Daniella Marquardt has one stop to make before she can flee the state with her newborn niece—a baby with a price tag on her life and no one to protect her. Along with money and hope, time is something Daniella doesn’t have a lot of. Still, she needs to find the last man to see her sister alive. To thank him.Trent Kane doesn’t know what to make of the woman standing in his office preparing to go … preparing to go face certain death armed only with a plan that has no chance in hell of working. When he learns her connection to the infant he recently saved, the solution is simple; she’s getting his help, whether she wants it or not.
As far as Daniella’s concerned, trusting this bossy, hardened, brutally protective stranger is never going to happen. He may be the big, bad Chief Operating Officer of a private military firm with unlimited resources, but he’s also the coldest—albeit, intensely compelling—man she’s ever met.
The way Trent sees it, this woman effectively turning his life upside down is a risk to herself, and him as well. Despite everything, she still believes in love, which tells him she has no place in his world. Precisely why he needs to ignore their dangerous chemistry and quit being so damn attracted to her.
But, as hell begins to rain down all around them, one thing becomes evident very quickly.
They’re both going to fail at their well-laid plans.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed reading Trent and Daniella’s story. It was interesting, and exciting, and sexy. The steamy parts were incredible (Imagine ‘incredible’ with boldface, italics, and underlined, please. Thank you.) There was one point where I was shaking my head at Daniella, and wondering how she could be so gullible. But that’s the way it is, isn’t it, when an author writes a really good story and you forget that these characters are fictional?
Perfection! I enjoyed everything thing about the book. It was intriguing from the first word until the last word. Don’t let the burb dis sway you from reading this book. It wasn’t a dark or disturbing book. At the heart of it was a love story. It was a wonderful ending to a fantastic series but I’m so hoping that it’s not the end. I need to have Reed, Collin, and Vivian’s story told with their own happily ever after. Christa is a magnificent storyteller and I love her books. If this is your first Christa Wick book I have no doubt that you will read more.
This was a good addition to the series.
I enjoyed this book. There is lots of tension, danger, heat and excitement in Daniella and Trent’s story. I did wish that the emotional connection between these two had been deeper and more consistent. I myself felt that it flickered off and on like a lightbulb getting ready to blow. Maybe this was due simply to the occurrences in the story, but I felt it had more to do with how little they ever really learned about each other. Really, neither one of these characters is delved into very deeply. I thought this was disappointing because from what you do learn about them I think they both had interesting and emotional backstories to tell. However, I did think their chemistry was good and they did generate plenty of sparks and steam. Plus, even with that lack of emotional connection, there were a couple of very sweet moments that happen over the evolution of this couple’s relationship that brighten up the book and make you happy that they found one another and got that HEA.
This was another solid offering from this series. I think it was the strongest one from a story line point of view. Dani wants to thank the man who saved her sister’s baby. Trent is a closed off robot if a man who has seen too much and lived to tell the story. There is insta-love between them but neither will tell the other. Dani gets into a situation that requires Trent and his associates to help. The story is quick and fast paced with lots of action. I enjoyed reading it!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book!
When Trent saves a baby while it’s being born he doesn’t expect for the aunt to come to his office and thank him. Danielle gains custody of her niece when her half sister dies and along with Christine she inherits her dead sister’s problems which endanger her and Christine’s life. When Trent finds out what is going on he offers her protection which includes her staying in his space. When she is taken along with Christine, he will stop at nothing to save her.
A good read with some steam, suspense and danger. The story flowed nicely but I would have liked more depth to the characters especially near the end after all that happened. Trent was cold and stiff throughout most of the read and when he sees her after a month, I was hoping for more between them in ways of a conversation, sharing what they were thinking and feeling more in depth. I did love the epilogue which was in contrast to who we know Trent is and it had me chucking out loud and leaving a smile on my face.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Trent is somewhat overbearing in his protectiveness of Daniella. She is very head-strong and has trouble trusting him. The bad men trying to steal her niece sway her into trusting Trent. Christa Wick has written another gripping page-turner. I never want to stop reading her books once I start reading them. I received a free copy of this book, but am leaving an honest review.
Gosh, love the action and mystery and the over-protectiveness that Trent develops for Daniella. Even if he tries to fight his attraction to her, he can’t help but want to help her. They both have things to get through but their connection is undeniable and once they crash, it’s explosive.

I really enjoyed this story!
It had an entertaining storyline and wonderful characters! It was filled with action, drama, danger, suspense along with great chemistry steamy sexy times. I loved Trent, Daniella and baby Cristina! They made a perfect family! It was wonderful having Reed and Mikhael from the first two books in this series. I loved this story and the whole series!
Trent and Dani take on the fight of their lives!
I can’t remember ever watching a man fight so hard against a love that is stronger than he is. Saving a dying woman’s baby was supposed to be a simple rescue that he could easily walk away from, but when the baby’s aunt shows up to thank him – and ask for his help in keeping the baby safe from the ruthless thugs her sister had been involved with – Trent finds that nothing is simple, and there’s no way he can walk away now.
Dani quickly recognizes that she’s in over her head in trying to keep her newborn niece safe, but she’s not going to quietly sit by while Trent rearranges her entire life and mounts an operation to eliminate the gang that is threatening her and her niece. I loved the way Dani was described; a tough young lady who’s had more than her share of hard knocks but she’s still determined to rise above it all and make a good life for herself and the baby. All of this author’s books have female leads that are curvy, but I especially loved the way she described Dani’s figure:
“Daniella Marquardt had an hourglass figure with a couple of hours added on.”
Trent is a troubled man, determined not to have any close connection with a woman so as to minimize the risk to his heart and to his well-ordered life. But his attraction to Dani blows all his plans out of the water, and no one is more distressed by this than Trent. His inner turmoil was exquisitely detailed, expertly paced, and explosively abandoned when he could no longer deny that he and Dani were meant to be. The highs and lows throughout this book make for quite a roller-coaster story, and I loved every bit of it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
