom is a medical doctor on a base and he meets Electra, a cute little petite woman. The attraction is instant when he thinks she is behaving like a brat.
This story has twists and turns that keep the reader captivated!
Utterly thrilling and mind-blowing!
WOW! This is one thrilling and completely mind-blowing story from beginning to end. It has edge of your seat intensity and a dark and twisted storyline. This is one rollercoaster ride of epic proportions!
Electra is extremely witty and a complete badass. She’s intense and has moments of utter rage and hatred towards others but you can’t help but be totally captivated by her. She is the ultimate killing machine that no one seems to be able to control. In comes the sexy, alpha Dr. Tom, who thinks he knows just what she needs to calm her rage and give her the discipline she needs. These two together had me laughing out loud and falling head over heels for them. They are the perfect combination of wits, sexiness and strength!
This story is fantastic and very unique. It’s highly entertaining and thrilling to read! I absolutely loved everything about it.
This story wasn’t what I was expecting, in all the best ways. The story line is amazing, the characters are interesting, and the steam level is scalding. I have a thing for unstable, unpredictable female characters, and Electra, AKA Freak, is just that. She’s not 100% human and her experiences have led her to have a different outlook on the world. She is used to pain and being used. She isn’t used to someone caring about her in any way. Tom is a doctor who has the joy of being the one who examines Electra after her latest injuries, but he isn’t like any doctor Electra has dealt with before. That’s all I’m going to say about the plot because it’s much more enjoyable to have the story unfold without knowing anything.
This story has a lot of interesting elements and twists that were surprising. It will suck you in and keep you glued to the pages from beginning to end. It’s a slightly dark story, and there are elements of D/s, but I wouldn’t say there are any triggers. It’s more suspenseful and intense than actually dark, and the slightly unhinged personality of Electra keeps things fun. She reminds me of the character Harley Quinn in some ways, and I found that very indearing. I could seriously read a 20 book series based on her and never get tired of her. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have Tom. He’s more level headed and calm, and his personality is the perfect balance of Electra’s. The interactions between the two of them, especially when Electra is in full on crazy mode, are some of my favorite scenes in the story.
I highly recommend this book!
I absolutely love this author’s writing, from her well developed characters to her intriguing, suspenseful and sexy storylines. My heart broke for Electra at times. She is forced to grow up in a sterile environment with minimal human contact. She is conditioned into an emotionless killing machine. Dr. Tom is tasked with the job of humanizing Electra but while he is completing the job he falls in love with her. Will he be successful in this task? Will Electra be resistant to learning new things and attack Tom? Overall this is a thrilling story it kept me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns. I look forward to reading more about this author!
She’s the government’s top secret project.
Loki Renard has done it again. Her fertile mind has written another tale about the good guys winning. Sometimes you just want to cry for the characters in this book. Electra and Tom need each other! She is broken and he is gallant. And I hope Head gets squashed. This book is not for the faint of heart. It’s cruel, good, sad and happy with a side of love.
Freaking awesome!!
Electra needs a strong hand, but also someone who cares and has empathy, and that is Tom. But there are forces at play, manipulative, vindictive, violent, twisted and malevolent. Can the heat, lust and chemistry between Electra and Tom form a bond to carry them thru it all? What will you do for love and what will you give?
Dark and twisted, with fantastic characters and a gripping well written storyline and a couple of great twists and turns.
Loki Renard has done it again this was a twisting, turning, totally engrossing book that keep you reading from the moment you start till you finished, knowing you just can not put this down such a delishly dark read. When Tom first meets Elektra, he can’t figure out why they call her “freak” and treat her the way they do, maybe that’s why Elektra can’t treat Tom the way she does everyone of her other handlers by pounding them into the ground. So when Tom begins to train Elektra trying to “humanize” her for the Head, it begins a journey to what being a woman really is.
Electra is a scientifically designed and raised woman imbued with incredible strength and intelligence in order to conduct and win murderous missions. She is angry, and combative. Her body is excessively well-trained and exceedingly strong.
Tom Ares is the first doctor who tries to help and heal her without causing her undo pain and harm. Electra is intrigued by his stern, calm manner. She is a body full of physical dominance and overpowering rage. Yet, she knows nothing about “normal” humanity such as cooking, cleaning and reading.
Watching the interaction between a caring doctor and an almost primitive young woman is fascinating. Will Tom be able to help her learn new ideas and behaviors without her erupting into explosive anger? Will she be able to accept instruction given in a constructive manner? Why should she? Will she attack the doctor? Will she be able to handle his domestic discipline? Will she want to?
To me this is an exciting, fascinating story that kept me on my toes and constantly guessing which way the characters will react to myriad situations. Ms. Renard’s words were captivating and enthralling right to the end.
My god this book was exciting I could not put it down it’s that good. I loved Electra her fight, she’s a weapon to kill and destroy but theres so much more to her it almost breaks your heart and then Tom steps in and he becomes her savior and is super yummy with the patients of a Saint.
I really loved the interaction with these to and Electra made it so much fun testing Tom at every corner with some laughable moments and the emotion she craved just to be a little bit human was beautiful.
I enjoyed the story but parts of it are sad when it relates to how unknowing Electra is about the real world. She has grown up in a sterile environment with no normal human contact. All contact had been to turn her into a killing machine with no feelings. But things are not what they appear go be on the surface. Dr. Tom Ares is given the job of humanizing Electra and in the process falls in love with her. The head of the facility, that keeps Electra under lockdown, has her own secrets that are revealed at the end. In the early part of the story there is a lot of violence but that tapers off as the story goes along. The story is well written and full of suspense. I enjoyed it and would recommend it as a great read but it is somewhat on the dark side.
